2 channel system-Multiple PAIRS of speakers. It's not very audiophile-ish but it was so much fun.

- More than one pair of speaker in a 2 channel stereo system sound a little off. May be it does to many of us audiophile. I have been playing with the ideas for over a years. The concept has been in my head for a long time. Since I have over 40 pairs of speaker and almost 70 amplifiers in my collection what can I do with them. Starting with two pairs on the same plane. In this system, I am using two pairs on a different plane. Planning to add the third pairs behind the listening position with adjustable phase in the near future. When........., I get enough time to build those special amps I meant to build.

Cool experiment. You’re making immersive sound. Really neat stuff. My system is designed to give the same type of presentation. I use an 18” Subwoofer behind me in an infinite baffle configuration with a DSP to get the same type of two channel immersive experience.
I also own a pair of Aerial Acoustics 5B stand mounts that I do not use. 😊
The debate continues.I fully support this concept. Lets just say when it comes to speakers, my preference has always been full range towers. i am old enough to remember the quadraphonic phase. this is not it. That was placing 4 speakers in the corners of the room and centering yourself. Due to the fact that for most of my life I could not afford a quality system, I always tried different things to compensate for this. I have been told by just about every HIFI intellectual that running 4 speakers up front is wrong and does not work. I vehemently disagree and I don't care! Again the reasoning for me doing this was to attempt to get a much fuller sound out of speakers not capable on their own of providing full range sound filling a room. Not one that "measured" perfectly. I understand that taking two $29 Magnavox speakers and adding two more just made a horrible sound worse, its not a perfect solution. However placing two reasonably decent speakers with different characteristics up front can compliment each other and compensate for a fuller sound than many stand alone pairs. Even more so than just two speakers, the placement of four speakers is imperative to achieve any kind of pleasing symmetry.
That being said, I think we can all agree that one of the primary benefits of Hifi is to replicate being in a room with the life instruments/music fully immersing you.. Every room you listen to live music in has different characteristics sonically. So what room is perfect? what system is perfect? Why is it wrong to use more than two speakers and expand the range of tonality? My main system is Two full range tower speakers but my second is and always will be 4 speaker two channel. The "just buy better speakers" argument is for snobs looking down on people trying anything to achieve the best sound they can.
I fully understand the experiment discussed in this video is NOT about compensation. it's about sonics. I can not say more emphatically that I DO NOT CARE about measurements (Yes they matter and have an important part in sound quality) but they do not show my preferences even if they are "wrong" according to someone that doesn't live in my house or buy my stuff. Its far to easy and intellectual dishonest to use the argument "your entitled to your own opinion just not your own facts". The goal is a personal one and constantly moving the goal to your own preferences negates any valid argument one might have.
Out of desperation I have stumbled into a 4 speaker sound that provides amazing acoustics pleasing to my ear. I have found a pleasing blend of sound mixed with awesome imaging and separation with nice tonality. If you move from the sweet spot its really bad, if you push the volume its goes south quickly. I know its not perfect but in certain situations it's really pleasing, not right or wrong.
I ask, who would pay money if you could only listen to one recording in one room on one system at only one volume? Let's keep this hobby a fun one with experimentation. Some times it will work and others not at all. A "hit" record isn't necessarily a good recording it just connects with a majority of the people.
What you said sound like a very fine piece of music playing in my head. Thank you for standing your ground. I have already added another two speakers at the rear channel. Another video is coming online this Thursday discussing the result with another listener. I am going to do a a video of how I do it.
Remind your my set up also involve something I design within the system. Something we call Shape Knobs. It changes the shape of the soundstage. This also affect the result of the multi speaker set up.
BTW You are the only person, at least commented, who understand this is NOT 1970s quadraphonic.
@@angela-gilbert I could not be more excited to hear that system with adjustability to sound stage. i am not sure where I saw you discussing it. Maybe with OCD Mikey. Let me say there is not a way to describe how I felt when hearing that, other than to say it would be very crude description of my excitement.
In addition to being old enough to remember quadraphonic sound, I am old enough to remember televisions with vertical and horizontal adjustments to allow for elongating either axis to compensate for the image on the screen. I cannot express my joy that you are even attempting this. If you can pull this off and add a depth dimension, it will be the greatest advancement in sound in 50 years. I will do what ever I can to avail myself of that sound.
Thank you for daring to dream!
@@bobr9605 You probably have heard it from OCD Mikey when him and I did a live stream. Someone name Larry bought an AG3000 preamp which I made in 2004. It has 4 volume controls and he ask how to use them. They are the Shape Knob eve back then I did it. But I didn't do any promotion nor we had TH-cam back then. Since 4 volume controls has mentioned on OCD and I have done a video to explain it. All the sudden there are interest.
Have you watch my 4 volume control video? I explained how they work. The updated Shape Knobs will have a master volume control to eliminate the need of turning four know up and down when changing volume.
I assume you live far away from Ontario, Canada? If you are close, come by to have a listen.
Check this out if you haven't.

May I be so bold as to say that this could very possibly be what bridges" lifestyle" audio products with audiophile products, thus brining the quality of audiophile sound to the masses without the finances and even fewer room restrictions for placement of the speakers. Absolute genius!!
I hope your patents are in order because your concept is about to be poached.
May I also add IMO Atmos is a rehashed quadraphonic/surround sound. This is immersion, it's different. I just don't have the ability to properly describe how it is different.
@@bobr9605 All suggestions taken. No point to do patent. I don't have the money to defend it if I get it. Some big company will take it away if their marketing department think they can make money from it. So far, after 25 years of my AG3000, no other company has even try. They are still selling the same old same old.
Yes, you can be so bold about getting the high end sound without spending the stupid money. In fact, multi speakers also give the user the flexibility to adjust the sound in a smaller room to achieve big sound without using big speakers and the negative effect of big speakers.
Wish you can come hear it yourself.
I like to play with this, multiple speakers running the same 2 channel music, the best I think is 3 pairs, a main pair at ear level normal, a high pair and a low pair.....its cool with different bookshelf speakers, they each pick up different parts of the music and cool effects happen...its more than audiophile,...it audiofun.....you can also play with a pair of bookshelf facing backwards and out of phase to your main speakers, now you effectivly have a dipole effect happening....is it perfect? no , but it sure is fun.
@@StrangeBrewReviews Yes, it is fun. Audiophile? I really don't care. May be we can start a trend and become audiophile-ish. 🤔 I am uploading a short right now to short my 6 speaker set up. Another video with a listener experience is going online later this week.
Audiofun!
What are your thoughts on subs to augment/enhance bass. Especially with smaller stand mounted speakers?
They work. Just have to make sure to get the right sub and place them correctly. I am working on a pair of sub for my this multi speakers 2 channel set up right now.
Rels High-Level input is gain aggressive. Proper active crossover cats meow. Xlr input makes it simple integration 😊
I find that potato chips, especially those with aggressive ridges can be very disruptive during critical listening…make that during *all* listening. While pizza 🍕 is somewhat bearable.
Anything crunchy is bad. Make sure the pizza is some what soft for listening session. 😆
@ seems hotdogs also seem to work as well. It appears that Costco serves the discerning audiophile well with their food court selections. 😆
@brianyee5504 As long as we don't stuff it into the mouth too fast.
What Stands and stand mount loudspeakers are those at the front (silver).
They are AAD 7001. The stands come with the speakers.
@angela-gilbert Thanks for such a speedy response.
What kind of speakers were those?👂
Quadraphonic failed years ago, good luck this time around. More speaker sales?
@@De132an This is not quadraphonic. This is 2 channels only. So far in this video I was using 4 speakers at the front. I have since added two more at the rear channel. I am going to do a video detailing what I am doing. It is not totally new but nothing at this level has been done before. Please don't assume this is something recycle from the old days.
And remember this one. I don't sell speakers so I wouldn't be benefit from this so much. I will benefit from making a special integrated amp which suitable for this purpose. The amp will be a one step at a time thing so user don't have to put in large amount of money to begin with. It also allow them to use the existing amp and speakers. This is something as a add on for more fun. Not a replacement for anything.
@ AG, no no I didn’t mean to imply your boutique shop sells speakers, please forgive the misunderstanding. Just saying people will see this and might be prompted to buy more audio gear that might not be needed. Funny all this started back in the day as mono. 📻
@@De132an Mono to Stereo was a huge huge improvement. Anything after that wasn't nearly as huge. Big, yes but isn't day and night improvement.
I am going to do a video explaining the idea behind this and just about anyone can do it with existing 2 channel equipment. Get used stuff and try it. If it doesn't work, sell them as 2 channel equipment. No worry on technology going obsoleted.
a better approaches a single speaker with multiple drivers using coax drivers B&C 1 pointing forward 1 pointing up 1 pointing back and two each side below the one pointing forward pointing down at 45 degrees. Exeting a port at the bottom all of them or open
I don't think it will have the same effect as what I am doing. I am also adding the 3rd at the rear wall. The 4th pairs may be outside the room for deep bass. At this point of this video, having two pairs at the front increase stage depth and height also deeper slightly tighter bass.
