Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is okay that people dislike it, because that is their opinion. We cannot take their agency, nor change their mind. I too, am LDS--and love it. Let us be optimistic.
This song played at my baptism! It was introduced to me by someone who is very special to me!! The one that made me want to seek this gospel!! I love this song!!
Vocal Point consists of nine members, all amazing singers - all college students from BYU in Provo, Utah. This is one of my favorite arrangements of this hymn and truly touches my soul as I listen to their rendition.
Beautiful! My daughter wrote me from the MTC in Mexico and said she listened to this song before she left on her mission and it brought her such peace when she worried about leaving family. The music brought me to tears.
Its not the song that plays your emotions. Its the lyrics that connects with the soul and is able to move us into tears because they can relate to each other. That is something science can never explain why it happens the way it did. Besides you're not an atheist, you're God's child..we are all God's child..Bless You
Death is when we begin to truly live, Mishima. I'm glad you feel this from this recording. Perhaps you'd enjoy our daughter's version. I just posted it above.
Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain Leave to thy God, to order and provide In every change, He faithful will remain Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He has the past Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake All now mysterious shall be bright at last Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord When disappointment, grief and fear are gone Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul Be still, my soul
Infinitely moving!!! Merci Beaucoup!!! I play this piece on my violin and am sharing with friends and at a nursing home. It is so meaningful and they can sing from their song sheets. Yes, it brings tears and strengthens belief in how we are guided by our Great Creator in this journey and vale of tears. Gert de Laforest
Love Vocal Point! So glad to see more of their work up on TH-cam. Also while this hymn isn't on the album, the best album they currently have out is "Vocal Point Non-Stop"
Love this song and them! During this finals week it is very helpful to listen to this and know no matter what my efforts will be rewarded for the good (:
I cannot understand why people classify the "us" and "them". We are all Humans, and I totally respect ZenzioT for his comment. No matter who you are, this music is amazing.
Thank you so much BYU Vocal Point for all you do! You are an amazing influence to me spiritually, as well as chorally. Me and a group of friends are a young a cappella group just starting. We are even learning Nearer my God To Thee. Thank you so much!!! I hope maybe someday you can hear us sing it for you. That would be impossible though, I know.
@vamppio Finlandia :-) This is my favorite Orchestral piece. I have a hard time being impressed by anything but the original. Sibelius truly was a musical genius.
@vamppio - It's actually an older melody than the Sibelius version. Sibelius made his version later. Might be that he enlarged it, arrenged it to the big orchestra. But the original one is a spiritual song. That info was on 1 of these vids presenting this song. (Wishing a fellow Finn)
Similar arrangement different group. Sounds amazing. I prefer how this group doesn't change the tempo as much but still does a great job with sfz's and dynamics in general.
I'm no religious at all. I'm apparently classified as Atheist by the government. Just because I'd prefer a scientific explanation to why things happen, doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good song, with emotion and heart put into it. Well done BYU, well done.
@prestoneprice No way. Without looking at any of these comments, I just searched Finlandia because our youth symphony is playing it soon. What a coincidence.
Don't swoon TOO much-- it's a multi-tracked recording, meaning there are more than 4 voices with which to magnify dynamic changes. It's kind of like listening to someone use an autotuner-- it doesn't sound "real". Still, it's lovely...
@vocal point - Awesome twist in 2:20. No Finn will dare to do that to Sibelius :) @timomastosalo - No you are wrong. This is true and original masterpiece of one Jean "Janne" Sibelius. Composed 1899, revised 1900 as a part of Finlandia. These lyrics are older (or the Finnish lyrics younger) than the piece itself. Put "Finlandia_Hymn" and "Finlandia" to wikipedia.
Mea culpa. This audio track showed up among a group of "Barbershop Quartet" recordings. I (wrongly) assumed that this is what they were being represented as. At least I was able to discern that there were more than 4 "tracks"-- but I apologize if this came off as "impugning" them. As I said, it is "lovely"...
@cobrabelly If you have those spiritual experiences and a deep connection to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, you are probably further ahead than many active members! Last week in a sunday school we were asked "What is great about the Gospel?" and many ppl failed to answer...
I like this arrangement, and Vocal Point in general, but this recording has some serious pitch problems, especially in the first half, and starting with the soloist. Guys, I know you can do better than this!
I am grateful today that God has given us the gift of song
Thanku..mama died a few weeks ago..this is comforting
Listening to the praises bring me peace, I feel good
Who loves God. Send an Amen here👏😍
Amen.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is okay that people dislike it, because that is their opinion. We cannot take their agency, nor change their mind. I too, am LDS--and love it. Let us be optimistic.
Thank you for restoring my calm. AMEN fellas.
This song played at my baptism! It was introduced to me by someone who is very special to me!! The one that made me want to seek this gospel!! I love this song!!
I always feel on the verge when I listen to this song, so much power and truth to it and Vocal Point really brings both out....!
Vocal Point consists of nine members, all amazing singers - all college students from BYU in Provo, Utah. This is one of my favorite arrangements of this hymn and truly touches my soul as I listen to their rendition.
Why There are people dislikes this ?? This is amazing and i know it because i am a mormon i am an LDS i live it and i love it ..
Beautiful! My daughter wrote me from the MTC in Mexico and said she listened to this song before she left on her mission and it brought her such peace when she worried about leaving family. The music brought me to tears.
Wonderful. Can this group possibly hail from the same school that produced the obnoxious group "Noteworthy" ??!!
Great harmony!! love the musicality of this and great voices never could sing like this.

I met one of them! They are so nice and talented. Go VOCAL POINT
Beautiful voices.
Wow! The vocal dynamics elevate this already-awesome and touching hymn to another level! I am MOVED over here!
Very beautiful voices...
Absolutely heavenly!
My ward sang this song at sacrament last Sunday and I absolutely love this song!!! It gives me goosebumps. Yall sing it absolutely beautifully !!!
God is really good especially when He, the Good Lord created us and blessed us with such talent like this. God bless everyone.
So peaceful it encourages you not be afraid of death.
Death is when we begin to truly live, Mishima. I'm glad you feel this from this recording. Perhaps you'd enjoy our daughter's version. I just posted it above.
+Kjirstin Youngberg thank you
Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God, to order and provide
In every change, He faithful will remain
Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end
Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored
Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul

Love this song and them! During this finals week it is very helpful to listen to this and know no matter what my efforts will be rewarded for the good (:
I'm going through a really emotional time right now. this helps exponentially more than hard rock does any day.
Wow... talk about getting shivers
I cannot understand why people classify the "us" and "them". We are all Humans, and I totally respect ZenzioT for his comment. No matter who you are, this music is amazing.

15 people need hugs right now
James, you rocked this!! Still listen to this song almost every Sunday since I got it for the EFY in Otown. You're amazing!
Thank you so much BYU Vocal Point for all you do! You are an amazing influence to me spiritually, as well as chorally. Me and a group of friends are a young a cappella group just starting. @vamppio
Finlandia :-) This is my favorite Orchestral piece. I have a hard time being impressed by anything but the original. Sibelius truly was a musical genius.

@prestoneprice No way. Without looking at any of these comments, I just searched Finlandia because our youth symphony is playing it soon. What a coincidence.
Swoon away. Not a multi-tracked recording as you have described it. Vocal Point is a 9-man acapella group. This is how they sound live.
Don't swoon TOO much-- it's a multi-tracked recording, meaning there are more than 4 voices with which to magnify dynamic changes. It's kind of like listening to someone use an autotuner-- it doesn't sound "real". Still, it's lovely...
Nice

@SamiLaulajainen - Ok... another comment let me to believe that also the melody was at least partially older

Praise Jesus! Does anyone know what key this is in?
3:03 FTW
@filmguy24p i agree with you
@cobrabelly If you have those spiritual experiences and a deep connection to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, you are probably further ahead than many active members!
Last week in a sunday school we were asked "What is great about the Gospel?" and many ppl failed to answer...

@elem5284 a cappella singing hymns
@MrJackanthony how so?
@MrJackanthony Check out a group call "Voice Male" they are very good
5 people accidentally broke their mouse while trying to click the "like" button.
Not sure I understand this...please explain.
personally i think their cresendos are a little over bearing but well done
cool right?
Too confused and showy; can you not model 'be still'? I am trying to relax here!!!
I like this arrangement, and Vocal Point in general, but this recording has some serious pitch problems, especially in the first half, and starting with the soloist. Guys, I know you can do better than this!
Beautiful!!
WOW!
