Micro services call each other as simple REST api. We call it using httpclient libraries. Please checkout micro services playlist for some examples in other videos

REST over http is popularly used. But, it's not limited to that, you can use frameworks like gRPC, message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ etc., or rollout your own socket communication (a tough option).. There is no restriction..
