Yep, there's just something about being catapulted over the handlebars & dislocating a hip, to really get your ride off to a good start! You can tell the old school bikers in a hurry, from the right leg limp.
Glad you enjoy them, I learn a lot in the process as well. More on the way!

To this day it's baffles me how some so called "expert" technicians don't understand that excess grease, anti seize, contact grease, etc. is as detrimental as too little in the long run. I've encountered several times thermal/high resistance issues in high voltage contacts (60-400 kV) where the root cause is simply too much contact grease.
Started watching your channel three weeks ago. Watched your 48 bobber build from start to finish and the next week I went and bought a sportster 48. First bike I’ve ever owned and thanks to you, it’s gonna look great after I customize it! Thanks from Wisconsin blockhead
Next Step i would recommend cleaning the Carburator if you haven't done already. There are these Ultrasonic Cleaning Machines. All the little Fuel Injector Holes can be partly blocked if the Engine cools down.
That lovely hair dryer sound tho :D Nah an upgrade there 100% makes sense. Pedro is awesome and that's a bloody huge upgrade, hopefully thats the end of the issues.
@@BlockheadMoto ah crap I was watching before work and when it started I ran away 😂😂 watched the rest now. I look forward to them. I like the starts more often 😂 you'll get to every time soon :)
Thats why you have kickstart... sounds like the starter motor is turning but the small gear is not pulled into the clutch gear (i am at the start of the video so maybe you figure this out later in the vid , or what I am talking about only goes for shovels))
lol, that's a 2 in 1 solenoid , one for the key [ electric start ] and the ''2'' is for manual [ in case the wiring from the electric start goes bad ] . the solenoid gets magnetized by a '' field coil '' from the voltage '' current '' . if possible use a split lock washer and a terminal bolt that has ribs on it to keep it from loosening . . . or blue loc-tite . sounds like you need another flywheel [possibly ] on that clutch assembly basket, i think the teeth are worn down to the point of '' barely making contact '' . as with that old starter, the drive gear teeth may be worn down as well. would have been a sight to see the drive gear turn the clutch basket without that cover on , just to see how far out it goes. OR , there was toooo much dry anti seize compacted in the cover journal for the jack shaft. i heard the new starter make the same noise as the old one did. that is why i gave so much of a response. well earned 10,000 thumbs up ! p.s. hmm, can there possibly be a right side view mirror in the future ? and when testing out other bikes, do some with a rate of '' balance '' .
For sure. One of the things I've learned from many others telling me is that if there's nothing wrong with the carb, DON'T "fix" it! This one's running fine so far, but if / when it starts giving me trouble, I'll definitely be looking into Lectron! I've heard good things.
My dads been a mechanic for almost 40 years. He ended up tattooing his ring on bc the amount of times he would bash his hands and fingers was insane. And he didn’t need a ring to get caught on any part of the car or truck, bc that’s a good way to get hands or fingers ripped off
I'm excited Blockhead! I've scheduled to buy a bike on Friday! I've owned motorcycles my whole life, but I still get that new bike "Rush"! So, on Friday think of me an enjoy the rush! Cool!
lol I've seen plenty of people not able to get a bike with a kickstarter going. Maybe nothing to do w/ the kickstarter, but moreso with the jackshaft (foreshadowing)
That’s what my ex500 that I just got a week ago does and I can’t even ride it legally yet sounds like when I try and start it, atleast I know what’s wrong with it lol
You didn't need a new starter you just needed to push that button then and you never did when you turn the key so your jackshaft never did engage on to the flywheel without pushing in that button on the starter
It very well maybe that you are getting the required 12 volts but not enough Amps. Could be a relay or , simply the battery isnt strong enough to fully activate the bendix to push out the jack shaft...
The open belt primary from Ultima is notorious for giving a shit Jackshaft from the factory that doesn’t engage due to the teeth design, which they are very well aware of and they recommend buying their upgraded shaft for a Benjamin right in the install manual, which fixes the issue. They didn’t need to replace the starter but can’t go wrong with a beefier one.
Maybe the button you swapped in is the problem. I'd swap it back and use a jumper wire on that plug to see if that fixes it before you spend any more money.
Nah the button wasn't the issue. It's more reliable after the new starter, but didn't solve it 100%, however we do fix it 100% (knocks on wood) in an incoming vid!
The first motorcycle I ever own was kick only so technically a downgrade lol. But just ain’t a Chopper with out a kick start. I enjoy your. Videos stay safe out there
Usually I’d do that, but being a beat up old starter just made more sense to swap it with an upgraded one, I do rebuild solenoids and even starters if needed
Battery is connected to starter, which is connected to the key switch. Turn key, activates starter, starter turns jackshaft which turns the flywheel on the primary, which causes the pistons in the engine to rotate starting compression, power going to plugs causes spark which gets the engine going upon detonation and voila, bike on and running.
Whoever installed the previous starter must make insane peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Dude this made me lol so hard, hahaha 😂 You get a pin!
Maybe it’s just me, but I love kick starters on choppers
Me: Kick starters *DO* look cool on choppers!
Florida summer: Heatstroke, what's that?

Man, the world NEEDS more Pedros... such a cool, humble dude!
Make more of these type of videos. I get so much to learn from your repairs. Appreciate it brother!
Glad you enjoy them, I learn a lot in the process as well. More on the way!

Maaaaan that's a lot easier with an open primary LOL
Yeah it is! lol
I can’t wait until my garage looks like that!! All the bikes and tools!!!
This was so much fun to watch, already good screen chemistry between you guys. Keep up the awesome work.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤘
Just two dudes in the garage playing with their jack shaft.
Pedro makes it sound and look like its easy!
Am I the only person who wishes they would go back to making kick starter bikes?
they do make kits to make modern bikes kick start.
all you had to do was clean out the Jack shaft. more than likely full of sticky grease stopping it from throwing out!
Love this channel stuck home with the corona happy I found y’all
Pedro is the man!
Nice to have Pedro local in case I get myself "in over my head."
(Which happens occasionally.)..lol
That lovely hair dryer sound tho :D Nah an upgrade there 100% makes sense.

Helped the issues, but wasn't quite the end! More 'fix' videos incoming, haha

“Vote for Pedro!” Dude knows his stuff!!
He explains things very well and is pretty darn funny.
Nice chopper, guess the seat won't be much comfortable
Can’t wait for 300K
Pedro is great, man. "the start of good things" haha
You've had some really nice bikes on the channel over the years, but this one is definitely my favorite..
Blockhead loving the look of that bike Bro!!!
Yay for more consistent starting!!
Hooray reliability! haha
Nature’s lock tight,,,rust! LMAO!
Vote for pedro guys for the next episodes to come
Love your videos! I never wanted a bike till watched your vids. Keep on being the best!
Thanks man, appreciate the support!
vote for pedro. he is awesome
What a great bike! Looking forward to more vids.
Good morning, great video! Glad I clicked on this video what a great way to start the day...lol! Just a reminder don't forget to get the belt cover!!
Good morning, thanks for watching!
I seen that strap over the belt I was thinking I hope they remember to take off the belt. But no...
So chrome does get you home !! Is that the first chrome part you have ever bought?
Missing the old outro song, honestly even re-watched the bober final ride vid because of the sweet ending with the song 🎵
My new favorite word..... Jack shaft.. 😂
This really looks like something shadetree might buy
3 am uploads love it
Love the bike, man

Future vid incoming of the jackshaft / flywheel with the cover off incoming!
As he was hitting the starter button I was yelling at my screen! "TAKE OFF THE STRAP!"
Sally is coming back to life, Pedro deserves the biker version of the Legion of merit
Not a starter issue. Bendix issue.
You should put a Lectron Carb on her next! Both Shadetree and Jake the Gardening Snake have had great luck with them.
For sure. One of the things I've learned from many others telling me is that if there's nothing wrong with the carb, DON'T "fix" it! This one's running fine so far, but if / when it starts giving me trouble, I'll definitely be looking into Lectron! I've heard good things.

What stand are you using for this bike?
Choppers need a kicker as well as an electric foot. Going with a high-torque starter is always a good idea. -- Walt Old Gray Beard
Haha! That damn pulley
The plate you cleaned could have wear and that plays havoc with the Bendix (jackshaft)
I'm excited Blockhead! I've scheduled to buy a bike on Friday! I've owned motorcycles my whole life, but I still get that new bike "Rush"! So, on Friday think of me an enjoy the rush! Cool!
Pre-congrats Tim!

man i love this bike!!!!!
That’s one shiny starter! Soooo much anti-seize...😳
Pedro seems so chill 😌
Hey you know what never fail kickstart
lol I've seen plenty of people not able to get a bike with a kickstarter going. Maybe nothing to do w/ the kickstarter, but moreso with the jackshaft (foreshadowing)
@@BlockheadMoto ....jackshaft... 😂 I think what made it so funny, as if it needed help, was Pedro's hesitation and squirm about saying it... 😂
Kinda looks like a Harley Seventy-Two
That’s what my ex500 that I just got a week ago does and I can’t even ride it legally yet sounds like when I try and start it, atleast I know what’s wrong with it lol

I’d push that button plenty of times and it still wouldn’t start. You’ll see the fix in an incoming video.
It very well maybe that you are getting the required 12 volts but not enough Amps. Could be a relay or , simply the battery isnt strong enough to fully activate the bendix to push out the jack shaft...
Thought the shaft is pushed out manually, that's why they changed out the unit from the old starter....
The open belt primary from Ultima is notorious for giving a shit Jackshaft from the factory that doesn’t engage due to the teeth design, which they are very well aware of and they recommend buying their upgraded shaft for a Benjamin right in the install manual, which fixes the issue. We realized the jackshaft had wear and was part of the issue after we took everything apart, guess it will be swapped 💥
Pedro was in one of my faves episode Giselle FXR DAY episode!
Btw was at Bike night @Ace Cafe during bike week awesome place. We need that in New York.
I love Sucker Punch Sallys bikes.... They are bad ass...!
I sure would LOVE to win this!!! :)
Next upgrade kick start.
Is that really an upgrade though, or just preference? haha
The first motorcycle I ever own was kick only so technically a downgrade lol. But just ain’t a Chopper with out a kick start. I enjoy your. Videos stay safe out there
Love the videos
Was yelling in my head you forgot the tie down strap
Wish I was. yelling that when it happened, lol
Put a kick start on the bike in case one day your battery hates you lol
Did you diagnose the starter solenoid before changing out the whole unit?
Usually I’d do that, but being a beat up old starter just made more sense to swap it with an upgraded one, I do rebuild solenoids and even starters if needed
Block, how many more bikes till you turn the house into the shop & move your bed into the garage ??
uuh sponsored by Ruroc, saw that on the intro now
Nice, let's see what u gonna do with dat bike
That was interesting
Jackshaft 😂
Pedro's cool
Legit was saying I hope they take the strap off they start the bike lol
Shoutout to the 3AM squad lol

Hey Beavis, (uh huh huh huh) did he just say Jack shaft?
I was thinking the same thing. 😂
Anyone know about how long shipping from the store is?

That thing is just begging for a springer front end
That sounds like my old vacuum
It *sucks* to hear it also (ba tum, tsh!)
Damn I'd love to have that bike just my style bobber wouldn't change a thing
So wait I am curious, how does this bike start, do you have to do soemthing with starter? Let me know I just curious never seen one like this.
Did anybody else get a asmr vibe🤣😂
🤘🏍🤘
That is a beautiful bike shaped like a woman on all her fours.
Also, Pedro is honest. Be like Pedro.
On all her fours? Dafuq, lol
@@BlockheadMoto I think somebody's lonely...
Looks like the other starter was good. The jack shaft is just worn out.
