Have any of you tried the challenge??!
Also.. yes I know about the milk... I don't like drinking it and would much rather stick with the water and the heat

I have a couple of these sitting in my pantry. I like to add a fried egg and never use the whole sauce packet (literally a 1-2 tbsp). Delicious when my mouth isn't on fire!

I loved these but you have to add some stuff to it. I like some pork belly, mushrooms and green onion with it

Use sugar to cut the heat. It’s the sugars in the milk that help.

Totally did it. Accidentally did the 2x spicy one for the first time ever, much like you did. Oops. Thank goodness the challenge isn't timed. It took me an hour..possibly more LMFAO
Btw, it's really good with mozzarella cheese (not for challenge purposes)

The holy trinity of cutting spice are carbohydrates, casein, and fat. (And cold helps a bit, too.) Capsaicin is somewhat soluble in fat, which helps wash it away; carbs basically scrape the capsaicin off your tongue on a microscopic level, and casein helps coat your tongue to keep the capsaicin off. (And cold numbs the pain receptors.) These are all found in milk, yes, but also in ice cream, and the carbs and fat (and cold) in greater quantities. When your mouth is burning, eat ice cream.
(And if it's really bad, use mouthwash. Or vodka, but treat it like mouthwash, don't swallow. Capsaicin is not very soluble in water, but very soluble in alcohol, so it can help to wash it out.)

I ate a whole 5 pack of the original noodles back when it was a popular challenge. They were very hot, but I enjoyed them aside from the novelty aspect. Of course, once I made chicken paprikash and accidentally used cayenne pepper instead of paprika, and I still thought it was pretty good, so my heat tolerance is probably a little above average.

  • @spudd86
    @spudd86 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Fun fact, those noodles are based on another Korean thing called Buldak or in English "Fire Chicken", usually served with melted mozzarella cheese over it. It's a relatively recent thing, created by a restaurant chain, but it has spread and become a popular thing.
Basically imagine chicken in that same sauce, only hotter (one recipe I saw called for capsaicin powder). The cheese is to make it edible.

If you ever go to a Korean market and can find Cheongyang peppers (청양고추) from Korea, those are a really popular go-to spicy pepper for our cuisine! I would recommend.

I’m really impressed with you for having the courage to even try.. I counldn’t believe you finished them. I was hurting just watching all the spicy ingredients you put in it. I cant’ handle spice at all so you’re my hero about now. I was yelling “drink milk not water” at my device. You have one of the best channels on You Tube. I’m always excited to see new content coming out. Right now I’m just going back and watching all your older content I haven’t seen and its all great but I can see your progress and its just wonderful.

Great video. I loved to eat those noodles while living in Korea... sometimes it takes a minute to get really hot too.
Many koreans taught me that to make the noodles hotter, after you drain the water and add the suce, you should fry them a little.

I'm dying!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This reminds me exactly of the time my ex and his college roommates decided to make chili having never actually cooked. They went to the grocery store and just bought a couple of every hot pepper they had and a number of powdered spices. GREAT idea! I just sat back and said nothing lol. They kind of chopped them or rather mutilated them. Then they threw them in AND all of the seeds and just dumped a couple cans of some crappy beer into the "chili". Well, obviously it was way too hot and probably tasted awful. I wasn't about to try it! I like spice but not just pain. Them trying to pretend at first that it was actually good AND they could handle the heat was classic. The kind of men who do not like to admit they are ever wrong haha.

It never gets old to watch someone who isn't used to heat guzzling water thinking it is going to help. I can't stand drinking milk either. I've only eaten something that was too hot for me a couple of times, but I always have Greek yogurt in the fridge and that helps. I've also noticed that cold, strong coffee kills the heat pretty well also.

Capsaicin the compound in Chilies the causes "heat" is fat soluble as such it is essentially an oil. Water only spreads it to "quench the heat a fat based liquid such as whole milk or better butter milk works much better. After 35 years in the Mexican food industry I've had to wash the eyeballs out with milk more than once due to an accidental splash.
