  • Seals have been symbols of identity and authority in China for more than 2,500 years. This exhibition features over 100 exceptional seals made by artist Li Lanqing, who has revived and transformed this traditional art.

When I visited Beijing in 2011, I had a seal carved by an artisan who was set up at the jade marketplace. I didn't realize it was a recently revived artform!
It was interesting to watch him work. I'm a jade carver, but all the seal materials available were much softer than jade. We watched the artisan working for about half an hour to produce my seal. It would have taken much longer, and much harder tools, if it had been made from jade!

So these pieces of work.... where does it reside now ? Does it sit within the British museum as an artefact, or does it sit in the Beijing's museum ???

I have a giant jade seal passed down from my grate grandfather, it is the size of 6 full books stacked. One corner is broken but repaired with gold I was told/might be brass?
Where do I go to get more info about it?
I also have a white dish with blue script on it filled with red ink/paste.
Not trying to sell just want info on it....

@@MarcusCato275 I have no clue, just trying to find a place to take the seals my family has on our entertainment center to find out more about them.
Couple people keep talking a special seal but I'm not sure, we have a bunch of them from family. Also a bunch of ceramic thingies filled with a red paste to use with the seal.
Only one I've actually used is the one my grandfather got me when I was born with my name. It's tiny compared to our big one I often wonder if most of them are just display pieces.
      Idk
Hopefully at some point someone online can direct me to someone knowledgeable about them so I can take them in and learn more about them.
      O.o
