EASIEST Way To Clear A Sewer Blockage -- This Should Be In Your Toolbox

- I want to show you the easiest way to clear a sewer blockage that I've ever come across. Owning multiple income properties, I have come across my fair share of sewer backups and blockages. Oddly enough, a friendly Roto-Rooter employee showed me the bladder method for clearing blockages. I'm here to say that I've cleared 30-40 blockages using a bladder. This has saved me thousands of dollars over time and should be in your toolbox. It's fast, easy and cheap to use, and will work over and over again.

Bought 1 for $10 at harbor freight and I was done in 30mins unclogging the main line. Thanks a lot
You're welcome!!!
Tried this today and it removed the blockage in my main line! Professional company wasn't able to remove the blockage a week ago and still charged me 700$ and was pressuring me to get them to dig a whole new leach field.
Thank you for this video!
This is exactly what I'm dealing with!
Did you have roots by chance?
@RaeRay-zp7xz I'm sure I'm dealing with some roots from blackberry bushes over the field, but the blockage was between the tank and the distribution box. I never had to dig it up, but it's still working fine.
Wow that is SIIIICK !! thanks for sharing your story about the creeps
I'm on a septic system and started hearing a gurgle from the kitchen sink drain. pulled the service cap off the septic tank and found it was ready to be emptied. Figured that must be causing the problem. Had that done and the next thing we knew the toilets were backing up. Did a little research and found there is a blockage in the pipe to the tank. Tried putting a small nozzle down the cleanout pipe outside but nasty things were coming back up. My suspicion was right, had a block at the tank. Called a plumbing service and they wanted 425.00 + to come out. And that would be in 2-3 days. Thank God for this video! Went to the big box store and picked up a bladder, came home, stuck it in the pipe as directed in this video and in 5 min all was golden! Try it! You'll like it! My wife and I sure did! We love saving money! Thank you soooo much for this video!
Thanks for the video. How have I never learned about this?? Built our home 10 years ago and never had a clogged sewer line till today. Day before Thanksgiving. Everything backed up. Called plumber. Came out and told me $600 to run their big snake... I reluctantly told them to give it a go. He couldn't reach the clog and they would have to send out their bigger equipment tomorrow which would cost $1,100. So while waiting I found this video, ran to the hardware store and with in 10 minutes I had it clear with this beautiful little device. Called the plumber back to cancel. $20 fixed what the plumber wanted $1,100 for. lol. Thanks Again.
$690 - that’s how much this video saved my family and me. It was easy from start to finish and unclogged my mainline on the first attempt. THANK YOU for making this video. 🎉🙌🏼
Glad to hear it!!!
You just saved me $500!!!!!!! tried a manual snake then ran to lowes after watching this video 30 mins later all clear!!!!! THANK YOU
Good deal!!!
This worked like a charm after two attempts! First attempt for 10mins, second for about 30mins. This literally saved thousands of dollars! Thank you!!!
Yes!! I went to Home Depot and bought a drain blatter and it completely worked! It took about 3 tries at different distances down in pipe, god sent tool, can’t thank this video enough for informing me about this amazing tool! Thank you!!!!!
Good deal. Thank you for watching!!!
It works! The plumber quoted $185. I bought this attachment at lowes for $21. It was simple and easy. Took me less than 10 minutes.
Good deal
Thank you sir....i did what u said....and it blew the blockage rite out.....i even still ran shower water and flushed toilets...and went back outside to check the mail line....i water was tunning it easy down the line...thank u again....i hope u get a million likes and subscribes
Good deal and thank you for the comment
Thank you soooo much! This helped me a TON! Our outside sewer line has 3 traps, so I started at the furthest and flushed AWAY from the house (obviously). I worked backwards because it seemed like it would be easier to flush the pipe in sections rather than trying to flush the pipe from the beginning all the way thru the yard and out to the end. It worked flawlessly. So much stuff blew thru the line that I was amazed (but in a gross way lol).
If anyone is interested, Harbor Freight has the sewer bladder for $9.99. I also got it at 30% off. Hopefully, this info helps someone.
Anyway, thank you for making this video. Your time and knowledge is greatly appreciated! ❤
Thanks for the comment
Came across your vid and gave this a try. A quick trip to homedepot and 20bucks later, my problem was solved! Thanx for taking the time to make this post. It worked for me. Main sewage line was clogged. Plunger and 6ft auger deal wasn’t getting it. This little thing here did the trick. Only took about 5-10mins. Back in business and probably saved a couple hundred bucks having to call a plumber.
Glad to help
I used a rag towel to hold the hose onto the sewer line, and let the water pressure to do the job. Same mechanism, and it works.
Praise Jesus. It worked 💪. I bought a drain bladder from a local hardware store. Returned home to insert the bladder into sewer pipe. It worked. The most difficult part was ensuring the bladder is routed toward the sewer instead of back into the house
How did you guess right?
Can it clear the grease out of a kitchen sink drain line?
@CoyoteVlogs the main line is away from the home and the clean out is in between. Make sure you're observing the pipe before putting it in as it will be difficult to see once it's in the clean out.
@@tyroonevans6685 no it is too big right? but he says you can get smaller ones. I have used the canned air with the suction cup sealer it worked
@@lindamorgan2678 thanks going to try that bye
Awesome video, did this wrong 3 years ago, got the bladder stuck, snaked every 6 months since until today. Line is clear. It worked perfectly!!!😊
I thought I tried everything imaginable (snake, every chemical on the market, etc.) and was VERY SKEPTICAL about this. Went a month with a clogged sewer line. I was just about to call a plumber for a $600 minimum hydrojet project when I found this. Placed an order on Amazon. Stuck it in my cleanout. This fixed the problem in two minutes. I couldn't believe it. Thank you.
Glad to help
wow, 51 years old and never seen one. Thaank you so much. You are the coolest.
Thank You, Thank YOU‼️ Roto Rooter Quoted $12k, But Could Do A Temporary Fix For $1.5k. My Brother, Had Me Rent A 50 Ft Snake And Buy The Bladder Set. I Can't Stop Crying, This Worked Great ❤ I've Shared Your Video With Everyone‼️May God Bless You Forever‼️
Most of the big name plumbing/rooting companies in my area are literally thieves. $300 job and they will quote thousands up to $20,000. Whatever they think you are stupid enough to pay.
Ive used it many times. Very effective. Particularly good for TP jams. A note on the comments. The pressure isnt that intense to cause damage. If it become detached it deflates and a router rooter can clear it
This work for me today. I put a metal string inside the water hose so I could bend the pipe to the shape that I need and it was easy job.
Thank you for this video! I couldn’t get anyone out so I started to research myself. I found this video, went to Lowe’s and bought the bladder. I put it in for about 3 mins and cleared my line.
Thanks for the comment
Update: again, thanks for making the video!
Hi again, just wanted to say this device worked like a charm! Took longer to drill & cut out the brass cap to the clean out. Best $20 I've ever spent!
Thanks for sharing!!!
As someone who spent 2 years as a service plumber and is actively working at a hydro jetting company these tools, while effective, are incredibly situational and usually are only effective if they are used at a access location where there is no other tie ins or vents between the insertion and blockage if there are other tie ins or vents there is a very real risk of flooding via the tie in or vent
Have you ever seen them work on drain tile blockage near the sump pump?
wow!!!!! 2 whole years???? lmao
@@stevetravels6160 : two years is Certainly enough time to see damage done, if that’s all you’re doing every day.
Just because it’s not 20 years, doesn’t mean he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

@@stevetravels6160don’t be that guy
As a plumber that has and still uses these from time to time for minor blockages mainly cleaning residual debris after the line is cleared with a cable. If you put this in a pipe in your home or any building if it doesn't clear all the water will backfeed from that open pipe and come out all over your floor.
I’ve always made sure it passed the vent line and always recommend pulse it on for 10-20 seconds checking the main clean for signs of water being pushed through if none then cable get ran
Yum yum
So I have a clean out right in front of my porch. I’m backed up on the house side. I’m currently snaking it with a 1/2 inch cable to no avail. I’ve been told to use this pressure water bag. Should I and how would I do it since the clog is somewhere between my house and the clean out? Any info at all would be appreciated
@Rich Well when you look down the cleanout is there water in the pipe. Also how long is you cable do you know
@@Allintn22 Nope, clean out is clear. It’s a clog on the house side of the clean out for sure. I bought the vevor 75ft 1/2inch machine.
Used this thing today because I had a clog and can’t believe how simple that was to do! Thank you for the tip! Saved me a couple hundred dollars for sure by spending twenty bucks. Best twenty bucks spent ever!
Good deal!!
I wanted to come back on here and say that this is worthy every penny!!!!! I seen this video last week and the plumber wouldnt ever return my call. So I went to amazon to give this a try. Cost me 16 bucks! Anyways I've had bad issues with clogs for years at this house I rent. The bladder showed up today and I set it all up put it in about 2 feet and let it run for 10 mins boom!!! No more clog. No more tub filling up with water or toilet not wanting to hardly flush! Buy it!!!! What we would go days dealing with waiting for a plumber this took 10mins

Thanks for sharing this. I watched the video while I was lying in bed. I woke up this morning and headed to the big orange store. This helped clean my clogged main line. My septic tank filter also needed to be cleaned which I did as well.
Thanks for helping out homeowners that like to fix things ourselves. 🎉

It worked! It was late Sat evening and the toilets didn't flush and the showers were filling up with vile stuff. Went to Home Depot at 9:30pm and bought the thing $24 - came home and tried it. Within 3 minutes main drain was flowing normally! The plumbing company wanted $250 to come out + repair cost.
Glad to help
Where did you put it thru ? Did you remove toilet and do toilet drain ?
Had a backup for a week until I saw this video. Thanks so much sir. Took five minutes once I bought this.

Just picked up a Kobolt one from Lowes while waiting for a plumber and it worked like a champ. Not bad for $20 and saved my at least a couple of $100. Thanks for the video.

You saved me $400, I got the Cobra 4-6 in. from Ace hardware, tried twice, and everything is clear! Thanks again!

Thanks I was working in the main line for hours trying to get it unclogged! Went and got the bladder took couple minutes and was clear! Thank you!!!!
Bro!!! Thank you SO much for this video!! It worked like a charm!! Got my large bladder for $10 vs $250 for Roto Rooter. Amazing!!!
Awesome, thanks for the comment
I have a house from the 40's and while I haven't had issues with the main stack, after seeing this video I'm almost convinced I should get a bladder and run it for preventive maintenance. ( .. run from inside the basement cleaning access plug that heads out to the sewer line.)
There's a 3" drain from the sink that runs 50' on concrete floor there's been occasional issues with.
Wish I'd know about this tool back then.
thank you so much!! my boss literally has this thing and she is on vacation i KNEW she used that black thing for the drains now i can learn on my own!
Glad to help. Thanks for the comment
You can also, with great care, use this to find the location of the blockage but you must have extra people to monitor the kitchen and bathrooms when you do this. Great video!
Mine was a straight pipe almost to the end of the sewer line, where the city would have been responsible, and it worked like a charm. As others have said, can't work on everything but where it will work, it works.
Yes it does works great, we have one of this at the carwash we used so many times it really save alot time and money...
They work great, they even work in RV's. I suggest a 4-6' hose with a cut-off valve to put on the end of the main hose and use only it for sewers, that way you don't get your big expensive hose in the shit and you can work this with one person because you don't want it popping out when you turn the hose on which can happen if you don't do it properly.
That same company sells one just like it, but instead of pin hole on one side; both sides have the gold metal piece it’s part #750. THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL ONE!!!!! The pin hole is okay, but the identical one with the metal piece instead of the pin hole will unclog almost anything. You use to find these at any local hardware years ago until they found out how good they worked & started taking money away from plumbers. Need a couple because will burst & tear after so many uses - but you’ll get your $20 worth. Going on 23 years of 5+ people in the house & never paid a plumber to come. Goes to show how long this tool has been around.
Agreed. The Drain King model #750 for 3-6" pipes as well as the Drain King #186 for smaller pipes will take care of most clogs in your Home.
Excellent advice. My home has two cleanouts and, oddly, the one nearest the house was the one going to the sewer. After the brain-teaser that was my bathtub filling with yuck...tried the closer one and voila. All good. Thank you!
Thanks for this video, using the sewer bladder fixed my blockage in 5 minutes

Been having issues with grease in my main sewer line.
My 50 foot snake works, but I have to clear out the main line almost every day!
I'll have to buy one of these! See if it clears everything out! Thank you brother for your advice!
You may need to get some of the enzymes that eat the grease. Takes a couple weeks, but works well. You can find it on Amazon.
You’ve probably fixed your problem by now, but I had an idea that might work. If it will reach, attach the hose to the drain on your hot water heater. Then you can melt the grease away.

Thank you for the video. I used one of these bladders today to unclog a sewage drain going from the house to the septic. It (the bladder) did its job efficiently. I am rather unskilled when using tools of any sort. Your video was spot on in the usage of the bladder. Best to you. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

This video was very helpful. Thank you so much! Yesterday, I spent a couple hours trying to clear a clogged drainpipe using a DeWalt 20V 25ft. power snake. I was so frustrated, that I searched TH-cam and found this video. A quick trip to Home Depot, and under 5 minutes using my garden hose and the drain bladder, my drainpipe was cleared. This was such a huge relief! Earlier yesterday, I spent $750 to have my septic tank pumped. I had used my DeWalt electric snake in the past to clear a clogged pipe. However, getting the drain bladder from Home Depot was the best $25 I have ever spent. Thank you again!!

These bladders are great and should be in every tool box.
Small and medium cover almost all pipe sizes.
These work fantastic. Never had an issue with one in 30 years
I used this today method today after watching your video, it worked fine for me. Thank you

Just had a clogged main line. This thing worked fantastic. Thanks!

I've used these blatters in my bathroom sink, kitchen sink, and toilet. They work great. The one problem I have had using it in the kitchen and bathroom is the vent pipe doesn't let it create suction and the forced water will come out the vent line on roof. I have had to climb on the roof and plug the vent line then it will work.
Yes that cheap tool can work very good! I just had my kitchen drain clear last week after trying other methods. :-)
Of recently borescope digital cameras have come down in price. We are talking less than $100. They often had a reach
of about 16 feet and some connect to a Smartphone or to a dedicated 5 inch display. It will allow you confirm a blockage
is gone or some other problem like a cracked pipe which allows roots and other things inside the line. But the expansion
bladder does pay for itself in one unclogging. Use it FIRST before sending a camera down the drain and don't use an old
bladder because rubber dry rots even after a few years .
Thank you this worked famously. I wish I would have tried this sooner I would’ve saved allot of money.
Tremendous.. I have a septic tank far away from my house and the clean out is near the house, but so far it appears clear. Still doing the water flush out and looks like the coast is clear. Thanks a million!!!

Thanks so much for this video as this item worked for me on the first go!!! I recommend having one at the house as it saved HUNDREDS..!!!

When you use one of those, as long as it gets the drain running pretty quickly, that's fine but if it doesn't get the drain running pretty quickly, the water will back up the vent from the drain and before you know it, you'll hear water running down the nearest downspout outside your house because the vent on your roof for the drain you are trying to unblock is overflowing which means, that water bag is not getting the drain running. When that happens, you'll need to "snake" the blocked drain the old conventional way.
easier to cap the vent
@@officerkrupke4966unless your house is over 2stories tall 😕
to get the bladder down the clean out pipe get a can of wheel bearing grease. wipe all over the bladder then use use a1" z2" to guide it into the drain pipe.i find this makes it easier to install and remove.the greese will not hurt the bladder.
I don't have a sewage line for a septic tank, but I was curious to watch. Nice to see a calm common sense person doing a video. Thanks for the vid.
Would work on most main lines. Doesn’t have to be a septic system.
Life saver. Have used one several times
As a Master Plumber for over 30 years I have used this before in special situations. It will push a clog past a ball of roots but it will not remove the root therefore you will have to use it several times per week until you have the roots cleaned out by a professional. Also if you use one on a drain in the house it will push raw sewage up the vent and when you go to shut the water off it will explode shit 💩 all over your walls, just an FYI! This is a temporary quick fix only.

Work like charm some people's call bladders move below joint so won't blow or split pipe got keep eye on it once seal inside it start pushing it VERY powerful
If you have an old sewer line, aren't you risking the rubber bladder might put too much stress on the sewer pipe and possibly crack it?
I have a property that keeps getting blocked every 6 months or so. Tenant was flushing wipes, but at least it's not roots. First time called a plumber, 2nd time used a large auger and did it myself (I own one, but it a pain and messy). I didn't even know about this tool. I went to the hardware store and got it right away and it worked without me getting covered this time. Thank you for the video and tips. This was a weekend and wallet saver!
Glad to help. It's saved me so much money
Just bought one last week at Harbor Freight for $9.99. This opened the line up in about 5 minutes but 2 days later it was clogged again. The 2nd time I hooked it up to the hot water heater and ran for 5 minutes. So far so good. I believe there are some roots in the line so this will just be a temporary fix for me.
They sell root killer for sewer lines. My dad had this same problem for a few years until he started religiously using root killer every spring and fall. Lilacs have incredibly invasive root systems. A 100 foot industrial snake auger failed where this clog buster got it running again.
Oh and a few rounds of scalding hot water helped too i imagine. Crank your hot water heater to max..
This is exactly what i was looking for! Thanks for making the video. I just ordered it from Amazon.
I just received the bladder from Amazon, got here the next day, so I was happy about that, the not so happy part after a few minutes, I heard a funny sound, turned off the water and pulled the bladder out, the end of the bladder had completely blown off, I guess it's somewhere in my sewer line now
Thank you so much! We thought we were going to need a plumber. Took your advice and the problem was resolved

As a plumber please be careful using these, you can flood your house and it can blow apart and stop up in your line. I do like this product but it can dry rot and needs to be replaced frequently. But I would still recommend calling a plumber to see what caused the stoppage
@E Id rather call a plumber than make something worst and cost more to repair it
3 times i had a plumber come in covered by a 3rd party home insurance (AHS) which i bought/paying monthly. They snake 100ft the 1st time succeed but they said they need a longer one which they did not have in their van. The 2nd time came back after a week with 200ft and still a fail. The 3rd time still could not push the grease clog and was advised for a water jetter that will cost me for $1200 out of pocket. I mean why do i have pay that huge amount of money when we are just dealing with a thick grease clog that is covered under my insurance. Am i being scammed here?
@E no its the right video this I meant to clear debris not a clog. It's good he said set it away from the home but still building that much pressure on a pvc pipe? It cost $2800 dollars to dig up the front yard, had to get a professional plumber with a heavy duty machine and camera. Had to cut the main line in two place to push the bladder out. Not worth the $24
Gimmicky gimmicks are gimmicky. Introducing high pressure into your sewer system can cause all kinds of problems.
Ya not a good idea dude
Can you show how and where to use smaller balloon inside house to unuplug shower and toilet
Yea did the same and now the drain clogged every few days because the bladder broke off and it’s stuck somewhere in there , gonna have to dig the yard
You used hot water didn't you?
I've been excavation contractor for 30 yrs and my father 50 yrs I ev had a lot of customers that used the one inside there house with out a good understanding of there waste line plumbing and have flooded the lower level of there house. I even seen one guy had a basement half bath with no vent he caped off the sink line took the toilet off stuck that in there and flooded the up stairs. If your going to use these make sure you have some one to help you by watching the next lowest drain
Exactly!!! Inside the dwelling, you have to know every inch of your plumbing before attempting.
Ty and God bless you! Worked on my septic field line!
Yes show us the small one for inside the house use please.
I had a very smaller version of this one and omg it worked wonders for my bathroom sink and now I have a block and a snake but going to the hardware store for another bladder cuz my mom stole mine, lol.
I used a large bladder in my 4" main line. After turning the water off, the bladder got stuck when i tried pulling it back out. I figured out how to twist the hose clockwise so it wouldnt unscrew the bladder and that freed the bladder to retrieve it.
My 4 inch sewer line was backed up between the cleanout in my yard and the street. I tried the drain king 3 times for about 10-15 minutes and it was still clogged. A few days later I tried it one last time but this time I forgot that I was using it and it ran for about 2 1/2 hours. After I pulled the hose out it made a big burp in the cleanout and the backed up water dissappeared.
My best guess is that the sudden drop in pressure allowed the clog to relax again and it started to fall apart after being compacted. Once it starts a trickle it can lead to a near complete degradation of the clog's integrity. The pressure may have been the last thing holding the clog together.
I knew of these 25 yr ago last year my nephew's home had clogged sewer I forgotten all about these now today I discovered a clog I found you

This tool is the best thing to come along for clearing sewer line blockages.
Man I really appreciate this! I cracked the lid of mine .. I'm hoping that I can find a replacement at the nearest hardware store.
Great video and demo....thank you very much. Question...I have a blockage possible 6-8 feet from the entrance of the sewer pipe....I have inserted the reg.waterhouse with a fairly powerful nozzle .I got the hose about ten feet down. It did the job...but within a day or two........depending how much #2...it backs up again......What blockage could that be ? Thank you again !!!!!!!!!!!
Probably roots. They would need to be cut with the correct bit using a powered snake.
@@Challenged1 Hi and thank you for your PROMPT reply. You are CORRECT it is roots.....got the camera in the pipe.........confirmed. Thank you again !!!!!!!!!
When doing this through an access clean out pipe, be aware that the vertical pipe will be literally full of brown soup (lol), so you won't be able to see which way the bladder goes very easily. If you get the direction wrong, you will have a disaster in your house if you aren't careful. This is another reason why I prefer an angled cleanout, angled towards the septic tank or the city sewers. BTW bladders are useless against clearing a sewer line of tree roots, so the problem will come back again.
Hi. Yes, could you make a video for the smaller one?
Thank you!
I’ve worked in a restaurant industry for 24 years and I use one of those multiple times a year just to clear out floor drains
You had a friendly Roto-Rooter person. I called Roto-Rooter the first time the mainline clogged and had the absolute worst-case scenario. The worker pretended to attempt to clear the block and then pretended to try again. Then started talking about the pipe needing replacing. Luckily, I am not mechanical, so I contacted my brother and father to ask their opinion and when the man heard that conversation, he left, charging me nothing. I called a local sewer company and when they came, they proved to me that the Roto-Rooter person hadn't even taken the cap off of the pipe. He had done nothing at all. They cleaned it out and told me that my pipe isn't broken and they said that there is a very widespread scam of pretending that pipes are cracked and then they crack them when they dig it up. My friend probably had that happen very close to the same time. Anyway, I found a sewer company that doesn't scam like that, but I still want to clear it once a year because there is nothing worse than having to clean the basement every few years when there is sewage everywhere.
root rooter are independent contractors. They size you up to see how much money they can get out of you. Really and truly some plumbing companies have a set price list for when they help you. Roto router does not. They took my mom for thousands on something. Years ago. And then I switched to a really good Plumber .. but this is great
This is a common rotor-rooter practice, they don't want to clear the clog they want to scam you, and make you pay thousands of dollars to put a pipe inside your mainline because they made thousands in commission. It almost happened to me, and I caught them trying to run the same scam on my parents house. Never call roto-rooter for any drain repair, they are all crooks, and after talking to former employees this is a common company practice.
@@duggrim5574 That is what the sewer company that took over the job said. I have read about it in comments on the internet so I know that it has to be true. I have a friend who did have her pipe changed. Mine is still in tact.
Thank u , please show us inside the house demonstrations too.
Thank u
I know most people will consider this to be overkill but when installing sewer drain lines I would use two sweeping WYE fittings facing towards each other.
The reason for this would be to make it easy to push whatever you are using to unplug the line in the direction you want it to go. If the plug is upstream under the house the house the sweeping WYE fitting will make the device go easily towards the house and past the other sweeping WYE fitting to get to the plug. Likewise the other sweeping WYE fitting will make the device easily go downstream and past the other sweeping WYE fitting to get to the plug on the downstream side. Either way, if the plug is between the sweeping WYE fittings you can still get to it as well.
Came back to comment on the product, this worked perfectly has already unclogged 2 pipes very highly recommend!!
