Anello is alive and well and still making music in Bali, Indonesia. I've seen Shawn more than once and am proud to call him a friend. I saw him at 3 of 5 shows he played in MN in July of 2023. At 80 years old, he hasn't skipped a beat.
@HammockQueen Top 40 am radio was it in 1973. I believe there might have been what was called "progressive rock" on FM, if I remember the radio listings from the newspaper, but it was only for a couple hours, nothing like what FM turned into.
I would guess he’s playing an SG double-neck guitar. Angus Young I think exclusively uses the six-string only version and I’ve seen him live a few times. Angus is of course hilarious. But I’ve never heard this song before which might be surprising because, if I switch to nearly any channel, it’s rare I haven’t at least heard a song. I’m not sure if I like it or not as it’s not my usual cup of tea. As a matter of fact I can’t even really tell you what genre it is, after listening a couple times.
If you must classify him, his prime years (1970-1977) were one of the better fusions of folk and funk, veering off towards jazz by the end of the decade. Some of his best work benefited from arrangements by Paul Buckmaster, who was also contributing arrangements to Elton John at the time.
Playing a double neck why?? And chording on the six string neck? The same year that Zeppelin recorded The Song Remains the Same movie? Bizarre. Not exactly musical phrasing there on the lyrics either!
It seems like he’s pushing maybe some Indian ideas in this song. Maybe I’d like it better if there were a Sitar accompaniment? I’m not sure. I think the Beatles used a sitar on a song or two.
Worst performance with an EDS-1275 I’ve ever seen and completely unnecessary, since he never played the 12 string neck. Gonna need more Drugz & I think he already wasted them.

I sing this often. It sticks. I miss when we were all young
Omg that was so wonderful
Hadn't heard this in years! Guitar players sure had a thing for double necks in the 70s...
Massive fan of Shawn Phillips!
Must be from Texas.
@@MaryMerryKingOfTheWoodsIsHe Yes, he was born in Fort Worth!
A wonderful songwriter.
Honestly say I never heard this on the radio in the Summer of 73.
And why should it have been heard. HA!
@williambaxter4628 I agree, so it's a mystery how they made it on the Midnight Special!
I guess your FM stations let you down.

I believe Shawn was only big in Montreal and in the southern states
You know you've been on TH-cam too long when the thumbnail makes you think "A new Steve1989MRE vijeo. Nice!"
Alright, let's get this song out onto the stage. Nice, m'kay, lets first start out with Anello.
Anello peaced out after that last toot and you said I got a new song.... goes like this!
He’s got gorgeous hair, for sure!
Que gracioso!!❤😂😂

Shawn has always been unclassifiable... One of the most underappreciated artists in the business...

Shawn Phillips gave George Harrison his first sitar lessons
