- After experiencing Pentatonix for the first time a few days ago with their version of Hallelujah -- which BLEW me away -- I've noted the various recommendations from subscribers, and decided to check out Sound of Silence. Needless to say, to those of you who know this a cappella group, they didn't disappoint.
Pentatonix is the gateway to a whole lot more. Voctave, Home Free, Voice Play just to name some others.
It only takes one Pentatonix experience to become hooked. Welcome to the family......
Their original song Run to You is unbelievable. It touches me to my very soul I swear.
New guy is Matt. He is immensely talented. We all miss Avi, but love Matt for what he brings.
Absolutely. Both are immensely talented,
Perfectly said.
Yeah, it's true...and I'm a pretty big Avi booster...if I had one nitpick, I feel like Matt has a more traditional operatic projection at full voice full blend. But that can evolve.
I thought Avi was a much better fit in the group. His bass voice sounded much more natural. With Matt I often have the feeling that his voice is electronically pitched down.
I agree, Avi sounds warmer, and Matt brighter, but both sound gorgeous.
Agree about the headphones, it will take you to another level, and really appreciate Kevin... that said, welcome to Pentatonix. There is no video that won't blow you away.
These five wonderful young people may have taught the angels how to sing!
Their harmonies are heart piercing. I think I played it on loop the first two days.
Your description of the harmony structure was spot on. It's hard to put into words just how incredible their arrangements and execution are, but you managed to capture it well. You are right that there has to be a delicate balance of singing and listening to produce the balance and fullness that Pentatonix consistently accomplishes. There is nothing wasted and nothing gratuitous in their arrangements. Every note, pause, crescendo, breath, beat, and moment has a purpose. I am dumbfounded by the amount of talent each individual member has and how as a group they transcend all expectations and assumptions of what an acapella group can be.
I highly recommend Disturbed's version of this song. Pentatonix are ridiculously talented and almost everything they touched is a polished gem due to their insane talent and instincts. Their version doesn't QUITE hit the same emotional depth (It's still stupidly powerful, I'm comparing a 97 to a 100 on a test haha). And this song has a LOT of interpretations, nobody is wrong for thinking the original, Pentatonix or Disturbed's version is the best one. But again, highly HIGHLY recommend Disturbed's cover.
In the history of PTX, Scott sings bass when Avi or Matt do not, which shows just how talented they all are. ❤️
This is their cover of Disturb’s version of The Sound of Silence. Please react to Disturb’s version as well. Their video is absolutely beautiful and really brings the song to life. Their live version from Conan is awesome as well. It truly shows David’s vocals. Keep in mind while listening to his live performance that he was very sick at the time - but still did an amazing job! You should do reactions to both! (Video first, then live - IMO)
Every time you see Mitch he looks different. Sometimes too different. LOL He does exude confidence these days. Years ago he was shy and self-conscious and didn't willingly put himself forward. I guess stadiums of screeming admiring fans has convinced him he's a worthy person.
Watch out, we pentaholics are legion, and the more pentatonix you watch, the more followers you will get! :) A few amazing ones to watch (while they are ALL great) are Imagine (gives you chills with the message and composition), Daft Punk Medley (their first Grammy winning video), evolution of Michael Jackson (my personal favorite evolution video) and Radioactive (Kevin busts out his cello and Lindsey Sterling joins on her violin). If you want to see Mitch's amazing talent live, watch the Aha! live in Singapore video--you will be shook! Welcome to the club and keep reacting!
His name is Matt. & no one dares to disturb the sound of silence!!!
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is on of my favourite videos of theirs. It also showcases their harmonies without lyrics.
Mitch is a chameleon and changes his look regularly. Kirstie does too but mainly by wearing different wigs.
A song that shows how good they really are is Can You Feel The Love Tonight from the Lion King. When the audio came out most people couldn't distinguish who was singing at times because the blend was perfect then the video (which was delayed by Disney) surprised us all but it's magnificent
I love, love, love Pentatonix and their rendition of the Sound of Silence is pure harmony...but to be on the fair side, I find that the version sung by Dave Draiman from Disturbed is the most amazing and powerful cover of this song...and let's not forget that Draiman is not your average singer...he is a fully trained opera singer turned hard rock/metal lead of the band Disturbed. Would love to see your reaction to Disturbed's cover...their video is also perfectly in tune with the words of the song. Every time I listen to it, at the exactly the same moment (you'll know/feel yourself that moment) my whole skin gets goosebumps and I literally feel my hair even on my scalp getting up....incredibly powerful, haunting and piercing straight to your deep core... Enjoy!
Their Mary Did You Know will make you cry and you get to hear Kevin sing a solo!
Welcome to Pentatonix!!!! Love your reactions so far & cannot WAIT to see more!! I was a HARDCORE Pentatonix fan since day 1 on The Sing Off, but I've since been converted....I am now a PentaFry lol!!! That's a Pentatonix fan (Pentaholic) & a Home Free fan (Home Fries) hence.....Pentafry! They are an equally talented acapella group (won the same show as Pentatonix did in the following season.) Different stylistically but just as amazing. A lot of fans are either or but you seem to truly just enjoy the artistry so I feel you would definitely enjoy them as well. Another group is Voiceplay. All of them are amazing all around & have amazing basses & percussionist as well as ALL being stunning vocalists. Enjoy the new discoveries!
Mitch's voice is life altering...
FYI: you should always try listen to pentatonix with headphones
I agree completely!!!!!! Headphones let you hear it all!!!!!
Especially helps you get all of Avi or Matt’s contribution
In the absence of excellent studio monitors or good speakers, headphones are a must!
Very true. The surround sound makes it better
I totally agree. You get to really enjoy them that way
Pentatonix one of life's great pleasures! Glad you found them, many treats in store!
Ahhhh - the birth of a pentaholic! LOVE IT! I live for this content to keep me going during the lockdown! GREAT Reaction and looking forward to seeing Imagine as others have requested. I think you'll REALLY enjoy it! :-)
My god this man is beautiful.
I love it when people make reaction videos for Pentatonix 😍 it always catches my attention
You don’t realize (yet) how versatile their voices are.
You are quickly becoming my favorite reactor. Watching you enjoy the music makes me happy. ☺
I think I know what you mean at the top. It sounds like they are perfectly synchronized like a quartz crystal. It's amazing.
Lol I love to watch the delight on your face as you discover the group. Another song with some truly majestically harmonies is Mary Did You Know.
Please watch Imagine. They add an even better message to the already wonderful message of the song.
And all 5 of them have solo parts. You will get to hear Kevin's lovely tenor.
Have to agree with that. Watching that video I cry everytime. Totally amazon.
Yes!!!!! Watch and please react to pentatonix imagine video!!!!!! Wear headphones ❤ it's an amazing experience! Ps: Matt is the new guy who replaced avi.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeees!
Yes, please do. Imagine is pretty phenomenal.
We do all miss Avi Kaplan being g with the group, but I must give props to Matt. Avi Kaplan does his own music now. May I suggest you react to Change On The Rise. Awesome job reacting. You are going to become such a Pentaholic. Welcome to the family.
I watch a lot of Pentatonix reaction videos, and you are one of the best reactors to their videos. I can see the pure joy and delight in your face and eyes when watching and listening to these videos. I love it. :)
Thank you so much. I'm just thrilled to have found them...:)
It's kinda hard to be disappointed in anything they do... Daft Punk was one they won a Grammy on and they recorded it in a kitchen closet! (And yes ALL of it is only them and no electronics..)
wow
@@lukashasselNY They're still performing Daft Punk live too, this is a fancam from a concert last year! th-cam.com/video/vz4CFeWBiEQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi Lukas, sincere thanks for your insightful reaction to this classic song performed by Pentatonix. You filmed it a year ago, but at that time I was not yet one of your subscribers, so missed it. I appreciate your genuine delight when you share your reactions. So very refreshing!
I love that you pay attention not just to the lead but also how dynamic all the support is, and all their exquisite ensemble-ness (it's a word). Talent, and expert skill as you've said before. I'm loving experiencing them again through your eyes (and ears).
I’m sure you’ve already been asked to do Disturbed’s version of “The Sound of Silence” I’m hoping that you haven’t because you’ve already seen it. If not you REALLY should check it out. Official is beautifully cinematic. Live on Conan is unbelievable. They both are actually. I’ve seen a LOT of reactions and you are to me as soothing as Pentatonix is to you.
Excellent reaction from an obvious professional in the business.......thank you.
Thank you for another reaction to pentatonix. The new guy took over when avi left and started a solo career and his name is matt and he did this amazingly.
Thanks for giving them what they're due.🤩💜
More! More! My favorite songs are, Love again (an original) and Daft punk. Their electronic sound just blows me away.
I've watched a lot of PTX reaction videos but I have to say, watching you react and hearing your commentary.... some of my absolute favourite!
I am thoroughly enjoying watching you respond to Pentatonix. The expression on your face is of sheer Bliss
You are a lucky human, as you are capable to get the holistic experience and express it. I "compose" them equally. They can not only be heard, but felt and almost smelled. Please keep on.
‘Daft Punk’ was their first Grammy. They were broke. And filmed the video in a kitchen closet, with an iPad. It cost $400 to make. You mentioned their blending and homogenized sound. That takes many many hours of practice. Between the hours of practice, and their tour schedule-it’s a lot. Avi found it tough to maintain. He left amicably, and helped the group (including producer and arranger Ben Bram) find Matt. Matt is a graduate of the Berkelee College of Music in Boston, where he majored in vocal performance. He has done acapella since high school. Hands down, Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Kevin, Avi and Ben chose Matt above all the others who auditioned. Kirstie also said she wanted Matt because he KNOWS how to work hard, and it doesn’t faze him. I think they’re all really thrilled with their choice-it’s been 2 1/2 years. Be aware. Mitch and Kirstie have changed their look a lot. Mitch, in particular, lost a lot of weight, and always has a different hair style. And of course. AGE. Pentatonix got together in 2011, when Mitch and Kirstie were 18 and Scott was 19. They found Avi and Kevin. Now, they range in age from Kevin (31), Scott (28), Kirstie and Mitch (27), and Matt (26). Kevin is (so far) the only married member. And Kevin is enormously gifted in many things-beatboxing, cello, and fluency in Mandarin. When Scott and Mitch saw Kevin on TH-cam all those years ago, Kevin was THISCLOSE to starting medical school! He has said he never regrets choosing Pentatonix instead. I’ve seen them live twice. They sound exactly the same! (A direct result of many hours of rehearsal!) Those of us who are fans call ourselves PENTAHOLICS-a label this old lady from New York State wears proudly!!
Fabulous intel. Thank you!
I love a man who loves a cappella - the purest music there is. The joy in your eyes and on your face is just what I feel. Thank you!
You're hooked! Can see it in your face. Just wait...so much more.
Second video and I’m loving your reactions! Thank you for picking up on the little things that make them so special. Not sure if you’re wearing headphones or not, but I suggest you do. You will hear so much more in the background, which makes them even more impressive. Kevin is a genius at his beatboxing (he has solo stuff out there too that is incredible), and there are sounds that often get lost without the headphones IMO. Thank you again for reacting to them!!!
Listening with headphones is amazing. You can hear so much more detail!
I love watching you expressions . I enjoy seeing you being surprised!
Thank you for mentioning their incredible skill at actively listening to, not simply hearing one another. That is a huge part of what they use to get their perfect end result.
Wow ... Mitch sounds amazing! Great tunes smoothing ....
I love watching the delight on your face.
I LOVE watching people’s reactions to that performance.
There's a reason they got Grammies. Very deserved, my favourite a capella group. Thanks for reacting to them
Let's recognize the genius iof the original song first. Then the genius of the remake. Absolutely beautiful.
I feel the same way ,they are so good. I have almost all their CD’s 👍💖🇬🇧
Scott was the one in Hallelujah that held up the background bass while Avi (then, the bass) sang his solo part. This one has Matt, the new bass. Mitch and Kirstin always have a new look..
Great summary of necessary newbie info 😁 everyday I see a new reactor in amazed that there are people out there that haven't seen PTX.
They have 3 Grammy Awards. 1st was for their Daft Punk medley, which they recorded on a $400 budget, 2nd was for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, 3rd was for Jolene which they recorded with Dolly Parton
Loving these reactions. I’m on a PTX reaction video binge, and your channel has caught me
You will never be disappointed in PTX. You obviously love nuances, creativity and smart arrangements. They practice a lot and love what they do. True artists. Every song they do highlights their individual and collective talent. They also have a great sense of humour and a silliness that is fun and refreshing. Yes, you will enjoy the ride. 🤗
Hi Lukas, I'm SO glad you're reacting to Pentatonix songs! I love them and have watched a lot of reaction videos of them, but you notice and appreciate so much more than most reactors. I love your reactions, they seem to move you the same way they move me, but also more b/c I get to learn more about them by noticing what you react to.
VERY glad you're discovering them. Just subscribed.
Here are some other PTX songs I think will blow you away:
• Bohemian Rhapsody
• Daft Punk medley
• Love Again (an original)
• Evolution of Music (really any evolution medley)
• Can't Hold Us
• The First Noel
• Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
• Video Killed the Radio Star
• Let's Get It On
• Dog Days are Coming
Thx!!
Pure hedonic delight whilst watching your reaction to this wonderfully harmonic group Lukas. Always a thrill to share in your enjoyment and feel uplifted - music transcends all languages and touches your heart and soul. Always a joy , thank you.
Keep 'em coming! I need my regular Pentatonix fix through new eyes!
lol
great reaction!
and can we acknowledge what a great, sexy reactor he is?
PS. I've been a fan of your work for quite some time but it's sooooo cool to actually listen to you talking about stuff (in this case music)
ppzav :) Thank you for saying. More to come.
If you re-watch Hallelujah, you will see that Scott takes over the bass when Avi is singing his solo. He has incredible bass tones too.
If you watch closely you can see that Scott is singing the base part while the base is singing in any song that the base has a higher register solo.
FYI:
In music, the word is PRONOUNCED base, but it’s spelled BASS.
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 I don't really care TBH just wanted to get my point across. I've played French Horn for ten years but I don't think the spelling of base and bass is really necessary for a youtube comment. But have fun dude whatever floats your boat.
First of all you are the most handsom man I've ever seen and I love watching you react to music
Thank you!
I remembered when the original was recorded by Simon & Garfunkel, great for that era& well appreciated, , fast forward now a young 65 young old(lol) this by far is my favorite version , I just love how this group of young adults sing with their God given talent & by the way I love your reactions , on point!!!!
I would love to see your reaction to Disturbed's video version of The Sound of Silence! They give a visual interpretation of the song that is quite deep, stirring and soul moving! It seems to have so much meaning for these times right now!
I'm so glad you've found Pentatonix! I've been a PTX fan from the beginning and you're in for an absolutely fabulous ride as you tour their videos! Please continue to post your reactions to them! I love seeing your passion and appreciation of the videos you react to! It's fun experiencing them with you! You're great at this! Stay safe! 💜
MAGNIFIQUE !!!!! J' ADORE !!!!!
PTX fab, your reaction, fabulous 😘.
I'm a huge Pentatonix fan and love your reactions to their covers. Another group that sings a capella is Home Free. Their cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" with Avi Kaplan is amazing and I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
The way you described their harmonies... is why I feel they sound like what I imagine angels would sound like
Pentatonix they get me every time i listen. i mean there voices just hit you right in your soul. i cry every time i listen to them.
Mitch is a chameleon. He is a fashion diva, and is always changing his look. And queen SLAYS everything from simple, to a stache, to a mullet. He has the voice of an angel, and is pure perfection!
I love your reactions. It's awesome to watch someone new to the incredible talent of Pentatonix. Imagine, the John Lennon song, is a good next choice.
You've been sent the most popular recommendations. A fun one Pentatonix does is "Come Along". I hope you take a listen. They do a great cover of "Shallow". You're my favorite reaction video guy now!
MBB MBB I second those suggestions and add “gold” and “say something”.
Sooo many to choose from. I will add Radioactive (feat. Lindsay Stirling) to this list in addition to the above ones. That, along with Shallow and Say Something, showcase Kevin on his cello, which adds yet another dimension to their sound :)
Second to Come Along!
Come Along is fun-tastic!!
Come Along is SUCH FUN! And GOLD is phenomenal!
There are 2 songs that Mitch sings (only 2? Nah!), well ok, more than 2… but we Pentaholics will ALL agree that you have to watch the Live recording of their cover of AHA in Singapore (recorded on a phone or camcorder! Honestly)!
And their cover of Kiarra’s Gold!!
If you never liked PTX before, you will LOVE them after those. Perfect! 🤗🥰🤗
V the cover of, "Sound of Silence" by Disturbed. It's certainly not a capella, but it's possibly, the best version of the song that I have ever heard.
Nice! I love the sound of silence because of the message in it. I highly recommend looking at the cover by Disturbed. The official music video is amazing, but in my opinion the live version on Conan's late show is better.
Glad to see you made it back. I heard somewhere that sean????? is already preaching to you, trust me you are in capable hands. I also understand a little 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is in the works, can't wait.
Trying to spread the good word
@@sean1849 hey there! :)

Hello Lukas. It is such a joy watching a new "Pentaholic" discovering and appreciating the depth and breadth of their incredible talent. They are all brilliant and gifted in their own ways so prepare for a wonderful journey as you watch and listen to the sizable catalogue of their work.
They all have huge ranges and can cover for at least one other member of the group. And Mitch changes from day to day. So does Kirsty. The new bass is Matt.
Please listen to this song covered by Disturbed. Both the live version and Video version are wonderful! David Draiman is a true talent! Also listen to their song "Hold on to Memories".
I love that you hear every note,I do to,love your reactions ❤️
You should take a listen to this same song sung by an Australian group called Disturbed. A great rock version.
I love that in this song, we see everyone doing riffs and runs in parallel harmony. It's no longer just the soloist riffing -- they all can, and here, they all do.
Every one of these singers were classically trained. And because the "trio" have known each other since childhood, they are totally in "harmony." Yes, they definitely LISTEN to each other. In their documentary, they went crazy when they got really good quality earpieces, because listening to each other is so key. Loved your reaction!
Where do you read they were all classically trained? I thought Avi was the only one. Just curious. :)
Avi was trained in OPERA. But the trio studied music with private instructors for years before entering college, and they received a solid classical foundation. Of course they also studied musical theater and were involved in pop music groups during high school. But they all made all state choir, which requires a strong foundation in classical choral and solo singing. They weren't just self trained amateurs when they auditioned for the Sing Off, and they have often given a lot of credit to their voice teachers who gave them a strong start and good techniques which have contributed to their success and longevity. Kevin was a classically trained musician, not singer, but much of what a musician learns is applicable to voice as well.
Dear Susan N. First, I thank you for the review of the instruction/training of members. Luckily, reading comments from Pentaholics has given me some idea of their musical backgrounds. I made a mistake in assuming that classical music was only r
Sorry Susan V. My mistake was assuming that "classical" referred only to the operatic Masters that Avi was taught about as well as thinking that Bach and the famed composers, etc. we're the only ones that the Trio were trained in. I hope my explanation at least made some small sense. I truly appreciate all the info and your patience.
Susan B not Susan N!
I've been watching a lot of PTX reaction videos this quarantine time, and so far you're one of my new favourites! love your reactions!
Spaceydoodle thx so much
I’ve just subscribed to your channel, I too a, impressed by Pentatonics, their vocals and harmonies are wonderful.
Another artist that impresses me even more is Dimash Kudaibergen. He is 26 years old from Kazakhstan and
has a 6 octave range. If you would like to react to him, one of his first performances on the Singer in China was
S.O.S., I am sure you would enjoy it and be surprised.
Keep safe and well,

Love watching people discover the awesomeness that is pentatonix 💜
you did such a good job of describing Matt's presence in the group and what his purpose is. A member leaving has been the end of so many amazing groups and I am beyond grateful that this group has been able to find somebody that they can work with and enjoy having with them all the time as they work constantly. He is not there to compete with the former bass. He is there to be a bass singer and he is going to have his own style. I am a fan of Avi and that amazing voice he has, and I am a fan of Matt's own skillset.
very well spoken on your part.
Welcome to the Pentaholic fan base! Can’t get enough!! Currently in love with their original “Sing” and “New Years Day!”
Grammys earned for Daft Punk, Jolene w & Sugar Plum Fairies. All unique & equally amazing!!
I've always been impressed with that fact that they make most of the songs feel like they aren't a Capella! Just such a full sound, they are beautiful! Thanks for another great reaction! Love your genuine input! :D
My favourite reactor to pentatonix so far and you have only reacted to two songs, keep reacting and I think you will be as popular as them
dawn fox thank you for saying!
Just subscribed. I absolutely loved your reaction! It was like a mirror of how I feel listening to it. You should def listen to their cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
They really ARE incredible! And so far, I've not seen anything by them that wasn't done to perfection. I just discovered them a few years ago for the first time, and am now a huge fan. Thanks for reacting to this.
