My first bike was in 1969.. a red Stingray. Handle bars wide enough to give a friend a ride. Great memories... thanks.

Oh my gosh, I thought I fell back to 1974, my Junior High School days, I was loving it and I was not ready to move forward to our present day. Thanks for a great video.

I think the Sting Ray....is by far the most iconic line of bicycles . Classic styling, and one can still easily afford to find them as project bikes.

Man. I have wanted one of those bikes forever.
    So has everyone else.
That's why they are so expensive!
    Stingrays!

    Wow...what kool rides!
When I was a kid, I had a purple Huffy five speed Banana bike... I can't remember what model name those were called. Anyway, I miss it.
Now, I have what I like to call a "Phony Phantom"... It's a '96 Schwinn Deluxe Seven in black n red, but it's all dressed-out in Fifties period accessories... Just exactly what I wanted as a kid, but never did own.
Now I'm 55 and in my second childhood!😂
It's great to see y'all enjoying yourselves.
    Cheers

I'm 63 years old. When I first saw this style of bike in 1968, I wanted one. In 1969, I wanted one. In 1970, I wanted one. In 1971-72,73, 74, and even in 1975, I wanted one. I never got one.

I love your Sting-Ray shirts. Guys at the shop I was working at back around 98' had similar ones, but I was lowest part-timer on the totem pole and so I didn't get one.
Nice windshield on that Lemon Peeler. Now that's a rare accessory.

Enjoyed this video a ton. I have a co-worker by the name of Jeff that loves Schwinns and many other brands. We only get to work summers and this cat is all about his old skool cos he grew up during the muscle bike era and I gotta tell ya he will dig this. Myself being younger I grew up with Haro, GT, Auburn, Powerlite, and SE American and 1 Special Schwinn XS custom from '96 when the Foster brothers made Schwinn a household name again in the BMX world. Jeff if you find this video it yours.=)

I had so many Stingrays growing up they were common as trees. My last one was Green with the rear SISI bar. They got broken or bent by hitting limbs or someone grabbing them most the time. Then as time went on people started putting sprung front ends on them and stretching the forks. Frame mounted shifters, etc..

The Lemon peeler is my favorite out of the bunch, it's got some cool accessories like the checker flag mirror and windshield. All nice bikes though.

When I first heard about "San Francisco Stingrays," I said to myself, "how do they ride Stingrays in a town that's so full of steep hills?" I guess there are some relatively level spots in SF, according to what I saw in the video, anyway. I own nine Stingrays, the years, 63, 65, 67, two 73's, one of which is a Sunset Orange Krate, a 74, an 81, a 99 Country Time, made by Giant Bicycles, and a 2007 Black Friday, made in China, I customized into a chopper, and I customized the 99 into a dragster.

Love these old school American classics. In fact, I just a few weeks ago bought an original 1966 Schwinn Sting Ray 5-speed. But where did they get the names of the key components for these bikes? ie, "butterfly" handlebars (as in, that dainty/beautiful insect that floats around in the air), "banana seat" (as in, sitting on a banana), "sissy bar" (as in, a hangout for, well, you know what).

    • @TC-ep5up
      @TC-ep5up 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Then again, all of that applies to chopper motorcycles as well.

Yes, the Grape Krate is a repo. Some of the early Grape Krates were made in Taiwan, and then the rest were made in China. Pretty sure about that, anyways. You can tell by looking at the goose necks. Yes, the original Grape Krates are very rare, so are the black ones.

Some of the bikes there do have the Speedometer. These are the original bikes but some people might of had broken speedopemeters or still looking for that for their final part if missing.
Tomorrow is Classic Pedal day in San Francisco. 11AM in front of the Ferry building same as in this video.

I was born in '71 so for me there are 3 types of bike from my childhood: 1. I'll call them banana seat bikes, some people call them muscle bikes. Big rear tire, banana seat and ape hanger bars .2. "dirt bikes". I use that term for bikes that came from the factory made to look like an off road motorcycle. Knobby tires, big padded seat, plastic fenders, shit some even had fake gas tanks and rubber fork protectors. I hardly ever see these.3. BMX bikes. Of course you all know these. No fenders, knobby tires, and as light at possible.
