      England had been in the midst of Civil War for 30 years off and on. Wars for which Henry VII was partly responsible. If an ad hoc and procedurally dubious court for fleecing nobles and commoners is something to crow about, then Henry can take credit for it. Henry VII's actions were highly unpopular and of course his son changed course almost immediately after his father's death. Henry's fundraising was rather similar to that employed by Charles I in a later period.

    • @jakemaund2496

      RenShiWu RenShiWu maybe too harsh to blame Henry VII for being such a miser. The war of the Roses was dominated by quasi kings i.e earl of Warwick. When his throne was so insecure from ambitious nobles, a strict method was probably best. In regards to Henry VIII making immediate changes to his fathers council is mostly true, he did execute Henry VII’s accountants but that seems to have been done to make him popular, in the long run Henry VIII’s reign could have been successful had he made the most of the great position he was put in by Henry VII.

Even by the time we get to Elizabeth I Shakespeare was still under pressure to make Henry VII look good.

    Henry VII is my favorite English King, loyal to his wife, a devoted father, and a strong ruler who ushered in an era of peace after the war of the Roses, he is unfairly demonized by those like Philippa Gregory and who view him as a monster much like his granddaughter Mary I (another one of my favorites). The Tudors are such a complex and interesting dynasty, it’s nearly impossible to cover any of their reigns in a few minutes, BBC did it in the 1970s with “The Shadow of the Tower” a ten hour miniseries that fully fleshes out the complicated man that Henry VII truly was. A ledger can be found, in British Museum I think, where the notary to the court records a visit by ship master Christopher Colombus offering his services with establishing lucrative colonies in India by sailing westwards... With the king's own note in the footnote: "Decided: No payment due"... Imagine that Colombus had been sailing on the behalf of England not Spain!

    Philipa Gregory is a fantastic fictional history author.
    But not anything to base your history on.
    Much of this is not factual but an interpretation based it seems on Philipa Gregory

    I highly recommend y'all to watch The White Queen and its sequels The White Princess and The Spanish Princess.
    The White Queen is about Elizabeth Woodville, who was the mother of Elizabeth of York.
    The White Princess is about Elizabeth of York and Henry VII life and marriage.
    The Spanish Princess is about Catharine of Aargon life.
    The shows are highly dramatized and somewhat inaccurate but they cover in detail the events covered in this video.

    • @beth7935
      @beth7935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Charles VI of France- grandfather of Henry VI, whose mental illness contributed to the Wars of the Roses. One of the best guesses for Henry VI is catatonic schizophrenia tho, rather than paranoid schizophrenia, but the genetic predisposition to schizophrenia may not be that specific. It's just interesting that there's a high likelihood Henry inherited his condition, whatever it was, from Charles.

    I disagree. Chi huangdi controlled all of China, ruling as a tyrant. He knew that everyone was out for his blood, so he never slept in the same castle twice in a row. He even made thousands of people make 8000 statues depicting soldiers, to protect him in the afterlife, and take it over.
