    A question on your example of finding the area of the shaded circle: Why didn't you multiply 2500 by pi, multiply 1296 by pi, and take the difference of the two for the answer? Instead, you did 2500 minus 1296, then the difference of 1204 you multiplied by pi. Of course, my process made it more tedious, though.

    Hello , Sir!
    Sorry to bother again, so I took the PICAT not too long ago and got a 93 , thr arithmetic reasoning was not at all hard I read the question and knew what to ( same type of problems as you have us do) .
    For math I struggled a bit more specifically on factoring polynomials knowing wether to perform distribution or not . I’ve watched your videos regarding those topics but I just can’t grasp it. I’ve solely been doing those types of problems before I have to take thr verification test in a couple weeks. What would you recommend I do ?
    I also did all your predictor tests started from thr bottom as you told me to , on #8 I got a 70-90 range but I am working on test #2 (still have to do #1 as well) and I’m finding myself struggling on it !!

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you got a 93 on the PiCAT and are getting in the 70 to 90 range on my website, you should be fine on test day. So, I think you may be overthinking things.
      When factoring, you never distribute. In fact, factoring is doing the very opposite of the distributive property.
      The reason factoring gets hard is because you have to have to look at a problem and identify what factoring technique you'll use for it it. If you look below, you'll see that I discuss 6 different factoring techniques that apply to different scenarios.
      The only time you really need to use the distributive property is when you are multiplying, not factoring, polynomials. For example:
      (5x + 2)(4x + 1)
      5x(5x + 2 + 4y)
      As for polynomials, there are only four things you need to know how to do:
      1. Factor them.
      Quadratic Formula: th-cam.com/video/dpbB5EM-zZw/w-d-xo.html
      Factoring Quadratic Trinomials: th-cam.com/video/zd29_LktKRY/w-d-xo.html

    hello grammar hero, why don't you half the radiuses? if it was a diameter then its complete, but if its a radius then the numbers get halved like your first and second question, right?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  ปีที่แล้ว

      For the ASVAB, you need to understand this about circles:
      d = 2r
      A = pi x r^2
      C = 2 x pi x r or C = pi x d
      Accordingly, to find the area, you square the radius, and if you're given the diameter, you half the diameter.

    Hi grammer hero! In question #2 how did the equation go from two pi’s(3.14) to one, after subtracting the squares? It’s a nice short cut but I thought we would’ve had to times each square to their pi before subtracting? Thank you!

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't use a shortcut in that problem. Instead, you have to know your order of operations (PEMAS) to simplify the problem in the correct order.
      The order of operations says to do Parenthesis first, Exponents next, Multiplication and Division, and finally Addition and Subtraction (PEMDAS).
      So, let's look at our problem.
      pi x (50)^2 - pi x (36)^2

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ginisemoniz4528 I did (1/2)(4) first because that is very easy to work out mentally: 1/2 x 4 = 2.
      So, (1/2)(9)(4) becomes (2)(9) = 18

  • @Monk9176
    @Monk9176 ปีที่แล้ว

    In problem 4, why didn’t you multiply the numbers (9 & 4) together then multiply the fraction?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you multiply things together, it doesn't matter the order in which you do the math:
      2 x 3 x 4 = 24
      3 x 2 x 4 = 24
      4 x 2 x 3 = 24
      In question four, I did the math that way to make it easier to do mentally!

      @Stephen Shimkus It happens. You really have know how to find circumference and area of circles to do well on the test, so I'd work on memorizing them.
      Area = pi times r^2
      Circumference (two formulas):
      1. pi times diameter
      or
      2. pi times 2r.
      The diameter is always double the radius (i.e., d = 2r).
