the can bus wiring for steering controls is a 3.5mm jack marked w/r . the purple and white is the reverse trigger for the rear cam 12v or switched on menu to ground trigger . and the rear camera input is the brown phono or rca input

Hi Alex, nice video. i have pioneer sph da 360 DAB already install in my car but there are some features that are blocked. can i fix it myself as you did in your video with green and black wires. my car do not have manual handbrake. it is electronic. so i cut the wire as you did and no need to bother if still connect to handbrake. when i try to connect USB stick with usb cable. it do not read anything or shown up. may i know why? thank you

Are you 100% sure you got that correct with the handbrake wire because in the manual it says it needs connecting to the power supply side of the hand brake and not the earth side?
when will Stereo manufacturers realise that dumping the simple and tested Volume knob was a terrible decision. When you need to quickly turn down the volume or turn the sound off you don't want to be faffing around looking for the 2 none tactile buttons.
Bought this myself, due to the spec and not to risk these cheaper Chinese Android units. This is Pioneers Chinese version. Absolutely hate anything touch screen in a car but that was the compromise. I do have steering wheel volume controls at least.
@@wintersun398 yes that's what I mean. You should be able to add the steering controls to the harness required between the headunit and car. On a side note I hated this Pioneer so much I swapped it for a Kenwood unit. £200 more but so so much better!! No knob but has a row of physical buttons and a mute (ATT) 👌

Is it possible to make another video, with real life use of this stereo? E.g. Turn it on (not first time boot), with an already paired phone, make a phone call, switch to FM, turn on waze and drive for a bit (to see what happens to fm radio), receive a call when the fm stereo is on... There's nothing on youtube about this.
Great video Alex, just a quick question. I had my unit installed today by halfords, however, I cannot connect wirelesly to my apple CarPlay. The only way it will connect is through the usb cable. Does it mean that my unit is faulty? I have Siri and Apple CarPlay enabled on the settings. Thanks
Apple can some times be a little different in method . So I went to look at WiFi on my android Samsung phone and couldn't connect the way I would of expected . Instead I unplugged the phone paired to the stereo via Bluetooth first and as soon as I did that I had a pop up asking if I wanted android auto to connect wireless ly and it worked . Hope that helps
There are 2 of these units that are essentially exactly the same. One allows for wired Apple CarPlay, and the other is wireless. I purchased this from Halfords also, and I paid an extra £100 for the wireless version, and I did see on the reviews of the wired one that people were expecting wireless CarPlay, but it just did not support it. Hope this is of help
@@IDemonstrateVelocity26 doesn't matter if you have the GPS aerial plugged in and it's developed a bug for the GPS not working re doing the software writes a new firmware level for it to work from so if the current one has a corrupt file it will wipe it and start again
Very useful video, however i do have a question. Will the stereo still work when the ignition is off? Got a MK7 golf (Jap import) and the dealer put in an aftermarket Pioneer single din (original was a double), but when the ignition is off the stereo won't play. I have just brought this (well the 160) double din but was wondering as I like to listen when the engine is turned off... Thx.
depending on the harness steve id say not the unit requires an ign feed to activate the bluetooth and search for the phone if the radio was on 247 you would leave the connection and the car wouldnt know when to re connect a switch would be the only way of having it on and engine or key off
Has anyone here found a decent steering wheel control adapter for this headunit? To suit a subaru would be handy! I was so disappointed to find that its SWC system basically doesn't exist and you need another adapter. The unit I was suggested by pioneer in australia ia approx. $180+ ! If i spent $150+ on the headunit itselt I could have got a much better unit with SWC built in!
@@AlexCarter-AscAudio 2008 BP5 liberty/legacy - originally had the mcintosh system, I tried cutting the wires before the SWC module and attaching them to the headunit but they don't work.. From some reseach the PAC SWI-CP5 and Aerpro AXSWC units should work but there is zero information from Pioneer on this for the SPH headunits. Cheers

I removed it but not the cables and cant find anywhere that lists what cables came in the box... are you able to list what came with the head unit please as I will need to buy them seperately.
Hello the green handbrake cable according to pioneers installation manual should go to the handbrake positive lead would it still work if i connect it to the black ground on the pioneer harness or should it go to the positive side of the handbrake

I dont know what settings u can change anyway if it is connected correctly. My brightness option wont change anyway so my screen is super bright at night
brightness can be changed in the settings to auto , when the lights are on it dims . timed so at a time set by you it will go to day mode or night mode or manual you turn it off or on . look for the button that has a box and a line under it on the screen
To a reverse light power or reverse trigger . Some vehicles need a relay adding to keep the power above the correct level . If you are using a car with a can system you may have the out put on the steering control harness .
Hi My hu when hold off key in pannel and off hu but my amp is runing.. when switch is off vehicle my external amps is shot down. remote wire is electric when switch is off vehicle remote wire is cut electric my hu is problem ? because off my hu in panel remote wire is runing electric and my amps is runing?
and even i tested to put handbrake in my garage but still i cannot access full features to see vidoes. what does it mean? my wire is not connected to handbrake. because i cannot see the difference with or without handbrake.
Android auto and carplay are approved apps.. to be able to have them used inside a production car they have to meet certain specifications like not being able to watch films as the car is in motion and not to distract the driver . The green wire is a sense that tells the stereo that the handbrake is on and allows full use of the stereo as in you're not moving and the stereo can show you everything all of the features . Not having the green connected to anything means the unit is in limbo and won't allow access to certain things . Using the cars handbrake switch either earth or power then allows the full use . We connect the green to the earth so the unit thinks it's safe to perform all its tasks and show and do everything because its fooled into thinking its safe to do so . If you still crash and kill people watching a film whilst driving then that becomes a you problem not a manufacturer issue they have made it safe by adding a green wire as a fail safe and we bypass that so you get full function . How you use it after that is down to the user .

I have connected this model to our van (vw crafter 2012) however the multiplayer turns on only when the van is off, then turns on when the Van is off. Have you ever encountered this? Is it particular to each vehicle or could you do a video on how to remedy this as a general fix?
So you need to check the powers the radio only need 2 lives ign and perm to turn on and a ground . In the power harness you must have a cable still powering the radio after the ignition is removed . Almost like a bad lazy earth . Use a metre or test light and check the voltages of the three cables live earth and ign . Apart from illumination and aerial power you need nothing else

it works fine . this unit although carries the pioneer name its build is outsourced not a in house unit . normal warranties apply , i just wish they kept the 230dab
bigger screen buttons on the bottom and reliable . the 160 and 360 are of same nature but the 360 is wireless capable but the 230 will always be my fav

try downloading a new software from pioneers website refresh the unit

oh im sure 99 % of park breaks are negative but if you with the menu has an option to sense positive too

i cannot see factory reset option in the unit, it is grey out. so it means we cannot use factory reset from the unit.
