We’re already frustrated and angry et al. The govt. are going their own way - they don’t want to listen. There’s not one statesman within parliament, not one. We have a PM who no one voted for. We have illegal immigrants coming into our small island country, who are housed, given medical care, dental care, money. They don’t provide these things for the natives of our beautiful country. Appointments with doctors is near on impossible, same with dental care which has become inordinately expensive…. You are spot on - we’ve had enough. Many many people signed a petition against joining the UK to the WHO who will take our Sovereignty and we’ll be under a dictatorship. But as I, and many others point out, there are more of us than there are of them
Yes! We are the majority! If we come together & stop giving in to hopelessness we can turn this around! Get out and vote (Reform, SDP, UKIP.....anyone but red/blue/yellow - even if it means spoiling your ballot) and join the call for change in London, Parliament Square Saturday June 1st. The fight back is starting, there’s hope.

I haven't had a dentist for 5 years, mine upped and went to Spain, and every practice I approach are not taking new patients on, I had to get emergency treatment last week to have one tooth pulled. Yet I read that some illegal who came from a safe country, France, has medical and dental care on call. This 88 year old has had it with these criminal politicians, it's Reform for me.
Well it is now 12th Aug 2024. There are riots on the streets like we've never seen before. Everyone is disillusioned. I live in my little bubble and try to live in the light. Bless you Shanta

Very interesting. Think I know (hope), who can steer us out of trouble. You're so right about the pagan remedies, can't get doctors or dental appointments now, only getting worse and worse with all the strikes and influx of peoples with different beliefs. Nigel Farage suddenly came on the scene and headed up REFORM…. Over 4;000,000 people voted for him. However because of our screwy electoral system they’ve only got 5 seats in parliament.
On the other hand Kier Starmer who won the election is noted in one headline to be the most distorted in history. They somehow won over 400 seats with only ONE third of the vote. We’re all thinking something has to be done to update our back to front electoral system.

Australia held a referendum on becoming a Republic in 1999. I have never heard of any suggestion that they wish to leave the commonwealth. The two are quite different subjects. I think Ireland is the only country to become a Republic and permanently leave the commonwealth.

Isn't there supposed to be elections in the UK for the House of Commons next year? I don't know their election cycles, but it's interesting that both the USA and the UK are having major elections in 2024. No peace in election years.
The House of Lords is not a publicly voted for chamber. It consists of those who are aristocracy or past members of a previous government or people who are granted a peerage (just as David Cameron has recently)The members of the House of Commons (which includes the party who gets the most votes being asked to form the Government), is elected by the public. The remaining parties are the opposition. The Monarch (King Charles will go to the House of Lords to open a new session of Parliament) but is not allowed in the Commons as he is supposed to remain above politics. The Monarch is represented in the Commons by the Mace (the gold object) which is placed in front of The Speaker's Chair to show Parliament is in Session. The Monarch is the person who asks the leader and winner of elections to form a government on their behalf and be Prime Minister. Yes, I know it's complicated - it's history. But then again, I get confused with American elections, and thar different states have different procedures.

@@Gwenpool_Rocks hi there. They've been threatening to cull the House of Lords for years, but Labour and Tories keep stuffing the chamber with their bezzie mates. Most organisations have a retirement date so IMHO it should be 70 or 80 at the latest, and they should be appraised every 5 years on attendance and contributions to debates as I understand some just turn up, get their 300 pounds, and then leave that day. Wish I had had that when I worked. BYW I'm Scottish, I just like history and all that flummery, and am amazed that other countries like it also, particularly Americans who threw some tea in the water and decided they didn't want a king. Oh, well maybe they get the best of both worlds but then again it depends on whose President.
@@MargNeilson Thank you!! As an American, it is quite confusing! I'm sure the political systems of most countries are a muddle for the rest of the world! Are there no limits to the number of members in each House in Parliament? At least the numbers are limited in our Senate and House of Representatives, but what they are supposedly supposed to do and be responsible for seems to be a bit fluid and deliberately confusing! I think most politicians happily make the entire process more complex/confusing so the population can't determine who is responsible for the horrible decisions they make!
@@xo2quilt The House of Commons number of members is limited to 650. The House of Lords currently has 783 members although usually only an average of 408 attend on a regular basis. In 1999, they tried to limit the number to 600 - but Prime Ministers on leaving their position can put forward a list of people they would like to have a peerage, so now there are more members of the Upper House (Lords) than the Commons. The Lords are unpaid apart from the daily allowance and currenly there is no limit. They act as a check on the legislation proposals coming from the Commons, so they debate issues, make suggestions re amendments but ultimately they cannot overrule the Commons. There are people who want the H of L to also be an elected House but in some ways that mighr be unwise. BtW I am not an expert on the political system in the British Parliament.
