When Scripture confronts sin in our lives, we should allow God’s Spirit to convict us, humble us, and redirect our lives into His will. The problem is when the Word of God is merely in our head but doesn’t reach our heart. That happens when we merely read the Bible but don’t allow the Bible to read us. When we do not ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate the Word of God, when we do not meditate on God’s Word, or desire to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and hearts, reading the Word will be like reading the newspaper, with no lasting impact. How sad. If we want to grow spiritually, we must be open to the Bible’s impact and the Holy Spirit’s convicting and restorative power. Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.
