Great vid! Flex is such a nebulous but also critical characteristic for a board. Thanks for sharing some knowledge!

Flex is determined more so by the layup compound surrounding the core ie Biax fibreglass, Triax fibreglass, integration of carbon weave, carbon stringers/rods, carbon I-beam etc. Varying the positioning of these will effect the softness/severity of the response and flex at these reinforced points along the boards length.
Examples; swallow tails generally will have a carbon rod/beam to stiffen up the thinner area for flex due to the loss off laminated surface area from the core cutout. Carbon I-beam boards tend to have an aggressive response and have far less tip chatter due to a longitudinal stiffened beam from tip to tail but easier to torsionally flex. A board with full carbon cross weave integrated over triax glass in the layup will spread a balanced stiffness over the entire length and width of the board but generally won't be as longitudinally stiff as an I-beam laminate. Carbon rods can channel a stiffened response in the angles of their placement. Snow skis generally use very thin layers of Titanal/metal in layup to increase stiffens on the higher/pro level models.

Is it just me or have you noticed wider versions of a board are harder to manipulate torsionally?

They can be, more material in the width = more material to manipulate

I’ve been watching your videos since I started riding last year and just now noticed you live in the valley lol hopefully I see ya on the mountain!

@ I’m a buttermilk and snowmass enthusiast until im good enough for highlands and aspen😂 I do have a question for you though! Last year was my first year riding and I have 60-70 days on mountain at this point and I got a doa at the end of season last year and find it to be still too stiff for my ability. Should I just stick with it and progress with this board or get something softer and get my fundamentals honed in.

Great video! I saw that you ride the spring break resort twin. Did you also try the indoor survival and can give me your opinion how they compare flex wise?
I love the indoor survival but sometimes I feel that the tips are a little bit too soft. Not the entire board, but just the tips. Any board recommendations which has the same or better pop and park / all mountain capabilities but only slightly stiffer tips? I was looking at the Rome agent pro or the yes the greats, maybe you also have some opinion about these boards :)

Thanks for the info! Comparing flex to loose skate trucks makes it easier for me to understand since I grew up skateboarding. I currently ride a homies older capita that is 155 and stiff (he is also 6"3) I am 6" and 140 lbs. It is a bit much for me. If you have any recommendations I would be very grateful. :)
I am currently looking at a burton instigator or the nitro some kind of nitro board.

Getting back into it after years away, flex is what I’m hung up on. Looking for a true twin on the softer side of medium. Something between a jib board and middle of the road park board. Playful and pressable but still decent to ride the whole mountain. I keep coming back to the SB resort twin but I’m worried it’ll be stiffer than I like. I really like the hybrid camber as well. Last board was a horrorscope fk and I loved that at the time but want something a little more stable & precise now. Any other recommendations or should I go with the resort twin? Thanks so much!

I've been loving riding the Resort Twin everywhere and I think you'd love it. You could also check out the Salomon Assassin

@ ended up going with the Rome Party Mod. Flat/rocker but should be a bit more stable & precise than my old horrorscope. Last few decks have been Capita’s this will be first Rome. Just felt like a bit less of a gamble with profile, flex, ect. Getting back into it after almost a decade off due to a motocross injury. If I get back into like I think I will I’ll probably pick up the resort twin next season. Thanks for the feedback and the vids are awesome, really helped me refresh the knowledge & pick all new kit for some one who hasn’t followed the sport in years. 🙏🏻

I’m looking for a snowboard that rides like the Capita DOA as far as how fun and poppy it feels but floats better in pow. What would you recommend?

Check out the Salomon Assassin Pro, I loved riding that twin in powder. Spring Break Resort Twin is great too

I got the black snowboard of death for this season to replace my entry-level nitro shield venti from 2008! The bsod is way waaay softer than that beginner board i got for cheap back in the day. Is this normal? Shouldn't a all mountain charger board be way stiffer then a beginner board? has the philosophy changed that much in the last years or is my bsod busted?

    • @SearchofSnowboarding
      @SearchofSnowboarding  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

No, what it is is that boards from that era were stiffer and burlier. BSOD is a great flex for all mountain riding boards on the market right now

I'm triggered about testing the flex with your forearm and you hand just regularly holding it is the same shit maybe for weak ass people that can't get the full flex like a kid should hold it with their forearm
