I have at least four more playthroughs for Skyrim before I leave the game for good. 1. Legacy of the Dragonborn v5 and the eventual Odyssey of the Dragonborn. Will continue the save when Odyssey is released. 2. Inigo v3. It'll be a new save starting from first meeting him in the cell. 3. Beyond Skyrim. I will start a new save when a release date for one of the completed provinces is announced and continue that save for each province released. 4. Currently playing as a Khajiit with the Khajiit Speak mod and Khajiit Speak Extended which adds support for Inigo.
The vanilla one is just bare bones simple. There is nothing pretty about it. When it comes to UI, Oblivion was a lot nicer, except for not having a favorites menu. It was certainly a lot prettier and more colorful. SkyUI is much more useful than vanilla, but it's still not exactly a "pretty" interface.
I never thought of hiding the HUD, until you made iHUD those many years ago. Now I cannot live without it. You've corrupted me. As if that was hard to do.
its crazy how picky i am now with HUDs in games. if i can't get rid of the crosshair it irritates the hell out of me, and if i can't customize it then i better be able to turn it off! im such a spoiled gamer man
In WoW I'm a full-on HUD guy. I have widgets everywhere for every tiny thing. So I was sceptical about iHud... and I ended up loving it. I guess it comes down to how good the game is to look at. And Skyrim, despite its age and lacking visuals, uses its resources in a great way. The game looks great. It's more immersive than any other 1st person RPG of the last decade. There's some je ne sais quoi quality to how the game looks that makes it beatifull to stare at. And any HUD elements stands in the way...
SkyHUD already comes with that kinda function on top of customizable presets that make the regular interface not look shit whenever it becomes visible lol

I'm actually glad you are going over the basic stuff again in 2020, much of the information out there at this stage is years out of date, and there's also a bit of a lack of solid basics stuff for SSE as most of it is for the original game. Bravo. More of this, please.
I don't know how to describe how happy I am that Gopher is still making Skyrim videos. I've been feeling super nostalgic lately and Skyrim will always be my go-to comfort game! Gopher's videos kinda go hand in hand with that!
"It's not on my must-have list because I made it, I made it because it's on my must-have list." That is an attitude that needs to be permeated through society. Don't just do a thing and then make other people think it's necessary because you went through the effort of making it. Make the thing that is already necessary. Admittedly, that's already how a lot of business works, but there are still a bunch of awful products that go the other way and prey on fools.
Something to mention regarding he the unofficial patch, they've also changed a few mechanics that are borderline "exploits", that may, or may not have been left there on purpose by Bethesda. Some of them are: The marked for Death shout, pretty OP, but used a lot in role-play builds; The Necromage perk - fixing it brakes many creative and role-playig builds; Aspect of Terror perk, it used to affect fire spells too, because of the correlation with the fear effect; The 100% magic absorption trick with the Atronach stone - used to allow you to become a magicka tank, like in Oblivion and pretty much any of the older TES games; The Rune Hammer - it used to give you Destrucion exp when placing fire runes with it, a cool and unique feature that I don't see the point in removing. And probably there are more examples. There are some mods that reverse some of these "fixes" though. I just thought I'd share this for the people that are browsing builds and are not fully aware of the mod changes, which is BTW a very good mod to have after all.
oh thank you so much for putting sse engine fixes on my radar. i couldn't figure out the performance issues i was having and i totally missed this one.
Nice list. I've been using 5 out of the 6 for years now. The SKSE auto-backup is a new one to me, but good god is it needed. Thanks for the recommendation!
You've convinced me. After almost a decade of ignoring the skse, I finally just installed it and these mods. I truly didn't know what I was missing, thanks so much Gopher!
Id argue and say not having Underwear is more important than Shoes, tried it once and people weren't to fond of me walking down the street with my Dawnbreaker swinging about.
Excellent list; especially for someone coming to the game late. Great you are getting back to Skyrim mod videos...hope you will do more videos of your recommendations.
idk about everyone else but i look for these videos hoping these are the kinds of mods that are being talked about, there are plenty of videos about the cool and flashy but i really appreciate it when somebody talks about the essentials
The creation club and the whole hassle with updates that completely wreck your whole setup is the one reason why i'm still using the old Skyrim... it just works That's for your videos Gopher. You're a legend.
While I appreciate the sentiment... Sadly, at least for me, LE doesn't just work... I know how to properly mod Beth games, but, nonetheless, LE has *always* been a crash fest. SE's stability is worth the change, and the CC updates can be quite easily circumvented.
I just reached 300 Mods but I didn't know about SkyrimSE.exe Auto-Backup, sounds pretty useful thanks again Gopher, without your guides I would never have made it so far with my Skyrim and Fallout 4 modded Games. I learned alot thanks for still sticking around, greatings and yeah Happy new year!
i havent played skyrim in years it was fun while it lasted but after seeing this ive decided that a relapse in skyrim wouldnt be such a bad idea now thanks gopher
SKSE: "...like your shoes." SkyUI: because mods. IHud: "I made it because it was on my must have list." (Witcher3: Aye, Wasteland Ghost rocks.) SkyrimSE.exe Auto-Backup: Cos Steam doesn't care if it ruins your thousand-hour-saves for your heavily modded single player game. You can disable the steam update by adding an argument to your windows Hosts file to block the update's source URL. There is a tutorial on how to do so buried on the Nexus somewhere. Best to find it through your search engine. Unofficial Skyrim Patches: there is a reason Arthmoor is convinced of his own superiority; most of the time he's right. SSE Engine Fixes: Totally forgot about that one. Right on, Gopher. I find it noteworthy how the sole purpose of three of your top 5-ish mods is to protect the Player/Consumer from the various forms of Bethesda's greed/incompetence. SMH. I find it increasingly unlikely that I will ever purchase or play TES6. I honestly am not interested in anything infected with that level of avarice and I will certainly not support it with my wallet. In any case, Cheers, Gopher. Cheers all. Rock on.
Personally im at the point where I'll be waiting a year after release before I'll even consider buying it. If the game play is better, and modding takes off, I won't let Bethesda ruin the elder scrolls for me.
I never knew about the auto backup mod but wow do I wish I had sooner. It's just as you said, sometimes I just couldn't play it! Better late than never, thank you.
Something not mentioned with regards to SkyUI is that if you want to use the vanilla UI, you will need a separate mod to disable it. These will require a bit of tweaking in MCM menu (I had to disable warnings and positioning to get mine working correctly). However, this shouldn't scare you off using SkyUI. The mods in this video are fantastically useful once you get them working.
Gopher throwing all of the totally not-sexy at us today so wondering what top 5-ish totally sexy mods he can throw at us 😂 Can’t wait for the next one. Love this list and need to start up another play through since it’s been years since I’ve played Skyrim.
As someone who has been watching gopher since the Dishonored (no powers) playthrough (so 2013, I think) I could have named the top 3 in the correct order. I didn’t think of the auto-backup thing, but it makes so much sense.
"I'm not really throwing sexy at you" LOLOLOL!!!! OMG I swear you should make another video titled something along the line of "My top 5 throwing sexy at you mods"
For what is essentially a list of boring functional mods (which makes perfect sense for a _must-have_ list, even if it might not be what people expect) the presentation makes it worth watching even if you know all this.
It's... interesting, seeing this after the changes brought about by the Anniversary Edition. Video's a time capsule into an older standard for the game.
Even if you use a controller on PC SkyUI is still a massive improvement over the vanilla UI. Serio's hotkeys is also an essential mod for me as it allows highly functional hotkey combinations with a controller which has really overhauled how I play the game.
In this day and age, it still boggles my mind when someone tells me they dont use skse because they dont like it or dont want to mess with their install, and i just look at the comment stunned at the single minded-ness of it all...
I mean I can understand if the conversation then proceeds to them saying they don't mod their game. If you are modding your game, YOU NEED IT. Plain and simple.
Xbox player here, I got two must haves: Ars Metalica - Break down items into materials. On paper it sounds small, but in action, it’s a total game changer. Realm of Lorchan(spelling probably wrong) - Alternative start+ Really good for character creation lovers and role players.
Glad to hear you're doing a top 5 of visuals etc. Although I agree with most of your choices... SKSE makes for a boring recommendation despite how essential it is. I hope you also do a top 5 for things that aren't utility/bug fixes/visuals! That's where the most fun recommendations are, followers, quests, armours etc!
Number 1 mod... ENDERAL! Now this rant, tho more informative than a rant, was... informative. Thanks Gopher! Wait, Skyrim had bugs... glitches? Thought twas common occurrence that mammoths dropped from sky.
For me its Inigo. If there is any mod I want on consoles it's that. He makes the game so immersive. Probably my favorite mod of any game. Hell I'd pay for it if the funds went to the creator.
My top 5.5 Immersive HUD (No brown nosing here, it IS good. Works out of the box.) JK's Skyrim overhauls (amazing additions make the game look more awesome) Skyrim reputation (NPCs stop treating you like a doormat) Timing Is Everything (allows you to choose when quests happen and turn off stupid vampire attacks) Convenient Horses (hilarious horn animation and your horse takes off when there's a fight) Passive Mudcrabs (because what do crabs have to be mad at me for anyway?)
Oh, I am loving this video with Gopher's exuberance ... and for what? For Skyrim SE, yeah! It is indeed still a good game and lets face it - its one of BGS' best creations. Maybe this year we can get an even better game from the Bethesda Game Studios. Hope dies last.

And that's not even a very big mod list :)
@@GophersVids Indeed :)
@@GophersVids Its a stater kit more or less XD
Skyrim never ends
@Bradley Zeh He has? I don't know, maybe we should subscribe to find out? XD
Nice list. I've been using 5 out of the 6 for years now. The SKSE auto-backup is a new one to me, but good god is it needed. Thanks for the recommendation!
As entertaining as you are in general, I like to imagine that this sort of thing lets a little of the real Gopher out to play. :)
Great to hear your voice again buddy. You first taught me how to mod when I was "young"
You've convinced me. After almost a decade of ignoring the skse, I finally just installed it and these mods.
I truly didn't know what I was missing, thanks so much Gopher!
Installing Sky-UI on "ye olde Skyrim" was the best thing i ever did. Cant play the game without it.
Id argue and say not having Underwear is more important than Shoes, tried it once and people weren't to fond of me walking down the street with my Dawnbreaker swinging about.
Watching this as 29/12/2020. Maybe it's a bit outdated but holy cow, how I've missed watching Gopher's videos
Is there a more updated version out there? Am pretty new to this. Only modded a bit of fallout.
Also, only Gopher could have an top 5 mod list that you really do NEED lol
Faaaaaccctsss
Also I really like his shoe analogy
Thanks for recommending the auto backup I’ve had that exact issue so many times and I had no idea this mod existed you’ve changed my life
Love it when Gopher makes vids to take the piss.
Excellent list; especially for someone coming to the game late.
Great you are getting back to Skyrim mod videos...hope you will do more videos of your recommendations.
The most prosaic top 5 skyrim mods list ever.
True.
lacking imaginativeness or originality...my, my, my
@@silverlemniscate Yes, because an ESSENTIAL mod list should be full of surprises that nobody else has thought of ..... my, my, my :)
@@silverlemniscate haha you also googled 'prosaic'
@@VictorKDurand haha ya, I look up definitions :)
You are the BEST Skyrim youtuber ever. peroid.
You are so clear with you pronaounciation, informative, entertaining, and more.
idk about everyone else but i look for these videos hoping these are the kinds of mods that are being talked about, there are plenty of videos about the cool and flashy but i really appreciate it when somebody talks about the essentials
Skyrim will always be a thing my guy. At least until TES 6 comes out, and even then Skyrim will always be in our hearts
Just like Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion. : )
@@Hare_deLune And people still play those games so i have no doubt in my mind skyrim will continue to be loved even after the next tes game comes out.
Skyrim will be a thing, proba0even more so to add the features from the next game into the previous game
We nevah even left
Watching Gopher videos is the only reason I started modding. First Fallout 4 then Skyrim. I would never have done it without Gopher tutorials.
The creation club and the whole hassle with updates that completely wreck your whole setup is the one reason why i'm still using the old Skyrim... it just works
That's for your videos Gopher.
Gonna be kinda peeved if Gopher isn’t a voice actor in Skywind.
The mods you need before you start modding. Nice.
I loved your instructional video with fallout nv mods. and once again I'm here again for skyrim lol can never go wrong with your vids
SKSE: "...like your shoes."
SkyUI: because mods.
IHud: "I made it because it was on my must have list."
(Witcher3: Aye, Wasteland Ghost rocks.)
SkyrimSE.exe Auto-Backup: Cos Steam doesn't care if it ruins your thousand-hour-saves for your heavily modded single player game.
Gopher is by far my favorite TH-camr and I am so excited for his content when TESVI releases
I never knew about the auto backup mod but wow do I wish I had sooner. It's just as you said, sometimes I just couldn't play it! Better late than never, thank you.
Always good to hear from you, Gopher!
Gopher's doing modding videos again!
YAAAAAY!! \o/
Returned to Skyrim and glad to see you're still going strong!
Most people would lose energy for a game over the years
Nearly 9 Years later and this man has MORE ENERGY!
Keep it up dude :)
SkyUI and iHUD before USSEP
"I can't believe you've done this."
Thanks for the iHud mod. I was sitting there thinking I really needed that exact mod earlier.
Thank you for making that hud mod! It's honestly super nice.
Skyrim The gift that keeps on giving ☺
i completely love his content. How does he not have more subs! LOL
Have a great weekend Gopher
Good to see this, been waiting for something like it
Taco
I'm way late to this game, but Gopher, you're my mod god. Love your videos, mate. Cheers!
Gopher throwing all of the totally not-sexy at us today so wondering what top 5-ish totally sexy mods he can throw at us 😂 Can’t wait for the next one.
Love this list and need to start up another play through since it’s been years since I’ve played Skyrim.
Keep up the great work Gopher your amazing and love your enthusiasm for mods!
The way he was doing the tv voice emphasis I was afraid he was going to hurt himself lol
Ive always loved SKSE because the page you get it from feels like a back alley drug deal, it looks soooo damn shady 😂😂😂
Thanks Gopher! Just started to play Skyrim after years of Fallout . Trying a new World of Game and you will Guide me through the Mods xDDD
Darn Gopher, what caught you that day? Such enthusiasm haha looking for your future videos!
OMG I swear you should make another video titled something along the line of "My top 5 throwing sexy at you mods"
...made completely out of LoversLab mods
For what is essentially a list of boring functional mods (which makes perfect sense for a _must-have_ list, even if it might not be what people expect) the presentation makes it worth watching even if you know all this.
I am soo gratefull for those 5 + mods!!!!❤️
You could easily take the number out of the title. Just having it be Gopher's TOP VISUAL MODS.
You never really stop playing Skyrim. I have spoken.
Me: Watches video normally with my usual pokerface.
Gopher turns around 5:22
Me: *happiness noise*
I just love how much he loves SkyUI xD
At this point mayby we need top 100 'Essential' mods :P
I like the fact Gopher noticed thuggysmurf's fallout mods :-D
It's... interesting, seeing this after the changes brought about by the Anniversary Edition.
On top of these excellent picks I would personally add Alternate Start - Live Another Life as a mod I absolutely can't play Skyrim without.
Gopher i enjoy your videos keep up the good work
Xbox player here,
I got two must haves:
Ars Metalica - Break down items into materials. On paper it sounds small, but in action, it’s a total game changer.
Realm of Lorchan(spelling probably wrong) - Alternative start+
Really good for character creation lovers and role players.
Just change the 'c' to a 'k' and you're golden. : )
Finally, an honest top 5 mod list. Any that don't put skse and skyui at 1 & 2 is trash. Although I would put USSEP at #3 not 5
Glad to hear you're doing a top 5 of visuals etc.
Wait, Skyrim had bugs... glitches? Thought twas common occurrence that mammoths dropped from sky.
hell yes, a TOP 5 video
SKSE is the power under the hood. The website isn't varnished and I LIKE it that way!
No you are wrong, your TH-cam channel is a must have mod!!
Amazingly, there is a mod that I didn't know about yet! 2 of them actually!
For me its Inigo. If there is any mod I want on consoles it's that. He makes the game so immersive.
Probably my favorite mod of any game. Hell I'd pay for it if the funds went to the creator.
I love Inigo! I dont know about ps but you can get him on xbox, the only follower mod I ever use. 🙂
Definitely "must-haves".
My top 5.5
Immersive HUD (No brown nosing here, it IS good. Works out of the box.)
JK's Skyrim overhauls (amazing additions make the game look more awesome)
Skyrim reputation (NPCs stop treating you like a doormat)
Timing Is Everything (allows you to choose when quests happen and turn off stupid vampire attacks)
Convenient Horses (hilarious horn animation and your horse takes off when there's a fight)
Passive Mudcrabs (because what do crabs have to be mad at me for anyway?)
more like top 5 essential file pluggins. but thanks for showing me that skyui had a map search i had no idea
Oh, I am loving this video with Gopher's exuberance ... and for what? For Skyrim SE, yeah! It is indeed still a good game and lets face it - its one of BGS' best creations. Maybe this year we can get an even better game from the Bethesda Game Studios. Hope dies last.
I'm still playing oldrim, I'll get around to SSE eventually
Only buying SE when Skywind or Skyblivion comes out. Really no point in buying it right now tbh.
I am still looking forward to Skyrim Together and Beyond Skyrim as well.
AFAIK SSE was free on PC if you owned oldrim (Steam)
