It's typical of the Hoplomacus indeed ! And kinda hard to reproduce ! ;) So very few try to represent it, and we are kinda good on this version but still experimenting about what could be the best way to built it for it's purpose with a spear and a dagger !
@@Carancerth hoplomacus? I hope that’s suppose to be a different shield from the standard Greek hoplite shield Because they were way bigger I understand But apart from that I love what your doing!!! Very rare to find ppl actually fighting with big shields properly
@@silver_tongue9644 Yes no worries we know the difference beetwen the hoplon, and the hoplomacus Parma, we do have both, but not for the same use ;) Glad you enjoy !! =D

One of these fighters is called HOPLOMACHUS. But I thought a hoplomachus has a SPEAR. And a small shield and DAGGER. I know the other is a THRAEX. Good combat though

Hey Chris, Thanks for the awesome video. I think this could be a large mainstream sports if you guys could wear special tech suits that a) prevent any cuts or serious injuries and b) calculates the impact of the blow enacted on the suit. That way, you guys could set a “health” of 100 on each suit, and when that health gets 0 you lose. I’ve seen a vid where some people where trying it with medieval weapons, it would be amazing to see non-lethal gladiatorial matches. Also - was stabbing with a weapon banned in historical matches? If so, do you know where I could find any sources about them?
Hello & thank you ! Well so far we prevent cuts by simply having no sharp blades and we are good ;) Point is : you bring competion Gladitor fight was NOT about competition And this is why it shall also not be seen as such, to be close to historical reality so stabbing was prohibited in the sens that : if you kill your partner : you are sentenced to die on the spot. And also nothing in the historical representation show any stabing at all !
Not necessarily. They're not thrusting into each other from the looks of it, and the knives are dull. The only thing that would be of concern is the shields, all it takes is a small slip up and someone could dislocate a finger. But still, there's nothing that dangerous about this.
COOL, but looks too much hysteric. You should try to simulate a little bit more realism, like some wound, some study time. Modern boxers dont just punch each other without stop ;)
This is a real engaged fight, not a choreography. Perhaps it look hysterical because of the speed, but speed come after a proper training. Fake wounds won't had to our work TBH. And we are coached by professional coatches too =D
I been boxing for 4 years and I would like to try this but I don't think there's any school where I live, good video.

Здравствуйте!
Почему гопломах без копья? И разве гопломах не выступает против мурмиллона?
Hello, the hoplomacus could also face another parmati : the Thraex.
In this case we can see that he do not have a spear ;)

The dagger as "secondary" weapon is only when he faces a Murmillo ;)

Wood !
Little planks, all glued over a mold, bend, and cut in order to follow the half-spheric shape ;)

This is supposed to be somewhat historical, and adding modernizations to it would ruin the point. Also, it would cost way too much money.
@@yoursexualizedgrandparents6929 The way we practice is actually the best way to do it RN ;)

Is this a choreographed reenactment or an actual fight?
Actual fight, like a boxe sparring: we are training buddies, but we also fight together with proper technics & intentions ;)
Sparring match
Steel weapons and no shirts. Sounds dangerous.
And much less problem than in SCA / bohurt / Longsword competition
;)
Perhaps the key is in the training and the intentions =D

Thracian vs Greek. Not much difference
We are not anymore with ethnic gladiators, but yeah the Parmatii family ;)
There is little differences that could be very appreciate too ;)
