There's something about seeing the houses of artists who have books and strange fanciful objects, that makes me feel an enormous sense of wellbeing. It's like these are the houses that people actually want to live in, not the sterile luxury apartments in magazines. At least, that's how I feel about it all.

Stephin's is an amusement hall almost like Picasso's full of works in progress or done, each pieces of Art, magnitudes but not for sale just for his amusement and playing with, much like Merritt's here

I love the cosiness of the house. Filled with all the things he loves and has collected over the years . You can almost see how comfortable and content he is in his own little world and surrounding environment . That's what I hope my house will be like one day, personalised and cosy.

Finally got to meet Stephin and we had about a 5 minute conversation that was really tremendous !
Usually I get a bit anxious with so much clutter, but that house seems like organized, fun madness. Very playful!

If you asked me what Stephen Merritt’s house would look like based on Magnetic Fields music, I would imagine a lot of austere, concrete industrial minimalism. This is not what I imagined what his house looks but I am delighted that it is! I love it! It’s Pee-Wee’s playhouse from the depression! lol

What an amazing house. Just having your stuff around you is wonderful, I get where he’s coming from. For me it’s eclectic maximalism all the way. I hate the thought of creating a home to have visitors in it. My stuff is around me and doesn’t disappear when a visitor arrives. Most people find it cosy but couldn’t live with it😂😂
