- The 2018 Tony-winning revival of Once on This Island is heading out on tour and offered the press a sneak preview of the performances that audiences across the country will see. Take a look as the company sings the opening number, "We Dance," as directed by Michael Arden, who earned a Tony nomination for his reimagined version of this life-affirming Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty musical.

I’m not the biggest fan of the original but the way the director reimagined it does bring so much life to it, like you said. I would definitely recommend seeing the tour!
Charlotte McAleer i’ve been in it. twice. i know the show like the back of my hand. it’s not well written at all-and it’s a musical about race relations in haiti written by two white people. there’s nothing in the script itself that makes it redeemable, except that some of the harmonies sound cool, but it’s the productions/casts that make it wonderful, as i stated. the script and music border on uninspired.

AJ Lapray And that means what? It’s overrated? And they were only singing with accents you also were possibly in a bad seat? Just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean it’s a bad show and definitely doesn’t mean it’s overrated it got minimal attention that’s why it closed down. That’s what I said it’s not overrated.

I was on Running Crew for a production of Once On This Island and have been obsessed with it ever since. It took every once of will not to dance in the wings when I had to help Asaka and Erzuli with quick changes haha
One of my absolute favorite musicals. I saw it way back with the OBC in 1990 maybe? Somewhere around there. I love this! Hoping to catch it's DC run.
