I feel like the title of Vampire Academy makes the series seem a lot more YA and immature than it actually is. Fun fact Richelle mead didn’t choose the title “Vampire Academy” she had something else picked out but the publisher said no. I love Richelle, my favourite series are Vampire Academy, Bloodlines and Age of X. The gossip girl vibe your getting is not in the entire series, the storyline with Mia being a mean girl is only really in the first book, they actually become good friends with Mia by the end of the second book. They get WAY
more series and mature as you go on, only the first 2 books are really YA. These books get better as you go on and the spin-off (Bloodlines) is even better than Vampire Academy, it’s way more mature and darker and I love the way Richelle builds her world
