    Welcome to the registered Angus side of the business! Awesome to see someone just starting into it!

    You will need scales to gather weight info if you plan on registering angus. Also you could select your best cows and turn them into recips by adding ET to your breeding program.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Those certainly were some chill heifer’s. The Arrow-quip certainly looks to be a great addition to the farm. Wishing you and your family the best.

    Hey Ryan, Shute looks good. My buddy hauls a lot of cattle with his trailer he got those rubber mats that you use in the barn under the cows. He than cut them down to fit in his trailer and used a grinding wheel to scuff them up so the cows got traction on them. Little easier on them if they fall and still easy to clean out. Just a idea thanks for the video.

    I remember back in the 80s, grandfather raised registered polled hereford and black Angus.... He had this HUUUUGE trophy case taller and much wider than me.... It took up a whole wall.
    It was full of trophies from his cattle shows.... Miss those days😢

    Adding scales to you shoot in the future would be an invaluable tool for measuring herd health and growth. Also nice to know your sale weights before shipping.

    • @rtz549
      @rtz549 ปีที่แล้ว

      About how much do those scales
      Go for?

  • @Rcod2013
    @Rcod2013 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi from oz Ryan. Load cells on that schute will be brilliant. You can weigh then dose them to true weight. On family farm we had dedicated weigh box before schute and could dose to weight with dosing gun that had quick change dose system. We were saving 10 to 15% one the chemicals used for the mob. Remember that load cells will need to be secured to concrete base and schute must be free standing or will not be accurate. A race able to hold 3 or 4 cows before schute makes loading everything easier as they follow each other till race is full.

      There's only a $3K price difference that I noticed in the models I was comparing and the features make it worth it if you're running enough cattle through them. The cattle almost don't mind walking through it compared to other chutes we've used.

    Hey Ryan!! Hey Hannah!!! Couple nice looking girls you picked up. I wonder why they didn't make the top bar U-shaped too on the neck clamp?

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Doc! My guess is that a U bend wouldn't be as effective at holding them in place. The top bar is more to push them down. Making it similar to the bottom would take away more working space.

    Wish ya luck. Tried going Registered myself and it made no noticeable difference on sale day. Maybe Wisconsin is different, but unless you're a known name in the business for 20+ years, nobody seems to care. Ride that TH-cam clout and see I guess

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how you market them. They're more intended as breeding stock if you pass on their registration. The way I see it, can't hurt to have it and can definitely help.

    Ryan, I don't mean to sound stupid, but I never understood why you would register a beef heard, maybe the brude cows but not the steers, to my way of thinking, you are selling the steers to the packing house for beef, or hamburger meat, I know that is an over simulation of it but I'm not gonna set here and type out a whole lot of words to explain my position. I hope you understand the deeper meaning of my question??? Love your channel and say "Hi" to Hannah.....

    • @karlrovey
      @karlrovey ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can sell them for more money.

    • @brittblanton8342
      @brittblanton8342 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And you can sell your heifers and bulls as breeding stock to other producers and they have better genes than the average beef cattle

      Some shows require proof for steers to be shown as Registered or Purebred, if you are in that aspect of cattle.

Ive had beef from herefords, simetal, dexter, various dairy breeds much better flavorful steaks and burger.... the only reason the industry pushes Angus is becuase of their rapid conversion of feed to weight gain ratio... If I could choose I avoid the tasteless Angus breed
