The main difference between Muay Thai and Muay Boran is that Muay Thai has been refined into martial art. While Muay Boran is primarily a killing art due to being developed as an unarmed military CQC, it is essentially Krav Maga long before Krav Maga. Some Muay Boran's techniques such as a flying knee to the temple or an elbow hammer onto the top of the head could be a good example of how lethal it once was. Sagat from Street Fighter is definitely a knee specialist because of his Tiger Knee. An average Muay Khao user wouldn't ever thinking of jumping knee someone unless they're totally sure it'll hit, let alone use it against an opponent as decent as they are. But Sagat just do it like it's nothing. Adon, also from Street Fighter, is an elbow specialist because of his use of a series of elbow uppercuts in one of his super. Elbow Uppercut is very damaging but also very risky. Think of uppercut but with half of the range. To use that kind of attack means either he's very good or he's very cocky, maybe both. Adon is also a knee user due to being Sagat's student.
Knees and elbows are game changers. An elbow is essentially a super short ranged uppercut or hook that also "parries" upper limb attacks. It isn't done out of etiquette in sparring but you can auto parry punches by throwing out elbows into the air. The arm position elbows end in is a defacto guard too. Knees also defacto "block" punches when you lean back. A knee also intercepts kicks and advanced dudes can use a knee to preemptively block a kick. I'm not even close to doing that since it's not in my style, I prefer that weird cross leg check where you use the recoil from a roundhouse to chamber a sidekick.
I wished I still have contact to my old MMA/Muay Thai trainer to bring him for a podcast, he was a beast of a fighter and could tell a lots of interessting stories all around Thailand and Muay Thai. Miss that time in the Dojo. Oh yeah and I think Sagat still one of the most iconic fighters for representing Muay Thai ^^
I always liked the contrasting fighting styles of Irvin vs Bryan fury, and it's one of the reasons I wish they'd bring back Bruce. Bruce's Muay Boran influence was clear, and it would be dope to have him alongside Fahk and Bryan; Fakh could easily fall into one of the styles you mentioned with accentuation to make him distinct. Besides, in comparison, we have how many Mishima arts in the game that are similar yet different between Heihachi, Kazuya, and Reina? It could work, IMHO.
From my research with Bryan, his influence is more heavy on Dutch and American kickboxing. It's still odd the devs originally used Bryan to replace Bruce as the muya Thai guy back then.
@ play the character, Bryan has NOTHING Muay Thai ish, he’s just a brawler. Just like Paul Phoenix is listed as “Judo” and he clearly uses Kenpo, nothing Paul does is Judo, just like nothing Bryan does is remotely Muay Thai.
Paul does have small elements of judo in him in certain moves, a large portion of his throws are judo based. Tekken team never can decide if they want to commit to him being one or not, so he's just a hybrid mixed martial artists now.
Well when it comes to the knee specialist thats adon and the Puncher specialist is Reiko also i believe that Jaqui Briggs is the Muay Thai fighter in MK combining the ten styles
Can we all agree we need a fighting game where we get to create our fighting style based off of moves from pre-existing styles. I'm talking Absolver on CRACK with Sifu's graphics engine would be nice. A combo system like Xenoverse 2 to make it easier to play and lower spam that Absolver was known for. Area damage so you can't block forever and at the beginning of each round you have wraps where you took a lot of damage last round, like Bushido Blade. The styles I'd like to see would be Judo and Karate Throws and standing fighting, Mauy Thai, Jeet-Kun Do, Boxing, Taekwondo and Caparera.
I would love for another dev to take a shot at the absolver formula. It's so rare to have games like that, especially with the option of having the world be online interacting with other people or offline.
@Blackmore2323 online was fun till people thought you were a scrub and jumped you lol. It would've been a great game if it just had more, and that's a heavy MORE
I found out about Muay Thai from Sagat and Joe Higashi when I was a kid and I always gravitate to it in any fighting game. My SF main always been Adon if he’s available, Tekken is Bruce, VF is Brad, KOF Joe and King.
Hi me again your new subscriber came here to see if you're going to name drop my other martial arts that I am a practitioner of I combine the brutality of mauy boran with the knee specialisation of mauy Khao an elbow specialisation of mauy sok and Maui mat for a complete well-rounded finish and a subjectively complete mauy fighting style
After watching this video, I wonder what kind of Muay Thai style Shura does 🤔 Shura is a muay thai fighter from the World Heroes series His gameplay is more about attacking and then retreating with a back dash My guess is that his style is a mix of Femur, Chaiya and Mat Unlike other muay thai characters like Sagat, Joe Higashi and King, Shura's muay thai is not as flashy or stylish In fact, there is a running gag where Shura is "the plain one" of the World Heroes cast 😆 Like most of the characters from World Heroes, Shura is based on real-life historical person, in Shura's case, he is based on Nai Khanom Tom
What style do you think Sagat represents? I think he leans closer to the Tae, Khao, and Korat styles due to his many kicks and knees and his preference for power and ranged attacks.
I’ve known Muay Thai since Ong Bak. Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention to Bruce Irvin until I learned about his fighting style.
The original muay Thai character in tekken and first black character too.✌️🙏

This is one of the best styles out there. Modern fighters add it to their arsenal in MMA fights.
The martial arts inspirations in fighting games is always fascinating. Thanks for another vid.

muay thai sure is an interesting fighting styles especially from thailand
Well when Muay Thai first showed up in action movies, it was the martial art of the bad guys or the hero’s opponent.
Especially Jean Claude's kickboxer.
Rodtang and Liam Harrison would have been better real life Muay mat examples than Jeff Chan

I been doing Muay Thai for 17 years and I still don’t see any Muay Thai in Bryan Fury’s style 😂
From my research with Bryan, his influence is more heavy on Dutch and American kickboxing. It's still odd the devs originally used Bryan to replace Bruce as the muya Thai guy back then.

@ Paul only has a hip toss from Judo, that’s it. He’s 95% a striker, not a grappler by any means.
Well when it comes to the knee specialist thats adon and the Puncher specialist is Reiko also i believe that Jaqui Briggs is the Muay Thai fighter in MK combining the ten styles
BTW how about the name: Fighting style variants
That doesn't sound bad at all 🤔.
Fahkumram is also a punch specialist from what they said about him and his unblockable power moves
@garretwoeller7669 so that will put him on the heavy hitter class
And Joe Higashi is the elbow master
Sagat, Brad Burns, Joe H, Adon
I don't know why YT recommended this video to me but I'm not complaining
It's always good to learn something new every day 😄👍
Thanks for the video

4:45 this literary sounds like Adon from Street Fighter
Adon from Streetfighter. That is all
I remember the 1st time being exposed to Muay Thai. It was the infamous fight with Rick Rufus.
Brad burnz is definitely my favorite Muay Thai fighter.
Namco is really pissing me off with how they've been treating Bruce and the lack of Muay Thai at launch lately. Same with Capcom and no Sagat in SF6.

Bring Bruce back please

Elbow specialist would be Anarchy Reigns Leo
@@Coyoda definitely both Leo and max(he'll have muay khao too).
There's more Muay where that came from! 🤣
whats the intro music?

I definitely would say a combination of Korat, Tae, and maybe Chaiya with how defensive he can play out fights when fighters approach him too.
@ Makes sense. He does like to play keep away a lot.
