  • That is the burning question how much does it cost to live in China and the answer might shock you. This video covers most of the costs from seeing a doctor, renting an apartment to food and beer. It is shot in a wet market so the background is all fresh vegetables, fruits and meats.

Living in NYC allows me to grocery shop once a week. I can’t imagine living in the rural area, shopping once a month like some videos I have seen.
We are better off than most who need to rent shelter. It’s ridiculously expensive now!
Oh, our biggest monthly expense is medical & dental insurances and copays. I am so disheartened by the corporatization of America. Making healthcare as a business. What has happened to this country? Greed, greed, greed.

Also, the cost of electricity is ridiculously low in China. I see shiny, new E-bikes for sale starting at $400 USD and up. The monthly fees for a condo are almost nothing, and there is no annual property tax (yet). Our cell phone bill is $3 a month each, including internet. Nanning is truly an inexpensive place to live!

You know what? Those McDonalds and KFC's are no longer cheap these days. All over Asia they are expensive, more expensive than any other restaurants or coffee shops.
It's become a luxury to eat fast food.
But we just simple ignore them and take other options. It isn't that you can't fill your stomach without fast foods. It's also very unhealthy foods.

@ 6:32 , Transportation is where you can save big. Public transportation is exceptionally affordable, efficient , and availability is into the late evening. No need for upkeep of a car: fuel, insurance , maintenance, and parking. Manning’s subway is expanding. High speed rail connection will be even more extensive. As Nanning develops, you will see a major airport added.

I will be moving to China after I retire in Canada in a few years. The basic cost of living is very high in Canada, I can't afford to eat restaurant foods anymore. Some provinces have sales taxes totalling over 10% on top of the price, then at the end of the year have to pay income tax on the sales taxes which had been paid during the entire year, yes, have to pay tax on taxes! It's the average working class people get to pay the most taxes because rich people and corporations have ways to avoid paying taxes.

American dollars will be 25% less than that. so $15 a day for food (eating out, not cooking at home), $7.50 for rent. or $690 a month for necessities (room and board). average Social Security check in the US is around $1,800...

My friends take me to the wet markets while visiting China. The meat I will let them decide what to buy. The only thing I ever want to buy is the fruit. Just like in the US, you need to wash fruits and vegetables. There are plenty of markets, street markets, small, medium and large markets in which to buy your food. I usually eat out but rarely go to western style restaurants. My last trip we ate a lot of sushi. In Guangdong Province near Hong Kong, seafood is everywhere.

If you have a serious medical problem, leave China. You don't want to be in China with a serious illness. The Chinese themselves assessed their system over a 5-year period and found that Chinese hospitals had inconsistent performance. Look it up, the study was conducted by The Chinese Medical Board. Peking University Institutional Review Board (IRB) PubMed Central (PMC) If you can't get back to your home country, the Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, has a very good reputation internationally. The British Health System, (NHS) allowed its patients to fly to Bumrungrad Hospital for treatments in some things to save the NHS money. That says a lot about a hospital.

The living costs there are higher but not for the essentials (food, water, electricity and transport). The rent is absolutely higher, there's also more expensive/ luxurious shopping options for the non-essentials (clothes, bags, etc).
Interestingly, the price of food can actually be lower in Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou (There largest cities in China) than some tier 2 or 3 cities. Because large cities and population centers need to import enormous amout of fresh food items, which drives down the cost.

@@heimuk1:55 The store on the left has a LED board that writes 羊肉 and 狗肉. I don’t think it’s a big deal. it’s just some western viewers tend not to understand that there are animals that are raised as pet and animals of the same species raised for meat throughout this human society which will never treat non-human species equally. It hasn’t been that long since people who lived in cities in the west lost the variety of their diet and almost only consume food that are mass produced. Younger generations in cities of China seldom eat less common foods just like them but Nanning isn’t one of the most modernized cities yet. It's in fact pretty sad to not even know of their traditional food. It is very possible that fewer and fewer people are going to opt for these food as I never ate them myself, but without compelling reasons not to, food culture should be preserved just like how they argue for any other traditional culture, so people always have the choice when they want to relate to their ancestors. South Koreans used to consume way more dog meat per person and they have been made to eradicate the entire dog meat industry to please the west towards the Seoul Olympics. Now South Korean restaurants that serve dog meat have to operate under the cover of 滋补汤 ironically.
