Thank you. A thorough explanation of what is done and the reasoning behind it. I like your calm, well-planned approach. As a beginner, warping still intimidates me.
I am sipping coffee and watching... occasionally backing up and watching again. 😊 My recent adventures - a threading oops gave me opportunity to add a warp thread - (center of the fabric) IT WORKED😂 happy dance. I have also learned how successfully tie a extra wire heddle to the heddle rods , when i threaded off center and ran out on that side. 👍 . I needed a rest from garment shapeing (increase and decrease manipulated warp) Currently learning waffle weave. And switching my shafts to individual weights, ... from counter balance. . Looms are fascinating... and mind boggling 😅
Oh don't you just hate those threading errors? But having the knowledge to fix them is so satisfying. Being able to think on your feet and solve problems as you run into them will serve you well in weaving! What do you mean by switching shafts to individual weights? Is this a counterbalance loom thing? I've not work on a counterbalance loom. Thanks for watching and happy weaving ♥
@tangledwebsweaving .. yes it is a counter balance loom issue... I had all my shafts setup as counter balance, that was easier for me to understand > but to do waffle weave it's easier to lift each shaft as needed I only have 6 shafts assembled, so I re-did the tie-up and added weights - now I can do up shed or down shed on each shaft. I think as my skill grows, this setup will assist in doing double weave tube structure for garment shaping And now, I can understand the waffle weave sequence.
Awesome. I did this with my floor loom as when I was first starting out I had such a terrible time learning to warp... So I thought why not try it like I did with the RH loom.
I tried this too when I first got a table loom after my rigid heddle loom. Knowing how to warp a multi shaft loom is important but sometimes it's easier and faster to do it this way!
This method works for simple warps but a warping board is still my preferred method. Give this a try though and keep practicing on the board. Thanks for watching and Happy Weaving ❤️
Thanks for this video, I just bought my 8 shaft loom and have not yet received it, so watching videos in advance and I do direct warp with my rigid heddle loom also, was not sure you could do this for 8 shafts, now I see you can do it. Will watch more of your videos, I have watched some of your rigid heddles, hence this video popped in my feed. I am new to weaving, got my 1st rigid heddle loom mid Nov 2023, but I truly always wanted a floor loom, but no space for this here, so went with table loom instead. You use the same table to sit your loom on as the one I will be using.
I'm glad you found it helpful. I hope you like your 8 shaft table loom as much as I like mine. Direct warping isn't as easy on a multi-shaft loom as on a rigid heddle loom and you can't really create a cross. But it is possible and if you're doing a simple pattern you should be ok. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm just wondering why you didn't bring the warp yarn through the heddle and then through the reed to begin with before winding around the peg. For a simple 1-2-3-4 tie up on a 4-shaft I would think we could pull the yarn through the first heddle and then the appropriate dent in the reed, skip heddle 2 and the second dent and then pull warp yarn through heddle 3 and the third dent. Then repeat this sequence across the warp threads and wind on as per your video. Then it seems like it would be easy to gently extract one of the two threads in each dent/heddle and rethread it into the neighboring heddle 2 or 4 and through the skipped dent next to the dent from which it was extracted. It would cut the threading time in half because half of the threads would already be properly positioned in the reed and heddle 1 & 3. I haven't tried this on a multi shaft loom with Texsolv heddles so I don't know if there would be some difficulty winding on when the yarn goes through the heddle. But in my head it seems like it could work, though I can see how the process might get confusing on looms with more than 4 shafts. I just got a new-to-me 4 shaft table loom so I think I'll give it a try.
That's a really interesting idea. I've never thought of doing bit that way (I don't direct warp my multishaft looms very often) but I don't see why it wouldn't work. It would be similar to warping front to back where the yarn goes through the red and heddles before being would onto the back beam. The only difference is you have 2 threads going though the red and heddles. Maybe I'll give this a try on my next project. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
Thanks for the great idea snd appreciate the video. I have the same Ashford loom and haven’t used it much since I don’t have anyone to help me dress the loom to keep the warp taught. I have better luck keeping the warp tight on my rigid heddle loom using warping peg. Suggestion. . . It would have been nice to have the camera positioned where you were slaying in dents. Thanks again.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I also warp alone and use a system of water bottles to weight my warp. You can see me demonstrate this in this video (th-cam.com/video/GMU0_ICdtdY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yMWRNRa_4A-rlDRO) at about the 25 min mark. I use this technique on both the floor loom AND the table loom and find it works really well. I appreciate the suggestion about camera position. Because I'm my own videographer too it's not always possible to change camera position to catch everything. I probably could have positioned the camera a little better though. Thanks for watching!
I would appreciate a next video from here, I'm new to weaving and your video was helping me so much to start warping my table loom but now I'm stock. 😟
You might want to check out this video th-cam.com/video/pE976x_Xovo/w-d-xo.html. It's on a floor loom but the concept is the same. Maybe I'll do a multi part video of the whole process on a table loom.
I created the cross manually with the second lease stick. The first lease stick just slides in the loop and the second one I slide through after I manually cross the 2 threads in the read. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and Happy Weaving ❤️
So this video just shows how to get the warp onto the loom. Several of my other videos show the entire warping process but this one specifically might help th-cam.com/video/eegD3feOzxE/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching.
Hi Grace, I'm curious about the beaming process. I'm warping up my Ashford 8 harness, 16" table loom, just like yours. This is my first project on it. I beamed with the brake rachet engaged, so as I was windung on the rachet made the click click click sound. It appears you did yours with the brake un-engaged?? Comments? Thanks, jill
Hi Jill. I did beam with the brake unengaged as I was turning the knob but then would engage it when I pulled on the warp. I only did it that way because the clicking was sooooo loud lol. Doing it with the brake engaged is probably the correct method.
I've done this warp method before but not in awhile. It's not normally used on a multi-shaft loom but it does work with modifications. The warp turned out great ~ no problems. Thanks for watching.

Glad you found it helpful! Warping can be intimidating but just take is slow and be methodical about it and all will be well. Thanks for watching!

I like this way of warping. While I don’t have an Ashford loom, I certainly can use this method on mine. 😊 Thank you.
Yes, you can use this method with any loom. I've even used it with a floor loom for a short warp! Thanks for watching.

I am definitely going to try this. I've done a warp with a warping board 3 times and I still mess up. :) Thanks!

Thanks Grace. I have never warped with this method. Good to know about an alternative to the warping board.
You're so welcome! It's very helpful with short warps like this one. Thanks for watching,

Hello, I love your videos! I am confused how did you put the lease stick in behind the reed? I do not have a shed!!!

I love watching when she runs into a problem and talks it through so we learn from her. Real weaving challenges. Grace is an awesome “teacher”!
Any task done while filming is different from the same task without filming. Also, I learn a lot every time I see Grace under pressure.
