    I accidentally stumbled on this. Im a 40 year old man and wasnt looking for knitting info, and I know absolutely nothing about knitting, apart from what i learned watching my mum when i was a kid. Nonetheless, Ive just realised I have been almost hypnotically drawn in and watched 5 minutes in total fascination. Something frustratingly complicated being explained superbly and interestingly, I ended up watching the whole thing! Good video.

    Thank you, thank you! I was sent here by Nathan the Sockmatician in my quest for matching decreases. The gusset on my sock is so neat. It'll take a while for me to not have to refer back to you every time I need it because I understand quickly but things don't necessarily stay imprinted. Your demo is beautifully clear and the result makes me very, very happy.

    The ugly jutting ssk decreases on my socks always bugged the heck out of me, so I was really happy to find this video. No more annoying socks! Thanks for sharing this.

    Your tips and techniques are excellent! I've watched 4 of your videos and learned work-arounds for 3 of my pet peeves!! Note that one of my pet peeves had a two part video solution.... Simply the best!!! Thank you so much for sharing!

    (APPLAUSE!) BRAVO! Bring out two Oscars. Thank you. It is a beautiful solution, & reminds me of how little I understand my knitting. Slog on, please, for us slow-to-understand (me) knitters.

    Thanks for the clear and detailed tutorial! But it makes sense only if you are knitting in the round and most lace knitting is flat! Making 'hungry stitch' tight on a row in between an ssk row will be totally different if you are purling back across your flat knitting. Have i missed something??

  • @michaelmich6111
    @michaelmich6111 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant!I was thinking how is this plot going to resolve itself?! But just like a good story it had a twist in the end....or should I say untwist in the end! ....a clean SSK twisting the loop as a modification. As all good plots go, it takes some planning...okay enough punning, back to purling.

  • @bo816

    How to do this on flat knitting?

  • @sukubo313
    @sukubo313 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice. I wonder if this will work to tighten up the ladders when doing magic loop as well... I guess it's time to cast on some waste yarn and find out.

  • @doreensavoie4759
    @doreensavoie4759 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Absurd, and in a pattern, how is it feasible to know a row before where the ssk is? If you slip the ssk stitches purlwise, all good.

  • @ooohlaa13
    @ooohlaa13 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    hmmm is there a precursor to this instruction how you would normally do it because I don't have a clue what it is supposed to originally have happen ... so normally I would slip as if to K, slip as if to K, K and psso?? Dunno what you are setting out to do, I am experienced knitter who is over thinking this, I cannot see structure usually takes me a while to get mechanics. On my socks my tapering sides by the toe never match, one side nice and other side zig zaggy and I don't know what I am doing to get the ziggy messy part.

    Thank you...I love the skit. I'm doing a lace pattern that calls for k3tog and sssk. sssk is just hard to get nice and neat as the k3tog and makes the lace pattern not good looking. Any suggestions?

    If I'm doing a sleeve and only ssk every 6 rows do I do these instructions and final and then work to the next ssk? Genius.

  • @grumpyketchup

    Does the hungry stitch method work in patterns that require an ssk in every row instead of every other row? In other words, how important is the knit-thru-back step to the method? I'm trying to work the "Elijah" pattern by Ysolda Teague and she has many sections with sequential SSK rows. Thanks.

  • @57Soledad
    @57Soledad 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Let's see if I understood this correctly: This method only works if you're stitching in the round, I mean, with circular needles, magic loop or whatever, right? I don't see how it would work with stockinette stitch worked with straight needles. Please help!!

    Cat, as always, you are awesome. The result of the HS technique is beautiful. I usually have ripply legs from my 'typical SSK', and i suppose this will prevent that? I have yet to knit up a practice swatch of this, as well as the method of reverse-wrapping the to-be-SSK'ed' stitches in the previous round (your other video), but i hope to soon.
    in any case, i thank you for your video. Very well explained and executed. I appreciated the written, and even the skit helped cement the technique!

    I've never had a problem loose SSKs. Maybe a loose SSK is specific to Continental knitting and I don't knit that way.

  • @lissaplus3
    @lissaplus3 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mention that you will have done 1 1/2 rows. So does that mean that I need to work half my stitches again and make that the BOR? and then I will have casted on and worked 2 rows?
    How does that work when I have a pattern that states: CO, K 1row, begin increase rows?

    I can't try it because I don't have the problem, but I wonder if hungry stitches would help people whose cables and ribs have a "loose" left-side-of-the-cable-or-rib knit-stitch and "purling the next stitch the wrong way" isn't quite enough to fix it for them? Has anyone tried it, or used the "hungry stitch" for other purposes? If so I'd love to know how it worked for you.

    Am I missing something? If you are knitting flat, then to get back to the slipped stitch, you will purl back and will have "lost" the slipped st in the row below.
