Lombardi always talks like he's the end all, be all and that he's won so many SBs. This dude had one shot at GM and didn't do anything. Pennix Jr. was a FALL to ATL, not a reach. Because someone disagrees with him on the Pennix pick now all of a sudden they don't know nor understand a draft board? IT simple, they had Pennix as the 2nd best QB in the draft and he slipped to 8, they took him for the future, SIMPLE. Because 2 years from now when Pennix starts and he's tearing up the league same way Jordan Love did and showed the goods this year, have Lombardi back on this show and ask him what he thinks? " 3:49 Doesn't show lack of preparation, shows for their board Pennix SLIPPED to them so they feel they HAD to them take him since its the QB POSITION. Broncos, Raiders, etc were trying to trade into the top 10 FOR pennix. So what does that say?
At the end of the day signing Kirk Cousins or drafting Penicillin aren’t bad moves. However doing them both within a month shows the Falcons front office did not have a plan or vision for the direction of this team. You can’t say we’re doing everything we can to win now when at the same time spending the 8th pick on a backup QB when you’ve had the worst pass rush in football for the last 4 years. Not to mention you spent the 8th pick a year ago on a running back when you already had a rookie RB coming off a 1,000 season and Jalen Carter was on the board. In my opinion Terry Fontenot made this pick to further his tenure in Atlanta. He blocked Belichick out to keep his control over the team and now with the Penix selection has guaranteed himself a job for at least 3 more years until Penix is “ready to start”.
I totally disagree. IT show they REACTED to the draft and how Pennix SLIPPED to them, thats what it shows. You hae your PRESENT SET while having your FUTURE PREPARED. Cousins deal was a 2 YEAR DEAL from jump REGARDLESS if ATL took Pennix OR not. "You can’t say we’re doing everything we can to win now when at the same time spending the 8th pick on a backup QB when you’ve had the worst pass rush in football for the last 4 years." So Cousins came here for the 8th overall pick? ATL is in "win now" mode because of Pitts., London, BIjan, Tyler Algier, top 10 OL, and top 15 defense that broke out LAST SEASON. So how is ATL NOT in "win now" mode? Thats why Cousins came here BEFORE the draft played out how it did. ATL was in "win now" mode BEFORE Pennix pick. This 8th pick stuff is so overblown because you still have DRAFT PICKS POST the 8th overall pick. Raheem Morris is basically saying he can make the defense work with what he has ESPECIALLY when you have a QB like Cousins playing with the weapons ATL has. "In my opinion Terry Fontenot made this pick to further his tenure in Atlanta." WHy wouldn't you secure WINNING in your future and WINNING in your PRESENT? I just don't see the problem with setting yourself up to WIN NOW plus WIN in the future when its the QB position. Thats pretty smart to me IMO
