Dude! The tension strap is genius. I just recently for the first time got some numbness in my fingers at a gig, and this duo strap is looking better than ever!
Hi I love the idea of the strap. I'm 4 feet 10 with back and shoulder problems. Really happy when it arrived - even happier when I clicked on the very well presented video. Blimey if only you didn't go so fast. I have a Gruvgear duo strap and I have not understood AT ALL how to attach the second strap. HELP please. Thanks in advance.
Chris Haskett is switching from his custom 9 String Guitar to a brand new Double Neck Guitar cause he & I both agree that a Double Guitar strap helps distribute the weight more evenly.
Hi Damian, I've just bought the Duo Neo but unfortunately haven't been able to use it yet. I have had to send off for the extra long extension. I'm pretty sure it will work for me eventually but I would say a couple of things you may want to consider as you are endorsing this. Firstly although I don't know your height (and forgive I'm not trying to be disparaging), you appear to be shorter than average. I am probably average height 5' 10" and this strap is in no way is long enough. I don't play my bass low. Secondly the advertising say 33" to 44" plus extension going up to 51" (I've also seen 56" and 62") the reality is that it's about 43" out of the box. For a tall person or someone with long arms this simply wouldn't work for them without additional cost. It would be so useful if it was shipped with the extra long extension to start with and for there to be options to cater for taller people than me. I worked out even with the extension it will be just about long enough. For anyone who is too tall for this but believes they would still benefit from one you should be able to take the supplied tail strap and go to a leatherworker / tanner (it's the shoe repairer here in the UK) and they should be able to make a replica of the required length pretty easily. Still looking forward to fitting it and hoping it works as well as you demonstrate. PS - Although I've not seen much of your work what I have seen I've enjoyed very much.
I’m 6’5” and had to use the extension strap, I also had to attach the standard strap that I took off to the right shoulder strap to make it long enough to attach where I wanted
Wil this work with a Les Paul? I have a bad back (had surgery years ago) and I cannot play my LP anymore. It’s so heavy and by the end of one set im done and in pain. This strap is really piquing my interest
Hi Damian, thank you for the video, it is very helpful. I want to ask if the Duo strap should be working while sitting as well as while standing. I have the Neo Duo strap, with the tension strap, and have a hard time adjusting it to hold my guitar in a classical posture when I play sitting down. My guitar has a heavy neck problem (it's SG electric guitar) and the neck keeps diving down. Any advice on how to figure out a stable position in a classical guitar sitting posture? Many thanks in advance :)
I tend not to use a strap when sitting but I have seen Dominique DiPiazza use it to keep the bass in that same position while standing by using the 2nd strap attached differently with his lower horn and around his waist, I believe? You might experiment with the lower horn (using the loop, likely) as a way to keep that headstock up. Hope that helps!
I'm not so much interested in even distribution of weight. I'm trying to stop "neck dive". Will it work for that, so that when you adjust it for a higher neck position it balances that way? How much range is possible (in inches)?
It definitely helps mitigate neck dive a bit. I’m not sure if it would eliminate it all together tho? Kind of depends on how severe it is? When you say range, which direction are you speaking? Just not sure what you mean by range….
For the flush-mount strap lock, I'm assuming you did not drill 1 1/4" into the back of your basses as the instructions recommend. Did you use different hardware than the stock screws? Thanks!
I used the included hardware. I've always just eyeballed it to make sure that there was enough depth available. One could certainly use charter screws, tho. I would recommend a short pre-drilling of the screw hole once you've drilled out the hole for the chamber of the flush mount lock
I have a problem with my left-hand thumb having to push the neck away from my body. I really want to not support the neck at all with my left hand. I would just like it to be a platform for my fretting. I switched to a headless S. Martyn bass to correct this problem, and to some extent it has helped but it doesn't completely alleviate the issue. Would this strap in its many incarnations help? thx
So, after playing a lightweight 4-string acoustic bass for decades I recently obtained a 6-string Ibanez bass. It is heavy enough that I'm looking into solutions like this maybe strap. As I observed the 3 setup examples in the video I wondered about a 4th or 5th option (yeah, seriously). Just wondering if I might get better positioning and balance by not using the usual top of the horn peg at all and maybe going all in on one central new peg (like the cool Dunlop shown) or perhaps installing a small plate with a super peg on the back of my bass. I swear I saw ZZ Top doin some windmills with their spinning guitars, and not for nothing but extra reasons to ponder setups beyond the 3 shown. Appreciate any input from anyone. Thank you.
I've had great success using the flush mount strap lock into the back of the bass shown at around 5:35 in the video. You could definitely install that anywhere in the back that works for you although I've found a much better balance when it's installed near the neck joint as opposed to the middle of the body, etc... I'd definitely go for the flush mount as you wouldn't want anything to protrude too much. Absolutely worth exploring your balance points to match the bass balance with your body type, etc...
@@DamianErskineBass Thanks so much for the fast reply. I agree, since the 6 string has the extra 2 tuners the headstock is extra heavy, which makes it most likely appropriate to locate that flush mount as close to the neck joint as possible. Lifting that extra weight with my left hand and trying to hold the bass in ideal playing position is bound to lead to fatigue sooner, so the duo strap might be an ideal solution.
@cachelesssociety5187 I never did buy this strap. My solution was how Trey Gunn has his tapping bass pins set. One on lower horn and one on body top aligned with bridge pick up. It's funky and doesn't look great, but I can move my bass to any position and it won't move or slide w a standard eerie ball strap.
Hi Damian , I have the main strap at max length for my guitar and it is only sitting over my stomach. I'm not tall and I'm slim. It seems very short ? I can't adjust it any further. Are there different lengths? Im in the UK and the shop I got it from don't seem to know the answer. Can I email you or someone else? Maybe I am doing something wrong .. Thanks 😎
@@DamianErskineBass Hi Damian , yep I just noticed at the bottom of the website. No worries I’ll find a way of sourcing the extra parts here. If not I’ll order from the USA and hopefully not get charged too much customs ££ Thanks for the swift reply 👍🙏
I went to my local dealer and tried this. Took my time to set it up wit my fender jazz bass. I let it be the longest it could go and the bass was so much in my chest that I looked like Rex playing a bass(if you know what I mean). I am 6.3 tall. So you might have to do some mods if you need this. Didn’t buy it still on the search.
I'm 5'10" and the standard length straps work well for me (I play with the bass resting against my belly basically) but you may need the 'Extra long tail straps', which are sold separately through Gruv Gear.
@@DamianErskineBass Thanks, Damian. I feel that this could have been included and provided by default. After paying this price I would expect the minimum covered. Anyways I appreciate the response.
Damian, you're wasting away! I kid, of course, but looks like you've lost weight. Assuming that's intentional, congrats. Thanks for the strap tip; seems like a great idea. 👍
This thing is ok for players that may have a physical problem they cant fix but I overcame back and posture problems I had in my early 30's with just plain getting my ass in shape.
I found it intuitive to set up. Some do not. It's not an average strap and is designed to reduce stress and weight on one shoulder (it came about because I was experiencing nerve issues from gigging too much with a heavy bass). If it's not setup properly and with attention to lengths in relation to each other, it doesn't do it's job well. If you're looking for a strap to simply hold your bass in front of you then....yeah, it's too much to think about. If you're having back or nerve issues (like many do) then it's worth paying attention to the setup and doing it right. 🙄
Dude! The tension strap is genius. I just recently for the first time got some numbness in my fingers at a gig, and this duo strap is looking better than ever!
Same here, I have a pinched nerve in my neck, and this looks like my only option.
Basically it's a Guitar version of Accordion Straps. This really makes the Double Neck Guitar more enjoyable as it distributes the weight more evenly.
Very cool design with the different options! Best review of any strap I’ve seen yet!
Much appreciated!
I found this page by looking for something for a double neck guitar. Great innovation!
Would have appreciated an explanation of the locking screw and plastic mechanisms.

Yes this is a Fretless 5 String. You see as we start to add more strings to this Bass, the Duo Strap really makes a big difference.
Well, might get me one for my 6-string Warwick. Great bass, but it's like lugging around a coffee table.
