Thank you. This is a beautiful lake that has no trails going to it. Also no trails on Yellowstone maps. I am guessing that some fly fishermen may go there some times but I have never seen anyone or seen people tracks.

Thank you Stan for showing us the depths of majestic Yellowstone National Park, a true pride for all Americans. I've done a lot of the hikes you did, and it is such a pleasure after 20-25 years to rediscover these places with the reverence you give to them.

Have you ever thought of writing a book? Your knowledge and experience with bears would make for a good read and would educate a lot of us in ways that would make it safer for us to be in bear country.

So true! It would be such a hit! Al the photos alone are so amazing! Stan goes by himself where others would not...always the chance of a grizzly behind the next rock or bush! The beautiful vastness of meadows and forests....paradise on earth! So far he has traversed safely with a good portion of luck thrown in, but there is no doubt his experience plays the largest part! The only thing I would ask Stan to do different if I had the power.... to make more videos! :)

Especially appreciate the maps and letting the landscape do most of the talking, now I discover your drawing too! Keep on creating

Hi Jack, it is also hot here. I was actually hiking in the Lamar area yesterday. Started at the Lamar ranger station and hiked north to the top of Frederick Peak off-trail. You can look down into Slough creek from there. It got very hot on the way back down. With all that hiking I didn’t see any animals other than bison. I am sure all the bear are either in the shade somewhere or very far up in the backcountry.

Stan, have you ever thought about hiking with another person? I for one would really feel it an honor to go on one of these hikes with you. Hiking alone, I might add, is slightly akin to a death-wish in some of the areas you hike through. There is just a tad, just a tad, of unwise assumption on these hikes; that the grizzlies are not going to suddenly decide to be opportunistic for an easy meal. Never-the-less, I am at Yellowstone every year and would consider it an honor to hike alongside you. God bless

  • @danelobe2524

Typically that's a great area for spotting silver tips, however elk have been scarce in that basin all summer. I think there just been to much human traffic for both species. The bears are higher up than 6600'. I was just over around Sugerloaf mountain last week spent a few days scouting for a client looking for his prized bird dog. Your a brave man Stan getting off trails in that area. I wouldn't recommend that type of adventure in known Ursus arctos hirribilis hunting grounds. I was curious but have you noticed the difference in color and shape of a lot of grizzley's now? I see two distinct species like there's a cross breed between inland Brown bears of Alaska and are old Sliver tips. Maybe my eyes are getting old. Some just look different to me.

I treat them like all the wonderful wildlife. Rattlesnakes always warn you when you get to close. I suppose if I actually stepped on one it would have the same reaction as a grizzly bear being stepped on. But I am moving slow and always looking so I have never had a problem with rattlesnakes.

In your opinion, what is the best off trail GPS unit to guide you on your hikes and then get you back to your starting point? Starting at a trailhead is nice, but not going to be fun if the lot is full of cars knowing the trail will be full of people. I like going off trail, but want the confidence with having a GPS unit and being able to return back either to the trail at some point in the journey or being able to navigate back to the trailhead completely off trail. Thanks!

“Where I could scare him”. Do you make your presence known so as not to scare him? Like when walking in dense cover or coming up a rise... I had an encounter coming up a rise with a large bolder blocking my view. Coulda reached down and touched him. Fortunately it was not a bear, but a buffalo in the woods. Coulda been a problem, but I didn’t let him know I saw him, never changing my gait. Other than a twitch of my presence, he remained still. On my return he rose at my sight and didn’t allow my passing. Always interesting to watch you explore parts of the park.

I love your videos of your hikes and I get that you want to take pictures of the bears, but I thought the safe way to hike in bear country was to make noise so they hear you coming and you don't come around a corner or rock and surprise them? I think in Alaska and B.C. Canada they tell you to wear bells and call out " hey bear" from time to time, for that reason?

    • @clairesyoutube
      @clairesyoutube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

he has said that he doesn’t do this because sometimes that brings bears to you and he doesnt want to disturb the wildlife. he says it would be like someone coming into your house and making a lot of noise, you wouldn’t like it so he doesn’t do it to the bears.

deancj1 He’s breaking every rule. Hiking with less than four, being quiet, going off-trail.... l love his videos but a high percentage of folks who get charged, mauled, or killed have been photographers, always looking for the elusive shot.

@@TheGrizzgirl I get it and don't disagree with you.....but, he knows what he's doing for the most part.

deancj1 Yes, he’s very knowledgeable about bears and his beautiful vids allow me virtually hike with him. I just don’t want would-be tourists to think this is the way to look for bears. We’ve been glassing and scoping for grizzlies every summer since 1994 and would have to say the average Joe Public is becoming less and less aware of how to behave in the wild and around wildlife. I look forward to his next video!

Do you ever worry about being CHOMPED on by a Grizzly?? You know that eventually it could happen. You are Brave and I love your videos but it makes me nervous just watching and thinking about it.

great video but saying u have to move quietly and carefully in an area known for grizzly bears is irresponsible....u scare a grizzly out in the middle of nowhere u might be their next meal..however, if u are a grizzly expert or u do this all the time that might be different...seeing the eagle was just majestic

Brian, you say “if u are a grizzly expert or u do this all the time that might be different”. Have you been to my TH-cam channel? I don’t claim to be an expert at anything but I hope I show experience by my body of work. Thank you for your comment.
