  • The New Balance SuperComp Trainer V2. A clear successor of the exciting and whimsical original. But for me and my feet and probably the small running minority, it was a step in the wrong direction.

I personally love the v2s. I traded in my Superblasts for them and glad i did. After about 50 miles, I also had a similar pain on top of my foot, however. It was obvious to me that as the run goes along the tongue bunches at the bottom, creating a wrinkle in the harder base material of the tongue and really hurt bad pressing on the top of my foot. I just remedied that by running the top row of the laces thru the tongue slot instead of the usual row. That way when you tighten your laces it keeps upward pressure on the tongue so it cant slide down and wrinkle. Problem solved. 170 miles now and absolutely loving them!

I am not personally convinced about these extreme high stack so-called super trainers. I personally use my actual marathon race day shoes for longer long runs (18-20 miles) which allows me to test their suitability for the actual race and Endorphin Speed 3 has just enough cushion for shorter ones. Personally, I still have my NB RC Elite v2 and that makes a great long run shoe.

For me they are absolutly AMAZING super trainers. I have about 60 miles on them and they are SOO versitle and cushioned for any run, ESPECIALLY at Threshold/Tempo or fast workout paces. Also I know you are a heel runenr, I tried to run heel strike with them and I love that feeling of super softness that cushions your heel, but when I use my normal mid/forefoot landing, it felt dull and harder at easier paces; But when I pick it up to like 5-6 minte mile pace, they felt like ALphaflys-rockets that propel you with so much responsiveness I am looking for in a supershoe. So i think the comfort is a little bit worse, but then the weight is absolutely worth it for me and I had no problem with them just wearing cushioned nike socks. So overall it's a super versitle and fun shoe in my opinion!!! (although the durability is what I am worrying about)

    Hey Chris,
Nice review. About your goal of 1000 subs - here's a tip (and I have 63K subs so I'm not just another douche who has no idea what they're talking about...), so here's the tip:
It took you a full minute to start talking. That's 59 seconds too long. I know it sounds harsh but it's true... Something I learned from Mr. Beast, this is a direct quote:
"Titles and thumbnails set expectations, and in the very beginning of the video, you want to assure them that those expectations are being met."
If you click on a video and it doesn't seem to be what it was made out to be, at worst, you'll click away, at BEST, you'll skip to the part of the video you want to watch. Again, it sounds harsh but we don't need to see B roll of the shoes and you running for 60 seconds. We've got the whole video to see that stuff (that's why it's called B roll... it goes over the sound of your voice).
Get into every video IMMEDIATELY and you'll see a kick up in views, I promise.

SC V1 is amazing. I was looking forward to V2 but have heard mixed reviews. I was also looking forward to hoka mach x, but have seen terrible reviews.

Yeah, unfortunately I’m in both of those camps. The Mach X isn’t a disaster by any means, it’s just not what I had anticipated.

The V2’s are in my steady rotation… Saucony EndSpd3… Puma deviate nitro, Boston 12…

I find that v2 runs a bit wider and longer in size. V1 is the opposite. Maybe go half-size down and see if that makes a difference.

I have the version 1. I don't have any ankle issues like many people stated. But my issue is the same problem you are experiencing with v2. My v1 i took for a handful of shorter runs. Then took out for 15 mile and had the hot spot on the top of my left foot..

Yeah I’m thinking the tongue just moves around a bit and bunches up over time. I usually righting the laces down quite a bit for a solid lockdown. This one just hurt. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m waiting for mine to arrive. Did you buy it in wide? I did, NB 10/44eu wide usually fit my feet well. Hopefully that will avoid that top rubbing issue for me. Thanks for the review.

I didn’t buy them in wide, and I did have the lockdown pretty tight, so both could have led to that upper pain I dealt with.

Where exactly on the top of your foot did you feel that pain? About 30 miles into the shoe, I felt a pain on my first metatarsal closer the the big toe. I thought I might have fracture my foot.
I’ve looked everywhere and haven’t found anyone who felt similar pain until this video. I’m wondering if it’s the harder material on the interior portion of the tongue?
Just seen the portion where you described the tongue issue

Yes, I felt the pain across the metatarsal area of my left foot. I usually use a runners knot to keep the lockdown tight, and I think this is a shoe that you shouldn’t use that particular tie down. I’ve never had that issue since.
