Mr.Napolitano is one of the best math teachers I’ve had. He makes sure all his students understand the topics by taking the time to help when needed. He is such a fun teacher and he is really involved with his students.
Thank you so so so much for the feature, Simon. I am ABSOLUTELY FLOORED by the title of this video. I cannot wait to watch your solve; I will comment my thoughts afterwards. Woohoo!
This channel has been such a huge part of my life since Covid. I started making puzzles this past summer and to see you and Mark solve them on the channel is a dream come true. I am a high school math teacher in NY and you can bet one of the first things I did was send my students the link! I am getting many emails already from them saying they commented 😂 *Just finished watching. I am so glad you liked it Simon, I will be bragging about this forever!
Wonderful puzzle. Haven‘t watched the video yet, but the way things unravelled in my solve, causing unexpected roping and disjointed pairs was really pretty. I‘m not entirely sure I followed the intended path, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Took me around 70 minutes to solve though (well, I‘m a bit tired, it‘s been nearly 1am in Germany when I started, so that might excuse it). Your students can really be happy to have a teacher like you, who obviously possesses the rare talent to create more than just plain syllabus - I had two of this sort in my time, both of whom I hold dear to this day (I graduated with Abitur in 2008 - it‘s a bit hard to locate to the US system, Abitur is somewhat more than a high school diploma, but not entirely comparable to an undergraduate). One has started my connection to the English language when I was only about 10 (5th grade in Germany), the other was the best maths and economics teacher (and all around the best pedagogues ever had). Good teachers are a blessing (as well as bad ones can cause life-long disconnection from their respective subject - for instance, I still can‘t really connect to classic German literature, as strange as that may seem). In short: Thank you.
Wow… what an awesome creation by my Algebra 2 teacher Mr.Napolitano. This is not shocking due to my teacher being one of the smartest math teachers I’ve come across throughout my school years. Keep up the good work Mr.Nap😀
Lovely to see the positive comments from his students. Fifty years ago, an algebra teacher mentioned the Fermat two-square theorem to me, and it was probably the moment that led to my studying math[s] rather than modern languages at university, and ultimately a rewarding career as a freelance software developer. Thank you, inspiring teachers everywhere.
In the latest video from yesterday Mark reassured everyone that Simon is fine. And we are all fine since we are still getting content 😅 (Live your life Simon!)
Mr.Napolitano is one of the greatest algebra teachers to exist. His teaching is so great it only takes a day to perfect multiple topics. ( He’s also great at sudoku )
Mr. Napolitano is my Algebra 2 teacher, he is amazing. He has patience with our class even when we are talking non stop. He makes sure we all understand the lessons and offers test corrections if we score low on a test. I am very grateful for Mr. Napolitano.
Mr.Napolitano is actually my Algebra 2/Trigonometry Teacher 😁. He is an amazing teacher who helps his students explain math topics as well as being extremely patient. Keep up the good work Mr.Nap!! :)
Hello my teacher is Mr.Nap. He is the best algebra 2 teacher I’ve ever had. He takes the time to help students to understand the topics. He is a very funny teacher and I always look forward to his class.
Wow! This is my algebra 2 teacher’s puzzle. I didn’t know he had an interest in suduko grids I am intrigued now!! Mr. Napolitano is an awesome math teacher and as one of his students he really helps us out and the resources are infinite for tests, quizzes, etc.
Mr.Nap is my favorite teacher. He gives you that one on ine time to make sure you fully understand the material. He keeps the classsroom engaged and lively.
Mr Napolitano is my Trigonometry teacher & he allows me to enjoy learning math. He makes it easy & gives help wherever it’s needed. He makes us feel comfortable to ask for help & not feel shy or as if we’re falling behind. I’m very appreciative of him.
mr. nap is my algebra 2 teacher and hes awesome and a really funny guy!! i love drawing his dnd characters and seeing how creative he is with each character he gives 👍🏽 overall, great teacher and i’ve understood everything he has taught me as soon as he teaches me !!!
YOO Mr nap is my teacher he’s actually one of the best math teachers I EVER had!! Also a great dungeon Master, paying dnd is so fun! Loved this video so so calming
I finished in 42:55 minutes. This was an absolutely beautiful puzzle. The way the negative constraint worked was so pleasing. I think my favorite part was seeing that the 23 pair that flanks either side of 678, such as in box 7, always had to have a 6 between them. That was my favorite part until I started coloring the 23 pairs and the 78 pairs and started playing keep away using the X rule. That was so satisfying to do. This has to be one of my favorites. Great Puzzle!
What an outstandingly beautiful puzzle! Cleverly crafted and such a fun watch. We need more videos of solving Mr. Napolitano’s puzzles in the future. Bravo to you Simon and bravo to Chris!
At 24:00 the deduction I found that made it easier was that the V in box 5 was a 0/5 pair. The 0/5 pairs in boxes 7 and 9 are off the negative diagonals. This means that there must be a 0 or a 5 on both of the negative diagonals in box 5 and the only way that can happen is if the V in box 5 is a 0/5 pair.
Yes. Would have saved a lot of complex coloring, that's why Simon found this puzzle quite difficult while according to the ratings most people (including me) didn't. When you just ask for the placements of the 0/5, 1/4 and 2/3-pairs, it is pretty straightforward. I used two colors (0-5, 678), and when I found the symmetry of the 0/5-pairs, added a third, and could easily run through the entire puzzle.
Mr. Nap is my algebra teacher and when it comes to math he know how to do his job very well and explain the problems so that his students will understand it.
It took me almost twice as long as Simon to finish, but I did it! Another puzzle that I would not have even tried 2 or 3 years ago, but with all the tips and tricks I learned from the channel, I gave it a go and kept at it piece by piece
Mr. Napolitano is like, the coolest guy like totally ever in the history of coolest guys! He’s my math teacher ~ :) Math is always a blast because Mr. Nap teaches it!
You solved this way more cleanly than I did, but I still found this an amazing puzzle. It's interesting how we found the same deductions, just in different ways. Such a phenomenal creation, and I hope we see much more from this creator.
I love when a constructor can take rules that may seem like a groaner at first glace (0-8 and a negative constraint in this instance) and turn them into something magical in a wonderfully set puzzle 🙂(TLDR: don't judge a sudoku by it's constraints)
Mr.Napolitano is the best teacher. He delivers the information he’s teaching well, keeps everyone intrigued and maintains a smooth and great vibe classroom.
I actually thought "I wonder if the negative diagonal counts as a renban since it is purple", and then I decided, yes it certainly does, but so does the positive diagonal.
I'm proud to say it took me 38:20 though I fully admit there was a lot I missed without the helping hand of Simon's guidance and humour through the journey. Absolutely loved this brain melter and hopefully I've learned a few things and my extreme joy of colouring puzzles aren't for naught
Mr Nap is my favorite teacher and he does an excellent job teaching my class. He gives multiple opportunities for students to succeed and he’s very fun !
mr.Napolitano is my trig teacher and he makes learning math so easy and getting help when needed is really accessible i couldn’t ask for a better math teacher honestly.
36:54 finish. Had a major snafu in the middle of this one. Once I identified the roping, I made the (mistaken) assumption that the roping was consistent throughout the puzzle (the same numbers on each rope every time). It caused a pretty big rewind, but I was able to adjust and finish things off. An excellent puzzle!
Loved it because I saw all the roping coming fast and just took more time than needed because I didn't appreciate the consequences of the negative constraint. The absence of V-pairs in box 7.
I love that you are sticking to the upload schedule. I hope you get well soon Simon and all of you who read this have a lovely holiday season and a great 2025
I got towards the end and ended up with a deadly pattern of 2-3 and 7-8. After staring at it for well over half an ahour, I broke down and solved it by random chance. Not until watching Simon's solve did I realize I'd been so busy looking for something complex, I simply didn't see the renban in box four!
I much more enjoyed the "pencilMARK" approach. Pencil ALL the vertical roping in ALL the columns. Pretty easy to see. Then look at the third and fourth digits on the negative diagonal - is a 78 pair. So 2-3 is gone from the touching neighbors. Then 6 can't go with 4; use neg. constraint, etc etc. This flowed very well, great puzzle, Nap!
Great puzzle! Exactly what I like about searching for a right place for a right digit. For me central V worked out from 05 being out of both diagonals in boxes 7 and 9, thus each diagonal would need a 05 digit from central box, and this could be done only from central one being 05.
27:41, slowly pencil marked before seeing where the negative constraint was doing it's work. Felt like a fast start, then slow progress, but I guess I never really stopped and am happy with the time.
Mr. Neapolitan is my English teacher (I’m on my brother’s account, this is Isaiah), and he teaches me a lot of stuff about math, albeit I’m not the best at it, so thank you Mr. Nap
You solved the puzzle, the solution is correct, and I put into it just some numbers. After 45 minutes I said screw that, put 1 there 5 there, then I found 5 can't be there and placed it correctly and at 54 minutes I was done.
OMG! That’s my teacher Mr. Nap and he is prob the nicest algebra teachers i’ve had so so far. He is incredibly patient and will not leave you confused in a lesson. I knew he was an incredible sudoku nerd, but i’d didn’t know it was that bad😭 (dw sudoku rocks).
At 36:22 I don't understand Simons point at all. Can someone please explain? Maybe it has something to do with the orange-green-red combination in row eight in box nine? I think Simons deduction is right but he is not very good in explaining his point there.
At 33:00 could you have figured out red because of the diagonal red/black square being pencil marked as 6/8? Since you already knew black was 6 I think that would’ve meant red was 8
I don't think that that deduction is correct and it seems to be an interesting pitfall of the coloring method. The constraints at this point are: - The r3c7 cell is either the black or the red digit. - The r3c7 cell is either a 6 or an 8. - The black cells are 6 and the red cells are either 7 or 8. It can still be that red is 7 because this doesn't at this point create any contradictions; all statements can still be true. Hence we cannot conclude that red is 8.
It doesn’t happen often, but this time I think Simon’s instincts led him down a very difficult path. I never felt the need for coloring during the solve.
Mr.Napolitano is one of the best math teachers I’ve had. He makes sure all his students understand the topics by taking the time to help when needed. He is such a fun teacher and he is really involved with his students.

I finished in 42:55 minutes. This was an absolutely beautiful puzzle. The way the negative constraint worked was so pleasing. I think my favorite part was seeing that the 23 pair that flanks either side of 678, such as in box 7, always had to have a 6 between them.
Yeah I finished in 28:37 and had the same deduction.
Yes. Would have saved a lot of complex coloring, that's why Simon found this puzzle quite difficult while according to the ratings most people (including me) didn't. When you just ask for the placements of the 0/5, 1/4 and 2/3-pairs, it is pretty straightforward. Mr. Neapolitan is my English teacher (I’m on my brother’s account, this is Isaiah), and he teaches me a lot of stuff about math, albeit I’m not the best at it, so thank you Mr. Nap
Auto correct sucks and made me spell my own teacher’s name wrong 😭
oh my gosh thats my teacher he makes learning so much easier for me i lovee this :)
That’s my teacher Mr.Nap he is so helpful in math, I didn’t like math till his class
58:27 - Wow! Astonishing puzzle. Very original.
The constraints at this point are:
- The r3c7 cell is either the black or the red digit.
- The r3c7 cell is either a 6 or an 8.
- The black cells are 6 and the red cells are either 7 or 8.
It can still be that red is 7 because this doesn't at this point create any contradictions; all statements can still be true. Hence we cannot conclude that red is 8.
Mild spoiler: I thought that too, but in the end it turned out that red was 7, but I dont see why the login doesn't work
@@davidethelberg2091Doesn't work because r6c4 can still be 7 (and red).
It doesn’t happen often, but this time I think Simon’s instincts led him down a very difficult path. I never felt the need for coloring during the solve.
It doesn't take much for Simon to start using some colours. And once he starts, he tends to keep colouring all through the solve :)
Yay a negative constraint puzzle!
Nah Mr nap is dead that guy for making this 🙏
Great puzzle
