    I can't imagine you knew 3 years ago that this video would still be helping people but it helped me today! I'm tired of buying new work pants after tearing them and the embroidery hoop is brilliant. Fantastic video, well done!

    I have never sewed in my life. I used this to save several pairs of work pants. Sacrificed one old pair to save 4. All with holes in knees. Thanks!

    I have a lot of respect for people that learn skills like these because they want to do the right thing as often as possible, even if they can afford to take a shorter route to fix their problems. Thank you for the help!

    I agree. I think we should bring back mending, repairing, clothes and items to make them last longer save some money and perhaps give yourself the satisfaction of keeping these favorite items around for a bit longer.

    Well explained. Thank you. Been waiting for one of my daughters to pick this up to fix my work pants but im out of luck. Going to try some tonight. Detached back pockets is the most common issue. Haven’t found a good tutorial on that or how to start and terminate a stitch. Have a good day. Thanks!

    If you don't have all of this a simple needle thread & scrap will suffice. I'm definitely going to be picking up some of this I have been sewing without all of these tools for years. Just never really a patch usually always a seam or a tiny hole.

    I've only got one pair of denim pants for winter wear( I'm in tx and on the bus for transportation, the heat being a prob for 3/4 of the year, shorts are more needed than pants). My jeans are a thrift store buy that's about five years ago. When I bought them, they had minor tears, but were still warm when layered up. The 3 holes are much worse now and I was worried about having the funds to replace them ( I'm fixed income, my ssi chk barely covers the bills and I've had to resort to reuseable wipes instead of tp). I knew if I could repair my jeans, that would be the best option. I just wasn't sure about how to do that. I have a nice sewing kit, a messed up pair of Jean shorts I was going to reporpose, so on that I'm set. Don't have an embroidery hoop, but I can see I'm gonna need to get one soon. I don't have embroidery thread either ( never been able to do anything fancier than a cross stitch, but I hand sew for practical use quite well. I've altered my own clothes by hand before. It's not pretty, but functional). I'm not against going back over my stitching to reinforce it the way using embroidery thread would do. This video is a major help, and is gonna save my bacon, so thnx!

    Have you ever not whip stitched the actual area so as to leave it to look frayed after repeated washings?
    So, the patch becomes more of an embellishment to the frayed overlay!

    I’d love to see if you have any ideas on how I guess “reinforce” a pair of jeans in the leg/crotch area. Lol it sounds strange but the reason is because my thighs rub together when I walk so that’s where they tend to get ripped a lot on me. I’m talking huge holes. I was hoping maybe if I put a patch over that area maybe it would prevent the actual jeans from rubbing and wearing out? 🤔 just curious lol

    • @ThisLittleFarmhouse
      @ThisLittleFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, it’s a super common wear and tear area. For reinforcements I would add a patch to the back and do a few lines of the running stitch across the whole area.

    • @andrewsalazar98
      @andrewsalazar98 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about adding abrasion-resistant material like cordura or cotton-duck canvas?

    • @briandaaranda9735
      @briandaaranda9735 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if you still need this, but I've just repaired a pair of jeans using colored embroidery floss and darning over the areas that seem thinner (the denim looks almost white at the parts that need it).
      Honestly I've just sort of embraced visible mending as a way to say "yeah, they're worn and torn but that just means they have a history! They're my clothes!"

    How did you secure the thread to the needle? I rewatched it a few times but it looks like you just pull one end through then put a knot in the other end but then the thread would slip out!

    • @ThisLittleFarmhouse
      @ThisLittleFarmhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knot one end of the thread and then pull the thread through the fabric, leaving the knot on the inside. Just how you would when hand stitching. Hope that helps answer your question.

    Why embroidery thread instead of regular thread? Is it an aesthetic choice or a functional one?

    • @ThisLittleFarmhouse
      @ThisLittleFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The embroidery thread is thicker, stronger, and works best with denim. Also easier to demonstrate for a tutorial.
