You know what observed is that no one noticed that Sora lost Biyomon. Sora was the first to know that her bond with Biyomon was running short; which is why she refused to fight along side everyone else. It was really brief but you can see her digivice also turned to stone or it just greyed out; just like Yamato’s and Taichi.
My theory as to why those three lost their digimon and no one else is because those three were stagnant/ stuck in their adult lives. Taichi and Yamato aren’t sure of their futures are they lack the passion of where they want to go. Sora is still struggling with her flower arrangements since she’s following her mother’s path. The pressures of living up to a family members expectations can really make you feel trapped. Menoa said it best when she said that once we reach adulthood our limitless potential is gone; after all kids have so much passion and potential. But Joe is the oldest of the team but he still has Gomamon. The reason the rest of the team still have their partners is pretty obvious; they found their passion; and in doing so their potential is still growing. The reason Menoa lost her partner is because she burned her potential to quickly; she didn’t enjoy her younger years like a kid should have therefore she lost Morphomon.
But yes I do agree with your point; Taichi, Yamato and Sora will be reunited with their partners again. But not because they want their kids to bond with them; it’ll happen once they have found their potential and goals again.

I really like what you said about Joe not losing Gomamon specifically because he knew what he wanted out of life! That was one question I didn't have a great answer for was why is Joe "mr. adult" Kido still have his childhood partner when Sora, Taichi, and Yamato are losing theirs. But like you said, Taichi, Yamato, and Sora were sort of drifting through young adulthood in a way that the others weren't! They need to lose their partners to find their own way and once they do, they'll meet again. :)

Yes I agree. My take on it is that they are certainly reunited, one they have started to move forward and live their lives. The ending of 02, once confusing, now makes sense-everyone has moved forward, unlocked potential and the link between human and Digimon is re-forged. One thing people havent pointed out is there is a line in the conversation with Genai, that yes, losing their digimon is inevitable "Unless you have more potential locked away somewhere.." To me, what this means is that Mat, Tai and Sora have to grow up and find their path. Once they do, their new potential is now unlocked...

@@theagronist6390 Thank you! I believe the message is that if you pursue your passions, you can always be young in spirit and have limitless potential. Such a sad but hopeful ending. In the end, we can all smile and know they are ultimately reunited; some how some way (digimon 02 ending confirmed as Canon). I am hopeful for another movie...Kizuna left it wide open. Will it be Tai and the original digidestined to save the day this time? probably not, their adventures, per se, are over. But as Tai says "who knows what tomorrow brings?" Still, as sad as this ending is, SO MUCH happier than Tamers ending..omg, had me a sobbing wreck for whole weekend. I wont even watch the finale with my nephew...

My interpretation of the Digimon concept is that as children these partner 'digimons' symbolizes their individual 'strengths' manifesting into digital monsters. These monsters would evolve and fight for their cause because the children are still too weak to tackle the various battles, at the same time helping the children in their respective growths. Now as these children are about to step into adulthood and having realized that soon they would have to say goodbye to their beloved partners, "we'll always be together" says Agumon, Gabumon, etc. This refrain suggests that even when the partner digimons are gone or formless, the strengths they've gained in their adventures together will forever stay with the child, who now is an adult ready to pursue his/her dreams with a resolve in it's most evolved form.

The main theme around the movie is that Menoa is a liar and lousy scientist. She says that all Chosen Children and their partners will eventually separate, but she only has herself as an example. She lost Morphomon when she was 14 according to the Blu-Ray extras. However, the context surrounding her loosing Morphomon is that she was pushing herself to act as adult because she skipped grades to study as a University student. She pushed Morphomon away and rarely interacted with her anymore, resulting in her closing herself from the other part of her soul. It is canon that the Digimon are the other part of the Children’s soul.
Menoa, in an effort to fit society’s expectations of a child genius in university, killed the part that was Morphomon. It’s why she views adults as miserable people and only going back in time can she regain her happiness.
Hey, WAIT A MINUTE! This is just a rehash of Ken and Wallace’s arcs from 02!
Anyway, the reason as to why Sora first lost Biyomon is also revealed in To Sora, Sora has already pushed away Biyomon, she is an Adult with Adult worries and can no longer deal with Biyomon’s supposed childness, or in reality, the physical manifestation of her childhood that she is supposed to disregard. Taichi and Yamato are also going down this path. They pawn off Agumon and Gabumon to their siblings to babysit, consider bringing them to class ridiculous, and expect adulthood to be a miserable state they will have to suffer through.
What Gennai actually meant is that there is the possibility that Partners would disappear in adulthood but not with every Chosen Child. Afterall the 02 kids aren’t that behind in age, they are also considered adults by society’s standards (except Iori, who is in Highschool), but from how they treat their partners they wouldn’t disappear like what happened with Sora, Taichi, and Yamato.
02 epilogue implies that they all get their Partners back they will, not because they will have children, but because they will have found their happiness and childhood again, or something equivalent to that. Their journey in life isn’t over just yet after all.

To me, Menoa definitely grew up too fast, idk how's she decided to think that becoming an adult would make her seem that she would have control. It's more of being able to grow in yourself as well as your environment that you begin to change.
I kind of understand how Tai and Matt did not know their place in the world just yet and so they had to distance themselves from their Digimon without realizing. When you think about how growing up works, to me, it's about being in tune with the parts of yourself that you grew up on as a child and bringing those hence forth to yourself as an adult. We may not be children anymore but those traits as what represents the crests for our OG digidestined is what makes us become who we are and how we can achieve the happiness we want in life in the process. Nothing ever ends. It's always a new chapter, new challenge, new adventure that makes us stronger and evolve further than before.

I grew up when Adventure came out and watched the series all the way through Data Squad. I believe that was the final season that was airing during my high school years. My FAVORITE part of the movie was when Matt and Tai were sitting in the restaurant drinking beer and talking about what they're doing after they graduate. I agree with you but I’m going to use more fo the phrasing that the movie did. Genai specifically said they could see their Digimon again if they had some hidden potential. The movie’s villain lost her Digimon so quickly because she set her life up and made a lot of critical decisions very quickly. Matt and Tai lost their Digimon when they finally narrowed down what they wanted to do with their lives. But growing doesn’t mean you lose all of your potential.
The villain never got her Digimon back because she kept living on the past and essentially closed off every opportunity she had. But when the other digidestined continue in their lives there will be more potential in their careers and relationships. It only ever ends if you picture adulthood as the end. Those criticism milestones in your life are where you decide how far you want to go. Graduating isn’t the end, getting the job isn’t the end, getting marrying isn’t the end. The end of your adventure is when you let it end.

Goku and company got better and had far more adventures past dragonball, in dbz and dbs. This is essentially digimon 01 ending to dragonball.
Original digimon 01 ending at 12
-digimon 02 taking place while the 01 cast is 15(16 for joe)
      Digimon tri ending at 17
      Digimon last evolution: 19/20ish
The 25yrs later epilogue is just that point we see them. Their kids of both 01/02 cast members, appear to be 5-10 yr old range. Meaning the digi destined got their digimon back about 15-20yrs after the last evolution.
-a small retcon of age. Since the 01 cast was 15 at the conclusion of the final battle in 02. So they'd be in their 30's when their digimon return. Going by age of their kids.

Here's what the ending of digimon adventure means to me: regardless of whether they meet with their digimon again (Digimon02), the point the series wants to make, or message, is that we aren't kids forever. Time comes for all of us to stop "dreaming" the way kids do and become adults. That's how our stories digi-evolve into something new. What will you do now? What will tomorrow bring you? Do you know? If not, that is okay. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end as do our childhood years and the adventures you had, the good old times, in the end they will become nothing but memories. It's sad but it's true. And your only option left is to board that next train heading... somewhere. This makes even more sense if you rewatch digimon02 epilogue after this. Our once digidestined heroes are still having adventures, just of a different sort (the average everyday life). It's time for the kids of the new generation to have their digimon adventure now, to dream like we did, as they too will grow out of it when their time comes.
The digiworld was always a fantasy world. Cutting ties with it represents growth. It's time to go out there and explore a new world now.
I am so upset I will never get the chance to watch digimon for the very first time again. Yes, I can always restart watching the series from ep1 but that's a walk down memory lane. My first adventure was already experienced. And just like these kids, I too have become an adult. Though it can be hard, it's time to get into the adult mindset and move on with our adult lives.
Thank you Digimon for such AMAZING childhood. What can I say? Perfect ending, perfect way to say goodbye to our childhood. sad yes, but the feels just make it the more meaningful and memorable :')
Someday, years from now when I'm much older, I know my heart will want to revisit the digiworld, so I will come back to you digimon, even if it is for an episode or 2, or just for a 10min nostalgia trip, but I will surely be back and for that moment right there I will be back to being a kid and be as happy as I remember this series making me back in the day. Because we always come back to the places that made us our happiest.

That was so deep man. I loved Digimon growing up, more than Dragon ball, Pokemon and other shows that were always on at the time. I just grew out of it after Tamers and didnt have time for it anymore with school, work, having my own kid and just life in general. That movie hit hard and the connection you made, just hits a bit home too much lmfao.
But my son is about the age that I was when I loved these shows and has been getting into anime. I showed him pokemon first and he loves it and once I told him about Digimon, he wanted to watch it right away. And he loves it. Then I find Digimon Tri, Last Evolution and now Digimon Adventure 2020 and it's like I'm a kid again. I get to watch the original anime all over again with my son who was the same age as I was when I fell in love with these shows and experience the new ones with him as well. It's such a trip that I now have a child who loves these shows as much as i did when i was younger.

My biggest gripe with this is the same one I have with these types of narratives in general, the idea we have to lose something to grow up and the idea theres an expiration date on potential, imagination and child like world view.
Using digimon, which are living creatures rather than toys makes this an even crueler message imo.
Im someone who was terrified of growing up for years because i thought it meant id have to stop liking games and animated shows I thought it meant i had to forget fun snd fantastical things-suck it up and become a boring adult with no fun interests or hobbies or enjoyment for childish things.
Society already pushes this idea so strongly as well and its dimply not true, adults can play pokemon, like digimon and watch cartoons, adults can get excited about works of fiction , cosplay and mess around and have innocent fun like going to funfairs, cinemas or searching for crabs on the beach
People do not change or lose anything by growing up the mindset that you do is depressing but a lot of ppl become a self fulfilling prophecy as they are cohered or bullied into giving up things tht are childish
Its a narrative i really reject
And the idea potential becomes limited is insulting as theres plenty of ppl who change careers and start new hobbies well into middle age and later life
The movie was sad and tear jerking but i font think the message was a good one the idea “your growing up so that partner youve had with you for years has to die bc your too old for it” is just not a good message or good way to handle living characters
Weve had mountains of lore that explains digimon are individuals and grow and exist as their own beings hell alot of them get entire character arcs and certainly dont stay the same
This isnt a bad movie, its gorgeous even- but reducing digimon to stand ins for losing your childhood just doesn’t sit right with me
Im all for smashing the stigma that ppl have to lose the things they hold dear to them as they grow up bc growing up is losing a part of yourself
Its simply not the case unless u let it be

Especially considering this ending literally contradicts the ending of Digimon Adventure 02 epilogue

Yeah, the idea that you have to lose everything when you grow up is awful & pushed way too much. I know Japan has this situation where careers take over most of your life, although you shouldn't have to give up all of the things that are really important to you. I was laughing so hard when he said that, but my guess is that since these two constantly battle with the Digimon it sped up their remaining time despite any untapped potential. I mean going Ultimate and then Omnimon multiple times probably burned out the clock like Gotenks using Super Saiyan 3 and that reduces the 30 minute fusion. Just a guess, but when it comes to T.K., Kari and the 02 kids it makes since why they would obviously have a lot more time left since they have a journey to go on that isn't quite at the same point that the older kids are at.

I think a major plot point we need to address is the fact that Agumon’s and Gabumon’s new and final evolutions were born from the bonds they had with their partners. That’s an obvious and significant plot point, as it represents the fact that their connections will never truly be lost. Sure, it may be severed for a while, as you mentioned, but they can always find a way back to each other. There are too many plot points from everything prior that point to the epilogue being possible too. Much of what was covered during 01, 02, and Tri involved the digital world constantly intersecting its the real more often than normal. Sure, some barrier may get established again, but it’s broken down too often for humanity to just forget or leave it alone. Throw Koushiro’s ingenuity, the ambiguous nature of digital gates, and a possible number of adult shadow groups that the last few outings threw into the mix and you always have a chance of the connection between the two worlds being reestablished. The real world just can’t forget what happened anymore or write it off rationally, like a Digimon attack being some sort of terrorist attack.

Hello! now, after recovering my hydration from all the tears, I decided to watch the movie again. Another observation I would like to point out is that Agumon and Gabumon dont resist their fates...they know it is coming. A poignant moment is when Tai reaches for Agumon and says "we will always be partners right"..you see Agumon hesitate. Also, just before Agumon leaves you see him comment about how big Tai has gotten..saying, "your grown up now..you dont need me anymore, your adventures are now your own." In the end though, I do think we will have another movie which will show them reunited, but I dont think it will be Tai and Matt with their partners or any of the orginial digidestined that save that save the day...their adventures are done, but that dosent mean they wont be reunited to help in some way. Just my 2 cents. Any thoughts?

Biyomon's even kept its ankle ring). Which can be restored to a digital egg (also confirmed). Kizuna made it clear to me they werent quite yet willing to let go of Digimon Adventure-there are too many loose ends. I believe when the next movie comes out (I hope its when, not if) we will likely see the 02 kids take the reigns with their final evolutions-and then will be discovered how to restore potential (potential is key as Gennai said). Likely the key is that the digidestined themselves have to "digivolve" by moving forward with their lives, following their dreams, becoming successful, starting a family etc..

What's so wrong with having friends and others with you *as* you grow? What's so wrong with this ending? Isn't it the point in life to grow with others? Not grow up and abandon and forget everything that makes it worth while? Especially a bond as deep as Digimon.

I feel like we needed an ending like that, even tho it makes us sad. They conveyed the "ending" feeling so well with visuals, music and interactions among the characters. Man, some of us, including me, grew up with Digimon.
We have matured enough to be able to comprehend and feel emotions of a sad ending and it's beautiful. We watched and participated in their adventures - we grew up with them, with the Digimon community ourselves. THAT was and is our adventure we share with each other.
I have dreamt about having my own Digimon only to wake up and get sad when I realized that was unreal. This whole Digimon world is unreal BUT I know I'm not the only one feeling melancholic (and borderline depressed) about a fantasy world.
We all share similar emotions about a world that never existed but wished to be part of it and we are now bidding farewell to it. It was a magical childhood and its magic persisted until our adulthood and still persists to this very day.❤️

It has been a year to day since I watched this film...Still, sad when I think about ending. I guess, comes back to when I was a kid and found Digimon and got to go into the Digiworld and see kids my age defeat evil monsters (bullies) with teamwork, dedication and heart. The second season came, and I got to live it again (albeit not with as much heart as the first) and it ended on such a happy note. Then, 15 years later, I got to re-unite with them in Digimon Tri. Such a wonderful throwback when I saw Tai and Agumon defeat Kuagumon again. Then, of course, the excitement when I got the Last Evolution DVD-"Oh, to be back with the Digidestined again" I thought. and then watched the movie...Sadness. All adventures must end, I know, but to end such a beloved series like the way they did. Im not the only one either, this film hit home hard with A LOT of Digimon OG fans. I used to compare it to the ending of Digimon Tamers..but we had one season with them. Many anime fans grew up with Digimon-- so this ending just cuts deeper.

I don't think it's the end of the Digidestined kids. I'm sure Tai, Matt and Sora will reunited with their Digimons again but that will only happen when they know what they found their passions. For example, Sora is following her mother's path as a florist but in the ending of Digimon Adventure 02 she is a fashion designer. So the Digidestined re-united with their partners when they have found their goal. Another example, let's take Joe, he didn't lose Gomamon and that's because he always knew he wanted to be a doctor, he had already found his goal. So Tai, Matt and Sora will see their friends again once they have settled into their adult lives. After all, your story doesn't end when you grow up or become an adult, it ends when you decide that it will. :)

I really liked the analogy you used here, because you honestly never really say goodbye to your hobbies if you truly love them. But while it doesn't fall flat, it doesn't always take something like having a kid to reignite that spark you had as a kid when pursuing them. Sometimes all it takes is the realization that you still *CAN* or otherwise that you can *NOW*. I'm sure if anything happened between Kizuna and the 02 ending, which, knowing digimon adventure, SOMETHING PROBABLY DID, BECAUSE SOMETHING ALWAYS HAPPENS, MILLENIUMMON HAS TAINTED THAT DIGITAL WORLD FOREVER, and Daisuke's group probably took care of it, but to me there's a zero chance that Taichi and co didn't get in on it in some capacity.
Plus there's the whole thing where, to my knowledge, Jo never loses Gomamon, so I guess that speaks for the fact that he actually knows what he wants to do in life. And who knows, maybe some of the other chosen children found their paths too before their partners vanished, and maybe the ones that did vanish showed back up when their partners found their path in life.

I just think they can co-exist because Last Evolution is clear they can no longer fight together, their bonds as guardians of the digital world are gone. But in 02 Ending you don't see them fighting, right? Gabumon and Agumon didn't cease to exist. Their bonds with Tai and Matt are as friends. When their kids eventually get into the digital world, I assume Agumon and Gabumon are also their to greet Matt and Tai. I think it's about the original cast giving up their role as digidestined permanently but that doesn't mean they can no longer be friends or eventually have some way of meeting.

Dude, your theory was hands down absolutely true in my case.
I haven't watched Digimon in years, the last show I saw was Frontiers. But Digimon had a special place in my heart. After ao many years I became father and I started showing my son the shows I watched when I was young. So I started rewatching Digimon with him and got to find about the tri films and kizuna. I watched Kizuna for myself and it did hit me like a brick (I cried like a bitch). All those emotions and nostalgia came over me mixed with the happiness about my son enjoying the same show I did as a child. After all those years I was reunited with "my digimon" in my 30ies.
I finally ended up on this video, searching for "will we ever see agumon and gabumon again". And everything you said made 100% sense.
    Thanks for your video!

That’s because we don’t get a story with Ash. All we have with him is an eternal 10 year old who constantly gets reset and does the same crap every season. Digimon we have a new cast every season. Ash is eternally a child. Digimon we get to see the kids grow up and move on into the future. Pokemon is a catch em all. Digimon focuses on the bond between partners. Now yes Ash has always had Pikachu with him but really think about how many times that little dude has got shafted: DP focused on Chimchar and Infernape proving his strength in the last fight with Paul, BW he got reset because of bullshit plot reasons, XY the focus was on Greninja and Ash-Greninja, and lastly don’t get me wrong (I love him, he’s one of my favorite Pokémon and I always choose him as my starter) but how many times has Charizard showed up to steal the spotlight for a battle Ash couldn’t currently win only to leave right after? Digimon has always stuck with the bonds between partners (don’t start talking crap about Frontier). Hell, tamers showed the kids feeling the same pain as their partners after a certain point. We get to see the adventure cast actually GROW up and go on to do or struggle with things we as everyday people can find relatable that we will never see with Ash.
Anyone who says Pokemon is better has either never truly watched Digimon, is in denial, or has brain damage.

Pokémon isn't meant to have a story at least not with Ash. Its all about battling and trading with friends and family. If you want a Pokémon series were the kids grow up I've heard the Pokémon adventures Manga does just that. Also if you look at the history of Pokémon it wasn't even supposed to last as long as it did. No one cares that Pokémon doesn't have a story again its all about the meta game. How do you folks still not understand this after 20 years? I don't care for anime and I love video games. Yet the even the Cyber Sleuth Stories managed to contradict themselves. Hackers Memory rids a lot of what was in the first game. I'd rather not watch a Digimon show that dose the same thing. Sad to here this movie did this to one of its own shows oh well. That's at least twice they've done this now.
P.S. A lot of the kids that grew up with Pokemon don't even watch the show anymore I don't even bother with it. I've moved on to Star Trek, Harry Potter, Star Wars.ect Can't wait for the Crown Tundra DLC for Sword and Shield that's going to be amazing.

@@KD-kb4wv “no one cares that pokemon doesn’t have a story” that is solely your opinion and anyone who shares that opinion. Plenty of people still care about Ash’s journey since many of us have been around since his journey began. If no one really cared about the story then people wouldn’t have been excited for the possibility of Ash winning the Kalos league against Alain. Yet if you just casually strolled through social media or TH-cam recs you would have found many people around the time speculating that it was finally his time or the complaints that were made when it turned out it wasn’t. Pokemon started out as a game before it was ever adopted into an anime but so did digimon. I’m not saying every season of digimon is great, they’re not, but each season we get a new journey to to make a new opinion. With Ash all we ever get is the same old shit that for all his experience he shouldn’t make the mistakes he still does after so long or the fact there doesn’t seem to be a resolution. Hence why people get turned off from the anime in the first place. And if no one really cared about it then new seasons of the anime wouldn’t keep coming out.
Take Harry Potter, do you think it would be the same story if Harry never defeated Voldemort and just spent the rest of his life on the run looking for Horcruxes? No deathly hallows, no final battle, or epilogue. Just an endless search with no conclusion in site. Would that piss you off? Because it would piss off a lot of other people, but the simple act of being pissed off means you care. Each pokemon game is a new region with a new protagonist we never see outside of their specific game. The difference is that with Ash we’ve been able to go through every region to meet all of the different pokemon. But yet, where does it end? We know how every pokemon game ends, they’re all the same after all. You battle every gym, defeat the elite 4 and champion, and then become the new champion of the region yourself. We have never had that with Ash, someone who at times has battled opponents above his weight class and yet at the end of the day still wanders the regions with seemingly no end to his journey in sight. We still don’t even know specifically what being a Pokémon master entails after 20 years. And people have debated about the topic. Why? Because people CARE to know and speculate.
Just cause you don’t care about something does not mean that opinion is universally shared. People who don’t care about the anime fall into 2 categories: they either never cared to begin with or they just got tired of it all. And it’s people in this second category who after almost 20 years who got hyped about Ash winning the Kalos region.
I myself don’t care for any of sun and moon onwards. Doesn’t mean I am not fond of previous seasons or I wouldn’t tune in to see if Ash ever reaches a conclusion to his journey. And if you do the same? That means you actually care to do so.

In the very very end of the credits scene we see some official documents given by Tai to the school. Once it's translated we see it's written there Tai is interested in politics and solution of increasing Digimon problems in the human's world. He believes there can be a way where both Humans and Digimon can live together in peace.... this clearly confirms he's going to be diplomat and reunite with Agumon Again.... Same goes for Matt.... please watch credits you' ll see He's definitely going for his 02 Ending.... Also Davis (Daichi) is working in a restaurant to learn how things are getting done... others are also in the same/similar directions showed in 02's ending... they don't need to push everything to the in front of our eyes... they did hint 02 Ending is Canon in their way. Also Yamato (Matt) and Taichi say they are going to find a way to reunite with their partners again in the last scene before the credits... What should writers do more than this? [This is only my personal opinions]
There's 3 fact that I think it was worth to explain, 1) Why is Meicoomon back? 2) How did Sora lost Biyomon? 3) What happened after the movie?
    1) Why is Meicoomon back?
    - If you have watched Tri - 6, you will hear a digivice beep sound at the end of the movie. It is said that it was Meiko's digivice beep sound. And I saw a reddit thread says that the Director did confirm it was Meik's digivice, and left viewers to think about the rest of the story. In my opinion, Meicoomon was revive at that time.
    2) How did Sora lost Biyomon?
    - Well if you watch the opening scene when the music begin, u can see Sora's digivice is already in Count Down and left few lights left. And during the night of battle, Biyomon ask Sora if it is ok if Sora doesn't go to the battle, Sora held tight Biyomon saying she just want to be with her. After Taichi blow the whistle, Sora holding her digivice (turn to stone). So Biyomon has fated during the battle.
    3) What happened after the movie?
    - During the ending credits, you will see that each of the digi-destined has live on with their own lives. But did you noticed why some digi-destined has their digimon and some doesn't? For example, did you see all the 02-Digi-destined (include Takeru and Hikari) have their digimon? And the rest 01-Digi-destined such as Joe, Mimi, Koshiro didn't have their digimon? Properly a spoiler that indicate their digimon have faded away as well. Not sure though...
I'm not 100% sure what I said is true but I just want to share with everyone my personal opinions. :) Thanks for reading.

Was thinking about this and how it does lead to the 02 finale. Yes, by the end of this it is established that as adults were have reached our potential and we will no longer have the ability to have Digimon partners. But, remember what Genai says, that you may be with your digimon again if you have untapped potential. Notice how at the end 02, they all have kids and their digimon. I know of no other way to dive into untapped potential than to start a successful and loving family...the message being that you must move on with your life if you are to be re-united. I do think that we will get another movie showing the digidestined re-united with their partners, but it wont be them that save the day this time. They are done with their adventures, but that dosent mean they wont be reunited and help in some way.
Man, Digimon has a way of hitting you right in the gut, dosent it?

I felt so effing sad when Mimi and Palmon didn't get to say goodbye like the others. And then Palmon running to catch on the bus? That whole scene is iconic, nostalgic, heartbreaking and I'll forever cry to it. Also this is why I freaking love Mimi and Palmon's reunion in episode 5 (I think) of Digimon 02💚💚💚💚

This is a good analysis. And very accurate. I hadn’t been a fan of Digimon since I was 16 or so. I left it behind and literally said “I’m done with Anime that explore the “monster fighting” premise. I would rather watch anime with characters who fight for themselves” and stopped watching Digimon for YEARS…. With hopes of seemig more grown up….. Until the Pandemic. I reignited my love for this franchise in a BIG way. And now I’m a bigger fan of Digimon than I have ever been in the past. Real adulthood is realizing you can still show maturity while enjoying the things you enjoyed when you were young. Being in touch with your inner child makes adulthood easier, and learning how to balance both shows True Maturity. Tai and Matt will realize this in the future, which is how they end up reuniting with their Digimon later.

Thank you for this explanation. I have 3 plothole questions if someone can explain this to me. First, what happened to all the plot threads from Tri? Geni is good again with no comment and the lingering threat that was alluded to wasn't addressed. Second, how can anyone open a digigate (specifically Izzy in the beginning of the movie) this was supposed to be a D3 specific function that suddenly doesn't matter. Third, is there an in universe explanation for why this didn't effect Joe earlier? I understand the real reason the only people in the world who have are Tai and Matt is because they are the main characters but there are older Digidestined then them. If we take college as the cutoff point (Because this process is tied to maturity not age) then why is it when Joe found his direction in life and applied himself in college during and after tri this didn't affect him. Why has this seemingly never affected anyone in the world before? Izzy has a contact list of 99% of the Digidestined population in the world and not one of them posted on the group chat "Glowing ring has appeared, please help!" I understand the out of universe reasons but this makes no sense in universe and want to know if anyone has answers. Also when did cellphones become digivices?

What you said absolutely does make sense but it felt more like a rationalization for an ultimately disappointing movie than an explanation. I had my criticisms for the Tri movies but I was so disappointed with Last Wvolution Kizuna that it made me appreciate the Tri movies and grateful for what they did give us.

Interesting theory, I could see it making sense like that. It does make me wonder if the ending was what made Hiroyuki Kakudo exit production due to the story breaking the established canon. If it wasn't the sudden revelation of Digimon fading away then I wonder what issue could have been.

The ambiguity of the ending of Last Evolution in relationship to 02 is a bit irritating. I won't deny that. But I do appreciate what kind of story they were trying to tell, and leaving the question unanswered with a hint of hope is a good thing in its own way. It's better to leave in a little mystery, because it relates to the uncertainty of real life. It also allows us to identify with the characters better since we also don't get our desired "happy endings." Plus, I think we all enjoy reading/watching theories and fan-fictions, so bring 'em on, Internet!

Im 32. And I've come back and left the things i like a bunch of times. I have a very close friend from the 4th grade in still close with. But we only talk once like every few months. We have gone years tho. I've had the same relationship with Digimon. I havent really thought about it in the past 6 years, but I picked up Digimon World Next Order like a month ago. Im basically picking back up from last left of with something I love. Just like with my friend. We catch up, we reminisce, we talk about whats new. Im looking forward to new game coming out in July.

Absolutely beautiful explanation man, it's a great way to break it down and it makes so much sense. This movie hit me hard just like toy story 3. You are absolutely right, I'm a father now and I have gotten my son into so many of the cartoons I used to watch, I gave him some of my old toys that I had stored away, we build legos together I taught him to draw like I used to, it's all part of life. I now make custom action figures and my son is my biggest fan.

In the opening you see Sora’s digivice already almost out of time which is why she tells Piyomon that they won’t fight with the others. Sora was actually the first to show signs and the first to lose her partner from the original crew.

I just watched the movie and cried for like 10min after the end because the ending and all the Interpretations connected with it and real life are so emotional. I love digimon it was my fav anime as a chil and like the 1st i rly remember liking. Especially the old animes and their openings are great teachers for Children. They taught me what friendship is like, to chase my dreams, never give up, that you have to go through hard times to grow etc. Its so amazing!

personally I don't like the movie BECAUSE of the ending, so I just ignore it's existence for the most part, same for Tri (the only good things out of those films were the Meicoomon line and Omegamon Merciful Mode, as for Last Evolution, Morphomon is cute, so that's nice) plus it's ideology clashes with the one I have in my own fanfic I'm writing, and I personally believe that just because your future is set in stone that your friend that helped you grow shouldn't have to leave you (which REALLY doesn't work for my fic considering how the action keeps ramping up higher and higher so they kind of need the Digimon to stay)

I agree I hate the ending and it really feels like the writers were trying to rip off
Hideki aino/gainax with the sad ending and that the message of the film is literally "grow the fuck up" it's goes completely against Digimon as a series and franchise,
The sad ending was forced and it completely contradicts the ending of Digimon Adventure 02 where we clearly see all of the digidestined now adults still have their Digimon, creators even say that this movie is in the same continuity as the ending of Adventure 02

    • @naquingreen1603

Ending to last evolution is terrible and it reminds me of the FORCED sad ending of Digimon Tamers (Digimon fans have still not gotten over that and we never will)
Like seriously did they have Hideki aino as part of the writing crew with last evolution: kizuna because the ending literally feels like something that he would write

  • @IcefireC67

honestly hate the ending to this movie
not only does it contradict the ending of 02, but shoehorns in a message to "grow the fuck up" I find very spiteful to fans who have been around since the very beginning

    • @thedigiknow
      @thedigiknow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

My counter argument is that Digimon has been about saying goodbye, or in your words, “grow the fuck up” since the very beginning with the train scene out of the digital world all the way back in the 1999 finale

    • @IcefireC67
      @IcefireC67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@thedigiknow I mean, yeah
But, idk. The way this movie did it felt a little conceited and forced (to me anyways)
If the whole "you lose your digimon when you're older" thing wasn't there I would've probably liked the movie more
But, because that's there I just dont
I think that's the wrong message to send in a movie like this. It also doesnt help that this movie contradicts the ending of 02
Which, I'm hoping they address in the next movie coming out

I never went through that journey. What made me happy as a kid still makes me happy as an adult. I always think in the back of my mind that I must be a strange Person. But that's me I guess. My digimon never went away. I never put it down. I just let it evolve with me. My mother gave me a camera when I was 5. Taught me how to develop film when I was 7 or 8. Manual camera controls when I was around the same age. As I grew, my childhood love of exploring, got a camera added to it. Now as an adult, I explore on my bike with my iphone ready for photos. And just like when I was little, I have headphones on and poking the universe to see what there is behind every leave or door for my iphone to shoot. My digimon has been with me since I was a child. And still is.

For me the whole kizuna movie are symbolize moving forward and have a passion on what you doing. In the movie we can see, taichi and yamato "stuck in the past" and don't want to move forward and doesn't have a passion to try new things. Same with sora with her family "business". Notice how joe the oldest of them and have job but he still has his digimon? Because joe found passion on what he want to do. Same with others, they all have passion on what they want to do.
