I watched the trip to the airport, and noted that the kids were not comfortable speaking Kiswahili in the van full of people. I felt probably if Baba Jimmy had spoken to them in English there they'd not have felt shy. It happens to kids naturally, they speak in their local dialect when alone with family, but as soon as they step out, the language switches.
