'Dinner parties are not the place for jokes' . Edgar Allen Poe is me. I love him so much already. And can we please talk about how beautiful Lenore's dress is. DAMN.
Emily Dickinson getting sassed by a ghost is pure literary perfection, along with the blank role. Poor Emily. And bringing uninvited guests to a Murder Mystery Party is grounds for them getting murdered early. ;)
Phoebe Shelor Yeah, I forgot that, but still, this is EA Poe we're talking about. She's just lucky he didn't vanish only to be found later on buried in a wall.
I just love, love, love, that reveal at the end. It's just so candid and devoid of melodrama. Also, love Dostoevsky in this one. A man who thinks 'a spirit for a spirit' is funny has my vote.
I was going to get mad and full on write a long defensive argument until I saw who posted this. *tips hat* good day Lizzie I mean Charlotte I mean what
I love everything about this, but my favorite parts are the nods to the movie Clue, especially the singing telegram reference. Can't wait for next week!
I just sat down to watch it all from Trailer to Epilogue. Recently I read a few of Poe's poems, so when Sean said "who is that rapping at my chamber door," I completely lost it. Had to stop the video as laughing so hard.
Even after adding all this new colourful cast, Lenore is STILL the funniest thing about this first part. Thank you for creating her and bringing her to life !
When Wells says he knows who did it, is it a reference to his novel, 'The Time Machine'? Because that would be really awesome ;) (Though perhaps he really does know who did it!) Also, when Wilde says 'Orangutan', I bet it's a reference to Edgar Allan Poe's detective novel with Dupin ('Murders in Rue Morgue'?). Either way, what a great start to the series, I'm super hype for the rest of the episodes!
Struggles of being fourteen: I haven't been sentient long enough to get all the literary jokes. Every single author is on my tbr (Eliot wasn't before, but she is now!), but I've only actually read a few of them.
Can we comment on the inconsistency of Lenore's ghostiness? Can she pick things up or not??? She can't pick up plates but she can hold vodka and burned bread? I need answers.
+Ms_Therese but Poe says "Lenore will take your coat" even though the vlogs establish that Lenore can't pick up anything including plates, food, and a flower that Poe gives her
Daniela Chamorro It might be for the plot *spoilers up ahead* Charlotte Brontë always forgets that Lenore is a ghost, so when Charlotte tries to kill her. Lenore is buying time for Oscar to do something to both if the Brontë sister. So her (Lenore) not being translucent and her being able to hold things it displays the idea of Lenore being fully alive. Or it might be your reason.
You GUYS, this came out TWO YEARS AGO and I've watched it a ZILLION TIMES and it's STILL the BEST THING EVER, I just CAN'T GET OVER IT, the cast is so PERFECT, the writing is BEYOND BRILLIANT, it was filmed SO BEAUTIFULLY, I just...I feel like something this amazing shouldn't be allowed to exist
revisiting this and man the slight differences in the score when each of the characters arrive at the door is such a nice touch! major props to the composer
This has quickly become my favorite thing to watch on TH-cam. Everything about it is perfection - the setting, the music, the dialogue, I love all of it so, so much. I can't even decide who's my favorite of the characters. Every time I watch it I find myself wishing none of them had to die for the story to progress because I want to see more of their hilarious interactions
Another TH-cam searching for videos accident/recommendation that I now even love it more! Last night, I searched "mystery murder party" and I scroll down until I reached this episode.
It's here! It's beautiful! I love getting all the character introductions but I'm also just loving that classic Lenore-Poe dynamic again. And... not soup-er surprised by that ending.
So for my college's Halloween celebration, we're doing this as a play! I'm HG Wells and SO EXCITED to bring this to life. We had to cut a lot of the scenes, and change some of the stuff around, but I think it's gonna be pretty cool. Nothing like this, of course, but still cool. And I have to say I am honored to be performing this and I can't wait for it to happen!
Or is it only a red herring? Or red soup. What if his chair was poisoned? Or he was injected with poison as he sat down, or as he passed everyone around the table?
I watched this entire thing for the very first time at Bufferfest and hell I'm going to watch it again I enjoyed it so much. Honestly, this was more enjoyable than a lot a films and shows I've watched lately I'm so glad I came to the screening. It was so great meeting you guys at the festival as well I can't wait to see more stuff from this channel ;w;!
can we all just be so so thankful and so so appreciative that something this amazing and high quality is available to watch on youtube for free?!?! what a time to be alive, thank you shipwrecked for all that you do
This has been so perfectly made, and got me back off reading classics again. Thank you for creating such a great production (love all these characters so much)!

I just finished watching A Very Potter Musical & sequels, so it was quite a pleasant surprise to see two of my faves (Joey and Lauren) here! I came here for my Lizzie Bennet Diaries dears but got so much more than I expected.
I'm glad it's finally here. Oh Sinead you are amazing. You have a lot of choices for a bae Lenore. Lauren is really pulling off George Elliott. I love all of the clothes.

"Now time for everybody's favorite part: The Rules" this is maybe the most Edgar Allan Poe line of the whole bit. I love it.
No, that would be
Nevermore
Can you imagine how much stuff they had to do for the web-series?
As lovely as Annabel is, she DID bring a plus-one to an invite-only dinner party...
Edgar probably gave her an extra invite, especially since he said before she arrived that she would bring a plus one
'Dinner parties are not the place for jokes' . Edgar Allen Poe is me. I love him so much already. And can we please talk about how beautiful Lenore's dress is. DAMN.
The costuming is magnificent!
I know! I resonate with Poe so much right now! (and all of the time)
I think they said in a bts bit that it is the Rachel wedding dress form the “friends” pilot
I am just seeing this film for the first time. Where I am from, we consider this classic
Lenore's loser hand sign as Eddie walks by is everything.

Poor Eddie.

think my fav line in this episode is "You can never be overdressed, or over-educated." Gonna start using it when i turn up at parties!
That's a real Oscar Wilde quote! :D
oooh even better!!! thanks for telling me! not really familiar with his writings. Love how they integrated the actual quotes! :D
His writing is so good. Importance of Being Earnest is hilarious, and some of his quotes are amazing.

"A spirit for a spirit" was the best play on words
And his laugh afterwards
It’s a double meaning
A humorous play on words,
And that’s where the comedy comes in
Brilliant start!! Pity Emily Dickinson hasn't arrived yet.
Who?
Ohhhhhh do you mean _Irma?_ That makes more sense...
who's that? is that a cat i don't know her
Who?
Ohh Emily! No wait I'm thinking of a different Emily
George Eliot is my goddess
Same
you mean god, right? ;)
I think you mean God

No goddess because god is dead

Not to worry, he has perfect pitch

JK Oscar Wilde sorry not sorry

me too tbh. lenore takes second though :)

Daniela Chamorro Lenore's a ghost?
Daniela Chamorro It might be for the plot
*spoilers up ahead*
Charlotte Brontë always forgets that Lenore is a ghost, so when Charlotte tries to kill her. Lenore is buying time for Oscar to do something to both if the Brontë sister.
So her (Lenore) not being translucent and her being able to hold things it displays the idea of Lenore being fully alive.
Or it might be your reason.
Lenore is a ghost but as she explains, there’s some stuff that she turns “corporeal” for such as drinking or carrying stuff.
