Cool stuff - Nikon's DX mode applies a 1.5X Crop not a 1.3X - just for your knowledge. It is true that the resolution (for video) is the same in DX mode as it is in FX mode since 4k is equivalent to approx. 8MP and the Z6II is a 24MP sensor which is approx. 10.5MP in DX so it still has the full 8MP of resolution available for full 4k video. In stills this is a very different matter as the resolution drops from 24MP to 10.5MP.
Thanks man! I have a couple other Z6ii vids out there to check out as well! Anything you’d like to see a video of? Can’t promise I’d make it but always looking for ideas or questions that haven’t been answered.
Nice video man. Would you please tell me how to enable the beeping or the light on front to make a sound or turn on when video recording is on and off? This is SUPER FRUSTRATING to not know via just the camera indications. Is there a way? Thank you.
On the Z6ii? Unfortunately there is no tally lamp on the front to help monitor recording status. If you're self filming, consider using the snapbridge app as a monitor. You can easily tell via the app when something is being recorded. Hope that helps! Z
This was such a helpful video! I'm in a pickle trying to decide between the lumix s5 and z6ii. The flip screen was definitely one thing that was stopping me. So helpful! Thanks for sharing.
Hi, I just spent 10 days with both cameras Lumix S5II and Nikon Z6II. 1st off both are great cameras and it was a very difficult choice! Brutal in fact, the Lumix with its matching affordable primes (one filter to rule them all) and its crazy IBIS! , but for me I went with the Nikon because I wanted also Great photos and that is were the lumix failed. If I did mostly video and cared less for photos, (ie non serious or pro work) I would have gotten the Lumix. In my situation I uses the Z6 as Broll, great slow mo, Ibis on the gimbal etc.. while my Acam is locked down on tripod.
Hello, is the Z6 II quality of 4k 60p video somehow little bit worse and will the difference be visible on the 4k TV compared to 4k 30p recorded video? For example sharpness and details?
I doubt anyone would notice the difference but yes in my experience the 4k60 isn't quite as crispy as the 24p or 30p settings. It still looks great though so I wouldn't get too hung up on it.
Love your hacks! We'd love to add your video to our Z creators playlist. Please let us know if we have permission to include your video in the playlist on our channel.
Thanks for the Video.... Switching from DX and FX mode (Select image area) is only possible if you have a full frame lens mounted to your Z6 II. Is that correct?
Great hacks! Got a question for you, so in video mode, how to keep the display monitor from dimming and turning off period, and during a recording? I've tried everything I can think of and it keeps doing this. I also tried the monitor modes and it keeps turning off on me? Thanks for any help you can provide.
@@ZacharyEldridge Both! I have two z6II, with the same settings, and one of them keeps turning off the display monitor after 30 seconds, I can't figure it out! :(
In my experience there's only a small amount of delay between my camera and snapbridge and its very usable as a monitoring solution when filming yourself. If only Nikon would get with the folks from DJI to make a new app though... the transmission from drone to screen is quite impressive!
I tried the fx dx function, but mine does not give me the two choices on the LCD. I can change the fx to dx via i menu. I did get the two options to show on the LCD, but once I switch to FX it will not go back or change back to DX, it seems to not be able to use this setting in certain resolutions.
@@ZacharyEldridge I have tried it in several difference resolutions, and it does appear in one, but if I chose FX it will not go back to DX. I tried changing to 4k60 and the option to switch modes does not come up on the LCD. I feel there has to be another setting which affects this option.
@@ZacharyEldridge The option to change from FX to DX does come up on the LCD if i choose DX in the menu, but if i do press joy stick and choose FX the DX goes away and only choice of FX.
Great tips, thanks. For the phone, I'm pretty sure you need a newer phone. My iPhone 8 Plus was unable to pair with my Nikon D850 - Nikon support couldn't figure it out. Now it's unable to pair with my new Z6 II. So thankfully I had already bought a Lilliput A7S that works just fine. Even better than it worked with my D850. So I'm good for now. Cheers.
An 8 Plus is definitely going to feel it’s age at this point! I’ve got a 13 pro and have no issues connecting to any of my cameras. Might be time for an upgrade!
@@ZacharyEldridge I don't disagree. But I'm doing fine with my 8 Plus and ny 7" Lilliput works better for me than a 5" iPhone. Right now I don't see enough value in upgrading to spend that kind of money. Instead of buying an iPhone 13 pro or 14 pro I could just buy a vlogging camera + a couple/few lenses for that $1400. One day I might upgrade but I'm in no hurry.
@@ZacharyEldridge yes. I agree. It sounds fantastic and the *only* reason I bought a Z6II instead of a Z30 is that the Z30 doesn't support N-log or other Log formats. But maybe it doesn't need it. I'll check it out some more, especially if I can find people using it for video or films.
Hi, thanks for the tips. I've got a question for you.I am just messing around with my new Z6ii and I don’t understand why it doesn’t display info time remaining for video on sd card(I don’t mean that 29:59 min limit countdown)…Am I missing something? Is it somewhere in settings? Thanx
I really liked the phone one - going to get that app now :) Thanks for the video!
I 2nd this! I just got the Ninja this week and setting up my rig for my Z6ii and found this video! Thanks!

Z6ii doesn’t do 10 bit video.. other than that its great..
tx for this zachary - 1st option is d one i was looking for - recent low light dance videography was a disaster for me . wish i had known this :)
Have you got a link for that hot shoe mount?
Loved the tips!
Unfortunately no. I think it came with one of my small lights. Perhaps the Pixel G1S
@Zachary Eldridge Found something similar: "hotshot mount adapter!" Definitely getting that.
thank you for explaining it

I can't say I've tried using a dx lens on Z6ii before but that makes sense because the camera would automatically crop in when a dx lens is attached.

Can I do this with Nikon Z6?
I believe Nikon z6 will work mostly the same, but does not have 4k60p as an option if I remember correctly.

I've tested for both 1080p and 4k and have the option available. Are you at a FPS higher than 30? The z6ii only does 4k60p in DX mode.
Also worth mentioning, you have to press the button in without moving the stick in any direction or the menu won't pop up.
