@@quackkuryu4680 already 90% in the way to Yokozuna after a straight 14-0 which helps him secured 2nd place of the tournament with his personal best bout record. Even if he lost to Hokuho tomorrow, he would still very probably be promoted to Yokozuna with the 14-1 record. What a journey for this great man.
He also seems to have great upper chest contact at the tachiai. He starts off low and level, then his back unloads like a powerful spring allowing him to open the opponent up, get a variety of holds, and take control. His defense is constant, he comes back from off balance as well as any I have seen. He's a titan, I wish he had been in perfect health the last few years, really test Hakuho.
Wow Chris 👌, what a great vídeo, both editing and script. Really enjoyed it. You are surely becoming the most interesting sumo voice in youtube. Congrats and keep it up. I am sure we all appreciate you dearly. Cheers
Thank you chris for another great video. I just want to thank you for all that you do. If it where not for your wonderful videos i would have never enjoyed sumo as much as i do. You give us the sight into something that has little to no englisch coverage. The news the analasys. You are my staple of sumo. You have made sumo a sport that i love. And i am really thankful that you are able to upload almost every day. Finishing one video i always look forward to the next.
I wish Asanoyama was more consistent. Sometimes he looks like a future Yokozuna and its awesome to see, other times hes like a maegashira out there lol.
if he become Yokozuna, Hollywood should make a movie about him... from ozeki fall to jonidan then rise to Yokozuna is a storyline too good to ignore... 😁
I've always rooted for Teru, since I first saw him when he was on his way down. I didn't know it then how bad it was, and that he had been ozeki but now was struggling to even fight at all. You could see the potential in him and it was sad to witness his decline. I used to mention him to my friend who got into sumo a while after me, about this really badass looking dude, like an angry Eric Cartman character (but with a wonderul smile!). He had never seen him in makuuchi. God damn it's good to see Terunofuji back!
Absolutely fantastic content Chris! Your knowledge & analysis is impressive and deeply interesting. Thanks for taking the time to put these videos together :)
It would be interesting to see what happens if he gets the next yusho and then second place in the one after that. They’d have to give it to him surely.
I am already supporting him since his return...his footsteps, techniques ...but unlike senior Harumafuji that knows how to compensate his strength with multi-techniques IMO, Teru has more raw strength. Hoping he can incorporate more from Harumafuji techniques. I really miss Harumafuji. The last match however kinda spooked me. For some reason, I knew Takakeisho had the lead, not naturally of him to "pull" the opponent arm back to the ring after pushing them forward...he has good yorikiri power...but like you said Chris...weigh lost/pushing force...Takakeisho has always been able to even push Hakuho with brute charges....
They failed to mention but it's also extremely impressive that Teru never hesitates to square up first, even though he's always bigger and nearly 450. Any extra time on those knees I'm sure is excruciating. You see different opponents like Hakuho take advantage of this at the beginning of a few fights.
Fantastic uphill fight to Ozeki! What gets me are the strange straight 3 losses of Taka in the closing stretch. But what is, is! Good luck to all this coming May basho. Thanks.
@@mrnippletwister7342 Takakeisho’s main strength, in my mind, is that he’s made ozeki with a fairly limited skillset and at a relatively young age. He should have ten more years in him, during which he will expand his capabilities enormously. I would not be surprised to see him challenge for some of the all-time records if he can stay healthy long-term.
I hope he reaches yokozuna ASAP for the sole purpose of securing a retirement plan. I'd rather him retire early and minimize health impacts. He could live another 60 years, it would be best to maximize how much of that time can be spent out of a wheelchair.
I really wonder about those legwraps, and how they work. They seem to have a brace of some kind inside, perhaps to keep the kneecap locked in place? I think the various bandages and their uses would be a great topic to cover, just an idea!
Because of the numerous knee surgeries he’s endured he’ll wear those knee braces ever match until he retires. The braces help so his knee won’t bend or twist in a lateral movement. Many NFL and division I football require all lineman to wear knee braces, injury or not as a preventative measure. Teru’s are just a bit more clunky and outdated
I don't think I've ever seen anyone so effective with that Kime style grip, and if there's a better comeback story in sumo it's one I've not heard before.
I’m not a fan of Terunofuji in his character - I find him too cold and serious to engage with, and too matter-of-fact to be truly inspiring - but his sumo and his will to overcome have been monumental. Full respect for this astonishing fightback; if he goes on to make Yokozuna I’ll be delighted for him along with everyone else. He’s the only rikishi who looks truly capable of it, which is incredible considering all he’s been through.
I love Teru and his comeback is inspiring, BUT having watched many Yokozuna, I still feel Teru needs a little bit more, and with his knee injury always lurking, I'm not sure he has that little extra. Cheers.
There is something that does bother me: Teru had a hard time squatting down to humbly accept his promotion in the presence of the Oyakata dispatched to bring his Ozeki promotion news. How long can his knees really hold up? Is he risking staying in a wheelchair for life in continuing this incredible run? ...Only time will tell.
You look to post sumo videos that are different. I’ve seen the awards ceremony on different channels but the return of the emperor’s and prime minister’s cups at the beginning of basho, with Information on what’s going on might make a good video subject
Definitely there's a Yokozuna caliber in him as long he continues his great performance. He could probably get the Yokozuna rank before Hakuho declares his retirement.
It's funny how Onosho beat Terunofuji a little bit as Kotoshōgiku would have. I still have a grudge against Terunofuji for how he ended Kotoshōgiku's career with a Hanka. Looks like Teru is going to stay as long as his knees will allow him. Avoid the double inside if you want to win... I think the word is out.
It's academic now, but as others have repeatedly pointed out, 9 wins wouldn't have been enough for promotion-double digits in the third basho of the Ozeki run is a requirement.
What is the referee shouting? It sounds like he is always screaming the same repetitive words every 5 seconds lol I have no idea about the sport - just a question out of curiosity.

Recommend watching high level judo as well. Both are absolutely gorgeous to watch.
What a savage Teru is! I was cheering for Takayasu but am so happy to see Teru’s career come full circle!
My thoughts exactly
This is Terunofuji’s time to shine. He his at his peak. I hope to see him become Yokozuna by 2022.
True, but I disagree that he’s at his peak. If his knees can recover even another 25% he’ll be unstoppable.
Next basho he will be promoted.
If he wins or is runner up in July there is a good chance he will be in late 2021 ????
