Roller-Skating Rental Kiosk Demolished During Venice Homeless Encampment Cleanup

- Los Angeles, May 15, 2024: A Venice man's mobile kiosk, used as a roller-skating rental business, was demolished during a homeless encampment cleanup on Oxford Avenue on Wednesday. The kiosk's owner, who may be homeless, attempted to move his business before the operation, but was informed by police that it could not remain on public property. Fortunately, he was able to salvage a storage locker full of roller skates before the demolition.
The cleanup involved multiple city agencies, including the LAPD, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Parks' Housing Coordinator. This multi-agency effort ensured the operation was conducted smoothly and safely, with team members donning protective gear to handle and dispose of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste efficiently.
This initiative is part of the City of Los Angeles' ongoing strategy to manage homelessness and improve public health, with LAHSA providing essential support services like food, water, and hygiene kits to those displaced. Under Councilwoman Traci Parks' leadership, the city is dedicated to enhancing safety and cleanliness while addressing the underlying causes of homelessness through effective and compassionate measures.

I counted 15 people , cops, sanitation, outreach on this operation with most of them standing around watching. That is a lot of $$ in wages.

yeah thing is they dont care how many of them stand around looking like total idiots being outsmarted by a guy that knew the exact dimensions of the intake bay on that garbage truck so that they'd have to spend almost an hour there because most of them santiation workers are probably hourly employees and the cops sure dont care all they gotta do is stand there and be alert enough to make sure nobody steals their patrol units right out from under them

Yeah, you can’t just up and put a kiosk wherever you want. Surely there is no permits or licensing.😅😂🤦🏻♂️.
But they let all of those rental electric scooters be parked all over the place on sidewalks and in the streets so maybe the city could give the gentleman a place in one of there many storage yards that they have to help out the situation. It is better he has a business be it small instead of having to do other things that are far worse no matter if they are homeless or not.
It is not the homeless and drug addicts who create these situations they are the result of our government who can not seem to try let alone care about the dangerous highly addictive drugs flowing into our country. As well as the government who adds extra costly fees and requirements to new housing as well as over the top taxes that result in not enough new housing being built resulting in a increase in homeless and increased rental and ownership rates.
And it is wild that about a dozen government workers are not smart enough to know that had they had a sawzall they could have that very new expensive useful shed torn down and gone in a few minutes. The money being used to do this job could be given to the sheds owner for a decent salary to live off of for a year. Now they have possible nails and wood chips left on the ground. And for what they solved nothing in fact only wasted time and maybe helped the cops stretch there legs which they need as they are professional leaners and can lean like no other. They do keep the barbers and dry cleaners in business I suppose though.

The rental scooter company is an actual business. With a business certificate and they pay taxes and have permission to put their rental scooters on the streets. You just can't build a wooden box, put it in the street, and say it's a business. There are rules and regulations, especially in California.

Also I never said I approved of parking the shed on the street I said the scooter rentals are all over the place and most people and business's pay taxes and are not allowed to park anywhere they want.

You do not pay property taxes do you. I want my neighborhood to be safe and blight free in which I pay property tax for that goes to the PD. The people who cant park or have to look out their window to see this structure deserve for it not to be there. It brings down their property value not to mention having mentally or dr ugged out people roaming around.
Buy a house and you will soon learn what's important to you or your block or neighborhood will look like parts of Mexico or India without any order.
It already looks like Mexico on the Santa Monica pier with the illegals and their fruit and meat carts. They don't have health licenses, a place to wash their hands. They don't store the meat at the proper temperature. They want to make money but they don't want to follow any rules that regular citizens have to follow. Does this guy have a business license? Does he pay taxes? Is he renting that space?
