- Watch Kali Rush of Ducks Unlimited discusses the Wetlands Conservation Program, a new initiative aimed at integrating wetlands conservation into the landscape to improve water quality in the Western Lake Erie Basin and Saginaw Bay Watershed. The program is funded by the American Rescue Plan at nearly $4 million.
Ducks Unlimited partnered with the Michigan DNR to implement the program, which focuses on wetland restoration, enhancement, and land acquisition in the Western Lake Erie Basin and Saginaw Bay Watershed. Eligible activities include wetland restoration, enhancement projects, and land acquisition projects. The expected funding range for projects is $250,000 to $750,000.
The program has a tight timeline due to the American Rescue Plan, with a closing date for proposals around the end of February or by March 1, 2024. Projects are expected to start in the 2024 field season, with completion by October 1, 2026.
A webinar on January 12, 2024, will provide more details and guidance on the program. Rush encourages interested parties to join the webinar, seek information from Ducks Unlimited, and consider submitting project proposals by the deadline.
The initiative aims to align wetlands conservation with water quality improvement efforts in the region.
