His problem is he only knows how to do black comedy. Pryor, Eddie, Rock, Chappelle, can do stand up and make everyone laugh, no matter your race or background.
I saw Spears on one of the secondary shows, I think it was Conan, during the era of Leno and Letterman, Spears was doing bits from his comedy album. He talked about talking to a preacher as DMX and talking about stuffing dudes in the booty.
His impression was good, but Conan O’Brien’s audience doesn’t know DMX well and theyre not going to appreciate the bit. The entire interview was awkward because Aries wasn’t getting any laughs. It was almost as bad as Doug Williams during the Emmit Smith roast, minus Jamie Foxx.
I actually think Spears has some hang ups about not being able to connect with mainstream audiences because Ive seen him try and you always notice he takes little shots at guys who have crossed over, like Hart, Chappelle, Key & Peele, etc.
Hes also arrogant af. Which is why he's a nobody today

I never understood how this guy is not that well known or should i say “big”. His impressions (most of them) are top of the line in comedic impressions. His characters (mad) were extremely sharp and thorough. His specials are phenomenal and he has GREAT energy. Speaks and has bits for every race and type of person.
