Our new Prime Minister is also a planter - has plantations in Turkey and Brazil. He's (and his family) also one of the richest members of the Parliament (ironic, having in mind that he's a social-democrat). Moreover, his company (he's a shareholder) EMUS BMS is very much interested in better relations with China due to the nature of their products. All that makes him way too shady, iin my opinion, and he has way too much personal interest in certain Government's policies. To add to that, he never won a seat in a single-mandate constituency even though he ran quite a few times. So, not a very successful politician in general..
As we all know, social democracy is when you are poor, and the poorer you are, the more social democratic you become, and one you are the poorest, you become a communist. Communism is banned in Lithuania - and thus nobody here is poor.
In "bad times" Lithuanians elect Conservative Party (TS-LKD), and after life improves Lithuanians elect Social-Democratic Party (LSDP).. till next downfall :P
No. God was killed by the social democratic party after they made a deal with the devil, resurrected Mao Zedong and killed God. Godspeed, you are on your own, time to pull yourself up by your bootstraps
You dont have politicians that work for foreign enemy powers, appreciate what you have, please. Current polish governnent sells much of state companies to germany, stopped the nuclear power plant construction as well as new internetional airport construction, and liquidated central anti-corruption bureau. Can you even imagine this??? They dont want to Poland to be a comoetition to germanys influence in the region. Please, again, appreciate what you have.
It will certainly be downfall if we don't get progressive taxes and there won't be enough funds to fix all the bridges that are literally falling apart. There are more pressing issues than a culture war about russian singers - for example every fifth person in the country is in poverty, and here we are with your stupid ass talking about vibes
they're not too different to TSLKD (the conservatives) as they're both centre left ecconomically (supports rasing taxes) and are centrist socially. (there are many factions in both parties and the member vary a lot) it's just that the socdems have been critising every government decision past 4 years, so of course the ydidn't want a coalition with them
@@jeanivanjohnson Former Homeland Union minister of finance wasn't against introducing progressive taxation in some regards. I think he's refering to that.
@@eruno_ who? and, well, TSLKD progably isn't the most economically right-wing party(i think the most economic right-wing would be the freedom party), but they are still centre-right
Agreed, but I think even the consevatives in Lithuania are finally understanding that either you increase size of the budget, since it is proportionally one of the smallest in the EU, or Lithuania will legit fall apart. That is why they seem to not favor regressive taxation and other, more pro-business policy, not out of ideological grounds, but out of sheer necessity.
@@jeanivanjohnson i'm not sure a party that in power increased the size of government so much can be called right wing. yes they were for liberasation of electricity suppliers (as they followed EU recommendations) and allowed the private healtcare industry to flourish but they did as well want to increase taxes, introduce more progressive taxation (they couldn't make it only due to disagreements with coalition partners) and did raise spending, like on education where the budget got 2,5 times bigger in four years
For real, this Seimas with the antisemitic communists (or just national socialists), will be worse than the Seimas headed by Darba Parcija, everything is lost, Lithuania is over, pack it up.
Politicians are politicians, no matter the party. They will attempt to get away with as much as possible without getting punished... That said, I expect our new government to try and improve quality of life for our least well-off people. Absolutely no softening up towards Russia, we stick with our friends and neighbours and hold firm against the aggressor. No cozying up to communist swines, go full steam forward developing our partnership with Taiwan instead. No slacking in the defence spending. Continue onwards with pressuring foreigners to integrate while also creating and maintaining the means to do so. That's all I expect them to do. Easy. If they manage to make good with anything else, I'd be pleasantly surprised. 😅
Current government is very low quality: 1. socdems have made too many bad choices, often claimed opinions that are directly against Lithuanian sovereignty and continue to display poor quality politics. 2. Democrats could be the second best party, but it puts political game above moral principles and national interests. Too bad. 3. Nemuno desra is a result of impotent justice system. Its leader was proven guilty by constitutional court, yet he went through the gaps of the law to get back again. To any non-imbecile person such parkour stunts cause seething rage against the perpetrator and those who enable this. Zemaitaitis has always made a new party for every election. As did Grazulis and other russian assets. In general, socialdemocrats should be the number 1 political party of all time because being centre left best represents the society and levels the power balance from leaning to rich businesses. Socdems used to be the second largest party, but the very same Paluckas kicked out all the oldtimers (Linkevicius, Kirkilas etc.) and the remaining party had cut its influence in half. Today TSLKD (conservatives) reign supreme and absolute majority of educated people only have them to vote for (other choice being agro-business lobbyists the Liberals)
@@jeanivanjohnson last you mean point 3, or last graph? For p3. Search for articles or vrk listings for parties that zemaitaitis was running with. For last graph: i heard about paluckas kicking out the oldtimers in a podcast, credible person (was either Valinskas or somebody of similar opinion weight). As for liberals - let’s say some family members belong to the party.
If Paluckas would not have split off from the old guard of the party, upon their victory you would be writing a whole manifesto instead of just 3 points.
This government will get a lot criticism because its main goal is to increase taxes for the rich (as it was said in the video, everything else is negotiable and may quickly flip as socdems and other parties in the coalition often do) and the rich buys ads in the media which is very right-leaning in Lithuania, as oppose to generally more left-leaning media in Western Europe or the US. However, it is urgent for Lithuania to change its tax system as it suffers for the second-largest income inequality in the EU which is constantly growing (15 years ago, Lithuania was about in the middle). Plus, lack of collection of taxes from the rich leads to lack of finance to fund social security, health security, education and infrastructure which leads to further privatization of the services and bigger inequalities. When it comes to China, the LSDP mainly criticized the current Minister of Foreign Affairs for making decisions without consulting President or the EU and NATO allies, mostly for getting more likes on Twitter or invitations to some TV interviews rather than benefits for Lithuania and its citizens (recently, China introduced visa-free travel for Estonians and Latvians while stopped issuing visas for Lithuanian citizens). However, LSDP will not beg China to stop the Cold War and only negotiate if China approaches first, plus all the decisions will be discussed with the President and EU allies.
I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on this visa-free travel to China for Estonians and Latvians. It seems like a classic 'divide and rule' strategy from China. The idea is that now we can complain and say: 'Look, our neighbors can travel to China visa-free. You see? You need to be friends with them, and then things will be great.'
You know when you clean your room and step outside to see how it looks from someone else’s perspective, that’s how a lithuanian feels watching this video
Of course it will - CCP and russia shills have taken over. As things stand currently, Lithuania is *the only* Baltic country whose economy is growing rather than contracting.
While the new government does look far more professional and competent than the outgoing conservative-led government, they will need to prove themselves and deliver what they've promised. One of the main goals should be higher tax collection and state income which is essential for military financing, but also social security and road repairs which has become a huge problem over the past decade or so. Either way, I'm quite optimistic. The outgoing government was very weak and we need something better.
The last government was great. They got us through a pandemic and a war and got out with less debt. Then socdems come in and are already promising to borrow their brains out, as usual. It won't be horrible but I have no idea where you are getting that they are any more professional and competent than the outgoing group; they are already in multiple scandals even before starting work
@@linasdrauksas5419 Sadly, not a joke. The current government was exceptionally weak in terms of personalities and their professional competence. I don't mean political sympathies but solely professional credentials of ministers.
Might as well skip russian and learn chinese, think a little. But learning russian might help, you would better understand that folks on the street are shit talking you, since you can't stop telling everyone that you voted for the conservatives
