The fcp version looks so impressive 😧👍🏻👍🏻😄 btw I didn’t know that the stabilization feature is new in luma , I recently edited some drone footage from a frozen lake and forest around it in winter and mirrored it to look like some scenes from a Christopher Nolan movie it looks impressive 😄
Of all the examples Final Cut did the best job. I’m a Davinci Resolve Studio user and their stabilization is decent. I know from experience that the stabilization on my iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn’t play well with the anamorphic lens. I use a gimbal most of the time but still need to stabilize the footage occasionally. Anamorphic footage is not easy to stabilize from my experience.
Great comparison. I have found the LF stabilization has difficulty with a number of special case scenarios, notably in stabilizing Hyperlapse and timelapse shots. On an unrelated point, I wonder if you had the coremelt plug-in for FCP, would the XML transfer from LF to FCP maintain the stabilization plug in settings?
Yeah that seems to be the case on tougher scenarios for me too. The XML export only currently sends the basic edit info so no effects are included. Maybe that might change in the future though. Thanks for watching!
Honestly, and although I love Luma Fusion, I must admit that, in my opinion, this new stabilization tool, , has disappointed me a lot. I hope they can improve it in the future, because today it does not seem like a tool that reaches a really acceptable level of quality.
Thanks for the Cinematch video. I see you had to disable comments, unfortunate. Looks like it’s available for Resolve as well. Do you think they will do a FCP version too?
Oh weird, I’ve been out of town and didn’t notice that. Must’ve been an error I will turn comments on. Thanks for letting me know! I think they will have it for FCP though eventually.
The beginning of that Lumafusion stabilization is odd. I wonder what would happen if you duplicated the first 20 seconds or so in the timeline and stabilized it again. Really does seem like a bug 🐜 thanks for the video
Because that would be too smooth. :) Will likely do a follow up though using gimbals and more normal “bouncy” situations to try and work with LF stabilization.
@@iphoneographers please do. I would enjoy seeing a scenario where someone is taking a casual “tourist/walking around family event” type of walk with a gimbal and then stabilized in FinalCut or Luma. It seems to be the common scenario with most phone use. Thank you.
Haven’t used it a whole lot yet, but overall I find it works fine for more normal situations. But definitely still trial & error to find it’s strengths (and weaknesses).
Not sure yet working on some other tests and will likely do a follow-up. Adding more to the beginning of the shots to see if that helps too. Seems like a bug on the more extreme shots.
Final Cut is so not even in the same ballpark, on LumaFusion it is so wobbly I'd rather look at the shaky footage! - the Final Cut version looks like a gimbal.
@@iphoneographers yeah. But the output doesn’t look any different when I toggle it on/off. Maybe it’s a bug. It worked with a different clip along with the wobbly artifact you showed in the video.
After watching these results, in my opinion the only decent stabilization for such a shaky footage is the FCP. All the others are simply too much wobbly and deformed.
FCP looks the best. All did a good job stabilizing that source video. The reduced warp / warble makes a big difference.
Yes, agreed.
Final Cut continues to impress me. Great video. Thank you!
Man that FCP footage is buttery smooth

Yeah stabilization is brand new in the recent 3.0 release.

Yeah anamorphic can cause some warpy looks by itself and then adding that to stabilization it can get funky if you’re not careful.
Great side by side comparison. Thanks.

@@iphoneographers have you sent feedback to LF about the bug at the start of the stabilized clips?

Why is it impossible to upgrade to 3.0 version? I have IPad Air 3, 14.3 soft.
Not sure. Most devices are supported, but some features do require USB-C to work. Might look at LF support… luma-touch.helpscoutdocs.com/
Final cut. Like to understand the advances features more in LumaFusion. Blake, if you could help with that I would greatly appreciate it.
Might do a detailed tutorial on it the LF stabilization soon-ish. 👍🏻

Was considering extending the beginning of the clip too. Doing some further trials and investigation.
Ok, Blake, I have to ask: why weren't you using one of those many iPhone gimbals for your video?
Because that would be too smooth. :) Will likely do a follow up though using gimbals and more normal “bouncy” situations to try and work with LF stabilization.

I haven’t found the Stabilizer in LumaFusion to be very useful.

I’m wondering about the rough start in LF. Have you tried trimming off the rough part? Does the remainder start rough again or is it smooth?

When I turn on stabilization in Lumafusion, there seems to be NO change! :(
Does it analyze the shot?

True. They are to a large degree but FCP is the exception, not the rule. Those are of course pretty extreme shaky scenarios, too.
Fitst!
