      Humble and simple. Perfect description. I don't follow travellers on TH-cam. To me it's just money making.
      With Gabe it seems a bit different and the videos are so original, chilled, pure, not "perfect or how you said it" humble and simple" and that's the reason I love these videos. Especially of the not touristy places on Greece where I also go since years and fell in love with.

    Next time you go to Halkidiki 4 very important sites historically
    1 stageira the birthplace and town of Aristotle, which Phillip destroyed but then remade when Aristotle was tutor of Alexander 2. Potidea canal that Persians made when invading Greece to have ships pass through for their invasion, with canal still exists 3. Petralona cave , very important the place where most ancient human species outside Africa has been found in the world or maybe simultaneous with most ancient African sites findings 4. Mount Athos, which although religious monasteries, is the living relic of Byzantine empire .

    You, as a man, CAN visit Mt. Athos Gabriel. You don't have to be a monk. I think you just need to get a permit at the town of Ouranoupoli, right before the entrance of the autonomous state of Mt Arhos' monasteries ( also called the garden of Panagia = Virgin Mary ). Many lay men visit the monasteries every year. I think 100 orthodox men and 10 non orthodox are allowed daily. They can stay for 3 days and sleep at the monasteries. Unfortunately, it is only women who are not allowed. It is ironic because in ancient times, before Christianity, Athos was supposedly a sanctuary dedicated to goddess Artemis and it is rumored that back then only women were allowed ! As for Alexander the Great, you can also visit the archaelogical site of DION (religious center of ancient Macedonia )which is found near the city of Katerini, right at the foot of the highest mountain of Greece, Mt. Olympus. He used to go there too before his expedition to the east.

    Alexander was Greek Macedonian, likewise you are American from California. Bulgarians have stolen the name Macedonia. He spoke greek, his teacher was Aristoteles. Were in history did Persia fight against the slavic people?
    Bulgarians just live nowadays, like you said, in land that Alexander claimed.

    • @normanlee31
      @normanlee31 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Firstly Hitler was Austrian, not German, secondly not all Germans supported Hitler. Third Nazism didn't just refer to the party, It referred to the whole era of the Second World War! So you date the bunkers to that time frame. Fourthly it explains in a nutshell why and by who the bunkers were built!

    • @skillfuldabest
      @skillfuldabest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@normanlee31 Why are you even mentioning Hitler's birth place? LOL And btw i'm German and we say in Germany "The Germans built that in WW2". If you think everyone conscripted into the German army was a "nazi" or even political then you are misinformed. Strong mental gymnastics to say "not all germans supported hitler" then simultaneously insist that Nazis built that bunker. Germans even in the party didn't call themselves "Nazi" since that was always a derogatory term.

    Your title is misleading. Today, you can't simply say Macedonia because Macedonia is a geographical region that belongs to several countries. You're in the Greek or Aegean Macedonia ( the region of central Macedonia in northern Greece). There is a country North Macedonia (Vardar Macedonia) and the region of Pirin Macedonia in Bulgaria. This is a sensitive topic and be more respectful!

    There was and will be only one Macedonia . Everything else is artificial . I'm not saying that slavic people are descendants of antient Macedonians but nether are todays" Greeks " . Using the same language as antient " Greeks " does not make you direct descendent . Native Indians in North America use English language , does that means they are English ? Hawaiians use English , etc . There is only one certain way to say who is closest relative to antient people that lieved in those regions and that is by DNA , not by books . All I'm saying is that people that live in Greece today have absolutly nothing to do with antient " Greeks " , neither people in Macedonia . The only difference is one adopted the language and other did not . That is same like if for example Romania desides to make Latin language as official language and after few generations future historians can say they are direct desendants to antien Romans .

Denying the Greek heritage do not make you any more "Macedonian" though your ancestors all called themselves Bulgarians in the past.
