If i was lost in the desert with a walkman with umlimited batteries and could only listen to one band forever it would be the meat puppets. Happiness rules.
I sent them message on My Space back in the day, and they got back to me. So cool. I just told them that if I was stranded on a desert island with 1 cd...I'd want " Too High to Die". They said thanks...lol

The voices of the Kirkwood brothers produce a unique and beautiful sound.
Great set and they are so damn good. Curtis is just amazing. My favorite album is Forbidden Places and glad they played Open Wide and Sam; everything here is brilliant.
I saw the MPs at CBGB in 1989 or so and it was amazing and sooooo hot. They came out for a second set and Chris through jugs of water on the crowd. Me and my friends were pressed against the stage, shirtless due to heat and just sweating and dancing. This is one my favorite shows ever. I think Curt was interviewed by Spin mag outside after the show and mentioned how hot it was and how that just took the whole show up to a height that brought him close to passing out.
stumbled upon this concert while searching for more live meat puppets...not the same as the 80s and 90s but wow still...these brooklynites have no clue...lol...how can you stand still for so long when this great music is being played????...
@@void0094 it didn’t strike you as odd that someone freshly out of band would start a bunch of social media accounts, add only fans of that band, and then hit them up out of the blue to talk shit about a member of that band while incapable of backing up all the egregious claims he’s made? Does that sound like something a “great dude” would do? Just something to consider. Now, imagine being the person who the hate campaign is aimed at and having dozens of people you don’t know contact you with the exact same story about this dude dragging your name through the mud. If holding my tongue and not acting like a total creep makes me weird then I’ll take it. I’m not the one who got fired. Probably the best rock guitar tone I have ever heard (after Johnny Marr of course) Distorted but totally clear. At the end when he is doing the solo it sounds just like the Clapton woman tone.

Same here. Or it may have been 85. It was right after Up On The Sun was released. They were so crazy and manic then. Haven't seen them since Forbidden Places. Nothing against Curt's son, or the other guitarist they had in the 90's, but I can't get used to them as a four piece.
Still have two signed autographs of Kurt. 1994. One with just his name on my ticket an the other is a dvd of him an Kris. Def something that I’ll pass on to my son. Meat puppets were a huge inspiration to Kurt an the band.
It’s to make sure you had a reason to leave a pointless comment and insult my name, because you’d definitely never do it in person. You’re welcome, glad i could accommodate 😍
Does anybody know how kirk got that tone around 12:22 during touchdown king? I don't mean the overall tone of the guitar throughout the song I just mean that kind of harmonic sounding tone I can't really describe it but I would love to figure out how to do it. I hear trey from phish do a similar thing I don't know how it is achieved. Thanks!

OK, "cliche time" : Most Underrated band of all time. (I know, I know, EVERYONE says that about their favorite band, get over it) It's true, though. I never saw the Meat Puppets "Proper", that is, the original 3 piece line up, but I've seen Curt 3 times - twice while Cris was "absent" with another band lineup and one time Curt played solo, sitting on a stool, being fucking awesome all by himself. I believe he opened for Sonic Youth. All 3 performances took place in Dallas. I'd have loved to see the original lineup live but I'll take what I can get. God bless 'em. I take comfort in the fact they're too high to die.
because youtube said my video was shaky and asked if they could fix it. i stupidly answered yes without checking all the footage to see how it came out.

I came here with low expectations because I had seen video of other live performances through the years. Once again... disappointment. I can relate to your opinion being unpopular even with yourself. Backwater is one of my all-time favorite songs (at least the album version and music video), as my playing it very enthusiastically at a gig 25 years ago contributed to me getting lucky that night. A trick I thought I would likely never be able to repeat, but pulled off again 4 years later. So, very fond memories thanks to that song. Sadly, no amount of sound engineering would save these gentlemen from sounding on par with most high-school cover bands.
@@pike666dbholy Shit… you’re ridiculous. You show me a high school cover band that can play guitar like this and I’ll show you Santa Claus. Outta your fucking mind.
They are so self indulgent in concert. Saw them in 2017 and I was surprised by the long jams -- too long. There were moments of brilliance, but not enough.
I like long jams. Its kind of what makes watching a band live worth it. If i wanted to hear their album cuts, I'd pop on an album. The best part of experiencing live music is the creation. The parts where there's No rehearsal, no planning. You get to hear it happen as they invent it. Thats special.

Best band ever. Current incarnation. Rat farm, is, in fact, sooo good.
Go go go, Elmo.
Truth! Every decade, they've been putting out top-notch stuff. Treasure this band.
Richard Grandmont and they’re just getting better!
Years ago I played Rat Farm at a party. Some music snobs made fun of it. Ieft that parry.
Mark Pino . . . As so you should have! They clearly had no appreciation for the finer things in life.
“Backwater”, is TIMELESS. Beautiful piece of music. Brilliant sound production at this show too 👏🏼

It's because they're not real Brooklynites....these are blow-in hipsters who grew up far from the borough. The real NY died 25 years ago.
Well this footage has helped me to accept Elmo into my heart. Meat Puppets reign supreme!
Shandon sahm told me on Instagram, that he left the band because of him. Elmo fits in the band imo. He plays good solos.
