    It might be a unusual question, but according to a fact that "piacere" is a verb - is there any grammatically correct construction where you could possibly use the verb in forms like "io piaco, tu piaci..." etc?

    Thanks! I'm fluent in Spanish which definitely helps me. There are a lot of differences but many basic structures are similar. Piacere is exactly like gustar.

    • @christopherpaul7588
      @christopherpaul7588 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, so if you say the thing the person likes you don't have to use the indirect pronoun? In Spanish for example you would say: A ti, te gusta... Is it wrong if you keep the pronoun?

    • @tobikrutt
      @tobikrutt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I too speak Spanish and just began learning Italian, and noted that there is in fact a significant difference between Gustar and Piacere, which surprised me. In Spanish, if you are naming the subject (Stefano likes pizza) you must still include the pronoun in front of Gustar, i.e."Stefano le gusta la pizza." And though you can add an "A" at the beginning ("A Stefano le gusta la pizza) - it's not necessary. It can be added for emphasis or clarification, but it's not required. Whereas according to this video, in Italian, if the subject is named (Stefano) then the pronoun is NOT used, but "A" MUST precede the subject's name.

    • @christopherpaul7588
      @christopherpaul7588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tobikrutt You have to add the A at the beginning in Spanish. You can say either Le gusta la pizza OR A Stefano le gusta la pizza.

    The mi/ti/vi etc. Now make sence - in short (per farla breve) the reason we use those is because they mean - to me/to you and the verb means - to your liking/to my liking-. If it was Sono/tu etc. Its just wrong as it would be something like - i am like pizza. You guys it took me two and a half hours to figure it out. 😂

      I am to liking pizza° or something messed up similar. That's why it's Mi Ti etc. ❤ Like in English it would sound wrong to say - I are not have dog. You'd say - I have/don't have a dog. I like dogs. Etc. Darn it's so simple to understand but people just don't explain it well. You did an amazing job.

      "Gli" è singolare, ma viene usato anche per il plurale. In realtà la forma corretta per il plurale è "loro" ma nel linguaggio informale non è molto usato. Se però a scuola scrivi "gli piacciono i film d'azione" per dire "they like action movies", l'insegnante di italiano lo segna come errore 😊 q

      Ciao Andrea! Bravissima! Let me make some corrections:
      - Mi piace “il” caffè (you need to add the definite article here
      - Mi PIACE guardare i film (since you are using the verb guardare, that is a single activity you like, you need to use piace. Think it this way: “watching movies IS pleasing to me”, that’s why you need the singular “piace”)
      - Alla mia amica Amelie piace sciare/piacciono i gatti (you need to add the definite articles)
      - Ti piace cucinare? (Correct) and sì, amo cucinare!
      Bravissima!

      @andrealaraus1082 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teacherstefano Grazie! Argh that definite article gets me sometimes! Thanks for the reminder.
      So, what I had been attempting to say was "I like watching movies - so in that case, would it still be singular? Or if I used it in the plural would that imply that I like watching multiple movies at once?

    • @teacherstefano
      @teacherstefano  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definite articles are the worst!! You’ll get used to them at some point though, no worries! Anyway saying “mi piacciono guardare i film” is actually wrong because the action of “watching” is still singular no matter how many movies you watch. Thinking it in English this way might help:
      - Watching a new movie every night IS my favorite activity.
      - Watching 2-3 movies every night IS my favorite activity.
      As you can see, no matter how many movies you are watching the action is still singular. That’s why you would still use “piace” in Italian, because you choose “piace” based on “guardare” not “film”.

    • @andrealaraus1082
      @andrealaraus1082 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teacherstefano Grazie - that helps a lot.
      To recap: I could say Mi piacciono i gatti. But if I said I like petting my cats, since petting is singular, it would be Mi piace accarezzare i miei gatti - is that correct? And please forgive me if I didn't choose the best word for petting, I looked that up just now.
