I recently had 30 DAT's from around 1998 to 2003, old recordings now. They'd been kept in a bad place (a wicker basket in the sun on a cupboard, sometimes damp too; stupid I know), out of 30 only 28 would play back, two snapped but your video helped me to repair the last two. It's a fingers crossed moment when you place them on the tray and hit the close button. Mine is a Tascam DA20 MK2 and all tapes were recorded on that model. I found that the longer tapes, anything above 30 minutes, were showing error codes now and then, and Maxell seemed to be the worst tapes, Sony and TDK never gave me a single issue; fast forward and rewind the full tape before playing them too. THANKS for the upload!
Hello Do you happen to know if the small plastic piece ( orange here) that enable recording or protecting against accidental recording is standard for all DAT tapes I have a bunch that don’t have it and I like to see if someone can make me some via 3 D printing so I can use these tapes to record on them Thank you kindly
holy shit, are ya goin to release that unreleased dat stuff at any point? i'm a big fan of your oldskool works, so i'm looking forward for it to be released in any form was surprised to see this video released by you, honestly. hope ur tapes are safe greetz from moscow; toffo
Hi Eva! I'm considering one of them for inclusion on the next release as it fits well with the new stuff completed during lockdown. Tapes are safe now, thanks. Two of the tapes snapped, but I rescued them. Keep an eye /ear out: mikedred.bandcamp.com/ for the next release.
heya dear Mike hope You fine ! nice tape restore, the TDK ( specially the 120 min ) tapes not well so be carefull with ;) please tell me if you have used a special adhesive tape ? nice to see the Dat Tape is running again, phweee ... good old days of Rephlex, A 303 and Acid Lab (UK) Big ups !
Hi ya PolyGirl. Yeah! They get flakey after all these years, I've rescued all the tapes now. I used polyamide tape for this job, as that was to hand. The track that was affected lost about 20 seconds, but no big deal as I can edit digitally. Hope you're still making music!
@@MikeDredTV very nice to meet You again here ,thanks for the tip to take polyamide tape for repair. i also recordet lots of old trax from Dat to hard disc but first given Dat recorder to repair :)) nice to hear you will and can editing the lost seconds on the track ! i still work on again on trax , had a hard time all the last years but had releases \o/ and will go on. the acid love always growing up !

Judging by the soundtrack, time for a new Universal Indicator 12. UI Orange?
Now there's an idea! Plenty of neglected material to choose from!
universal indicator was a nice suprise
This needs a release Mike. Classic stuff.
I'll get em mastered and whack em up on mikedred.bandcamp.com soon.

I hear that any old radio head would curse for 5 minutes if seeing such a botched tape spilicing.

@@MikeDredTV thank you!
Scissor through both strips of the tape for a perfect fit, even if careless. Also cut at an angle.
Christ, you couldn't do that after a night on the sauce! 😂 Good job though man 👍 👍
Haha! Too True! Thanks! :)
