  • My latest rainy day project is the CuSi Bug. The circuit is a simple a-stable multivibrator with flashing LEDs. I built the circuit on the back of a button cell battery holder and added copper wire legs to create the bug effect. In this video I'll show you the circuit diagram and how I assembled the bug. Hopefully it may inspire you to get creative with your electronic circuits.
I created the chirping insect sounds on my Project XII modular synth. A square wave VCO was modulated with a triangle wave VCO and the output was patched through a high pass ladder filter. The output from the filter was sent into a vactrol VCA that was triggered by my Gatehouse gate sequencer. Finally a little ambience effect was added in the mixer.

I was going to make something similar but replace the cell with a wire loop and a bridge rectifier and a reservoir capacitor and then set the whole lot in epoxy. Then another loop with a high frequency current would wirelessly charge/power it.... but I haven't yet.
Great rainy day project. Super engineering/electronics fusion

Aaahh, I see now! I thought at first you had used a little IC to make the bug but this is much more clever. Very cute!
