    Nintendo's next system after the Switch 2 is their XR Headset and Mixed Reality gaming that will be their next big gimmick and that might hopefully show it with the Switch 2 both I really doubt it as its its own platform and its also a standalone headset to take on the Meta Quest 3 and its all in the latest Nintendo patents

    I am probably the only one who is not excited for the new console. If it is just another Switch, then how much better could it actually be. It is probably going to turn out like the Ds, a bunch of different versions of it but remaining the same thing with just a few tweaks. I will just do what i did with Switch and wait 2 years when the best version of it is out and there are games on it to play.

    The N64 actually did have a big gimmick, we just don't think of it as a gimmick because it became standard on all consoles (the analog stick). But remember, in Nintendo's mind the idea behind the gimmicks is to do something new and innovative and they absolutely accomplished that in a big way with the N64s analog stick and fully 3D games. The Gamecube's gimmick was the analog trigger buttons with a final digital click, which in that case I agree is a rather weak gimmick and actually made the system worse in my opinion because most games didn't even use this feature. On the other hand it made the controller feel clunky in all games.
    Another aspect of the video I disagree with is that the Gamecube didn't do well because it was just another Nintendo console and people wanted something different. I actually think trying to be different hurt Nintendo in that generation. For example, the reason the Gamecube did poorly was in part because it didn't include a dvd player which was a big selling point for the PS2 and also insisted on using those mini discs which held much less data than the PS3 discs. Combine that with the fact that at the time games that were considered "mature" and "edgy" were the in thing and Nintendo had developed a reputation for being "kiddy". Nintendo then launched a purple lunchbox, with no dvd capability, no online and no L1 side button for no conceivable reason other than wanting to be different. They also launched with no Mario and Zelda and had a severe lack of systen selling games other than smash melee which wasn't even available at launch. That's why the Gamecube did poorly, not because it was just another Nintendo console. If they fixed those issues I bet the Gamecube would have done far better, without the need for any gimmicks.

      Nintendo systems almost always have gimmicks;
      NES had the NES Zapper, Power Glove, and R.O.B. the robot gimmicks.
      SNES had FX chips gimmick.
      N64 had controller pak gimmicks.
      GameCube had the mini discs gimmick.
      Wii U had the tablet gimmick.
      DS had touch screen gimmick.
      3DS had the 3D gimmick.

      @@ChazStarkey-c3z For the NES, you can consider the D-pad and even the fact it was sold with two controllers as gimmicks. For the SNES, you can consider lateral buttons and mode-7 as gimmicks. For the N64, there's the 3-pronged controller with Z targetting. The most conservative product of all was probably the Game Cube, and it didn't work that well. Now I'm not really sure that "gimmicks" is the correct way to understand why Nintendo tries new things all the time. It's rather that they always want to propose new ways of playing.

    If Nintendo make a Switch 2 it will suffer the same fate as their other repeat consoles, Gameboy Color, Wii U, Gamecube, N64. They won't last long as just another tablet maker. Regardless of Mario or Zelda.

      @@ChazStarkey-c3z Right. The SNES was a repeat console and it was hugely successful. The N64 was something new and it was very advanced and innovative for it's time, the analog stick has become an industry standard. That was first introduced by the Nintendo 64. Fully 3d home video games didn't really exist before the Nintendo 64 either. The limited storage space of the cartridges held the Nintendo 64 back and it was less successful than the SNES.

    probably alot of gimmicks.. one thing for sure if this portable handheld ( i wish was a actual real console instead) is not a 4k resolution handheld then iam done with nintendo. so tired of ugly low res games on nintendo. i mean even Japanese Sony PlayStation is moving up to 8k now with PS6 & nintendo is still in 1080p & mostly below that from the 2006 days. nintendo is holding back 2nd & 3rd party games extreme badly just look at how bad monster hunter rise, shin megami tensei 5, Reynatis, Rain Code, & other games look even with a PS5/PC port still look like they were made for PS3/xbox 360. those games would have been looking next gen God-Like good like persona 3 reload & monster hunter world if they was all developed on PS5/PC first & then ported to switch later. even beyoneta 3, Astal Chain, & daemon x machina don't look that great. its 2025 like come on now nintendo it's time to get with the high tech powerful real console stuff already & stop holding back games and i don't even care about 4K60 because 4K 30fps is fine to me. i am still waiting for a realistic looking zelda game like the Wii U Zelda tech demo from 2012 = we all still waiting for that game nintendo. i have a feeling metroid prime 4 is about to be held back a lot as well omg bruh and this is coming from a 20 yr. old soon to be 21
    also just imagine a realistic zelda Ocarina of Time Remake in 4k that's rebuild from the ground up like how the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was or like those unreal engine 5 fan made videos..... that would look sooooooo nice! too bad that will never happen

      If it uses DLSS or an equivalent it might render games natively at 1080p and upscale to 1440p or 4K if needed when docked. If it has its native power between a PS4 or PS4 Pro (which is quite feasible considering the Steam Deck, which is already almost 3 yo, is equivalent to a PS4) it will be glorious for first party games, and it should be able to handle 3rd party games from the current generation without too much trade-offs.
      I don't think Nintendo will ever go back to having a home console in the foreseeable future because they remember all too well what happened the last 2 times they made a powerful system, and the last time they made a home console. N64 and Gamecube were both competitive hardware-wise compared to the competition but they sold quite poorly, especially the Gamecube (even if the hardware itself was great, the second most powerful console of the generation behind the Xbox but ahead of the PS2 and Dreamcast), and the Wii U failed hard (I personally think it's a good system, and the numerous Switch ports made clear its game library is very good). Nintendo is always more successful in the handheld space, and the Switch has proved it again after the DS and the Gameboy line successes.

      @@benjib2691 sounds great! i hope nintendo does everything they can to at least make the switch 2 (gawd awful name) to have somewhat very near 4k resolutions or at least upscale close to 4k like how PS4 pro did. i would even accept 1800p resolution for the switch 2 as long as the handheld can upscale most of all switch games very close to 4k as possible. especially the 1st party exclusive games for sure because Metroid Prime 4 needs it VERY BAD. i play PS4 PS5 for all other 2nd & 3rd party games as well as exclusive games too. lets all hope nintendo makes this possible which i know they can do it. if Sony can make 4k xperia phones (not really real 4k) then i know for sure nintendo can do the same with switch 2 as well
