The Battle Of The Year has come a long way. Who would have thought that BOTY would go from starting out in 1990 in a local youth culture centre with 500 hard-core fans to an arena packed with more than 12,000 roaring spectators and b-boy crews from all over the world?
BOTY has grown massively -- and we have slowly realised our vision of developing the spirit of breakdance and creating an international event platform that allows B-Boys and B-Girls from all different countries to express their creativity in front of an ever-growing audience.

Very first battle between Korea and Japan in BOTY.
Since then, Korea and Japan have been facing each other many times.
1. BOTY 2003 Gamblerz vs Fireworks
2. BOTY 2005 Last for One vs Ichigeki
3. BOTY 2007 Extreme Crew vs Turn Phase Crew
4. BOTY 2010 Jinjo Crew vs Mortal Kombat
5. BOTY 2012 Morning of Owl vs Flooriorz
6. BOTY 2014 Fusion MC vs Body Carnival
I have to say, this battle was the most beefed up battle with tension between both sides. As time went by, all battles after this became more friendly and respectful.

Good to hear the Koreans have been more respectful over time. The Koreans around this era were super disrespectful to the competition, always acting like they won already. You're supposed to play to win, not write off the opposition like they don't exist.

Expression, Gamblers, Last For One during 2000s were well respected. So what are you talking about? The disrespectful ones during those times were the French, such as Pockemon Crew, Vagabonds, Phase T, where Pockemon with Lilou putting Korean flag on Brahim's ass in the routine, Phase T, especially Crazy Monkey and Lil Kev, acting like cocky lil shits trying to bag on powermoves of the Gamblers members when they can't pull off a powermove better than Gamblers. LOL.
This is the only battle where tension rose between Korea and Japan in bboying. Ever since this battle, Koreans and Japanese bboys were respectful to each other. Ichigeki vs Last for One, Extreme Crew vs Turn Phase, Jinjo vs Mortal Kombat, etc.

This battle just never gets old. Pity many of these 1st generation Gamblerz crew don't compete in battles anymore. I sometimes see Bruce lee and The end judging and Soul soy, Still in some showcases. Only one active is King So... But rest of them I can't see active in battles so sad.

Can someone explain to me what happened at 1:39 and at 8:01?
It seems to me that at 1:39 the fireworks bboy went to top rock at the Gamblerz area, then all of a sudden the rest of the fireworks crew got annoyed and jumped in. Then at 8:01 while the fireworks bboy finished his set, a gambler bboy was about to start but it ended up having some issues. Why was that? Also who was the guy in fireworks who had the cap and the dreads who climbed up the platform?
maybe his set wasn't finished and then he throw his fist at the korean, that got upset and the beef started.

Maybe, I'm just old but these dudes don't get the nature of actual b-boy dancing. They are doing gymnastics with bike helmets. That is why they all dance off beat and can't dance to a DJ. They killed the scene, that and crews like Jabbawockeez (and even Dragon House) going all commercial
Beeakdance is meant to be like this. Jabbawockeez does different type of dancing. It’s easier to do and easier to dance to the music. While bboy is way way harder. You won’t be able to pull their stunt even in 1 year period. I tried myself for 3 years and no where near as what they do. I gave up on 4th year. Bboying to the beat is another level.
