I’ve grown very close to my Indian co worker and he actually cooked me some Lamb, and it was slow cooked in this orange sauce for 2 days (forget what it was), but he claimed it was pretty spicy (I like spice) but I think us americans find it more overwhelming than “spicy”. There’s like a million spices used in every dish and it can be a lot to our taste buds lol! Great dish, but even my Italian seasoning ass found it very overwhelming
Chicken Marsala is a dish created in the UK and not from India, and just a take-off of other dishes. Although the UK Indian restaurants have embraced it since people want it.
my next door neighbours are Indian (Sikh) and this culture are the friendliest, sometimes after they have cooked, any left overs/extras they will give to us and they cook nice spicy vegetable foods, the vegetable samosas are my favourite
We can eat Indian recipes in America and other Western countries because the water, meat, and vegetables are clean enough for our bodies to handle. If the same people prepared the same food in India and a Westerner ate it, he would get violently ill. There are certain microbes that some groups can handle but others can't, and India causes the absolute worst food poisoning for Westerners. If you've ever heard the term "Delhi Belly", that's what it means. We can actually die if we drink the water, while they can drink it without getting sick. I remember when I was living in Ecuador (and this is a country that is twice as developed as India) and I literally had diarrhea for 3 months (so, my entire stay). I was at a restaurant and struck up a conversation with a German guy who'd been living there for THREE YEARS and said he hadn't had a normal bowel movement since he moved there. Indian food is my favorite cuisine, but I know that if I actually travel there, I'm probably going to spend my entire trip in the bathroom. I couldn't even handle home-cooked food in Ecuador. I don't think this should offend people. It's not an attack on their character to say that they're better adapted to the food and water than foreigners.
I remember one of my favorite teachers EVER (who was absolutely gorgeous and super intelligent) telling us India is exactly what you’d think: 50% completely beautiful, 50% complete gross trash fire, often right next to each other. She loved her homeland, but made no excuses for how amazingly, beautifully wonderful AND terribly, disgustingly troubled it was 🙂
I feel like in the UK we can handle Masala, it's the more spicy like Rogan Josh that gets a bit more spicy and then those who love it but have to be sensible go for the Vindaloo.
We gotta be able to laugh at ourselves wherever we are and what we believe, because we're a strange creatures. We may be a unique animal compared to the rest on this planet, but we're weird as shit xD And with it, many different ideas of how things go. I wish we lived in a world where everyone got along and basic moralities and altruism were instinctual, not something that generally had to be taught in a nature vs nurture way situation. We'd be far more agreeable and determined to make the best of ourselves. All the ego, pride, greed, prejudice, racism, sexism, all of the bad -isms have caused so much needless struggle and hate across the millennia. One world should have one people standing together for what's right. Not borders and playing politics for a handful of leaders who desire power, control, and hoard wealth at the expense of the future.
I live in a village in front of the ocean. Been to Mumbai once for 2 days and I can't describe the smell in words. Now I know why everyone makes fun of how dirty and smelly Indian cities are specially Mumbai and Delhi.
